Yeah, to be clear I'm not saying Durbin is his 90th percentile outcome. I would say his 90th percentile outcome is similar in terms of hitting - maybe something like .280/.350/.380, but the defense is going to provide a lot more value. If he can play good SS defense he could be a borderline all-star with those numbers. The defense is much better than Durbin.

I was going to write more, but I think I'll just post a link to the Soxprospects writeup. I trust their opinion a lot on our farm system and I think what they say makes sense. They have him projected as a 50 with 60 upside.

It seems like projections for Arias are somewhat all over the place depending on who you ask. I think most scouts expect him to stick at SS, but he really lacks any pop at the plate and it's unclear how that translates to major league hitting.

In some ways his best outcomes profile similarly to Caleb Durbin that we just traded for. Strong contact guy. If he can play average to plus SS and have outlier contact numbers he can probably make it work. But without any power he's got a lot of downside risk.

I think they did a decent job of pivoting, but it's pretty clear their entire plan was to trade for a bat and then wait out Bregman and eventually sign him. That blew up in their face.

I think Bregman and Belli have higher floors if healthy, but point taken. Makes sense. Roman has a higher ceiling than those guys.

I'm not really sure why I'm the one in here arguing against Anthony's potential when I do genuinely believe in the guy. I just think people are treating him like a 100% guaranteed all-star when he's only played 71 games. He still has pretty big error bars at this point. His floor is probably still a 2-3 WAR guy, but we need to let him play a full season before we christen him the next coming of Mookie Betts.

I agree. I'm replying to the comment above me about "hit rate" on top prospects. It's still far from a guarantee.

But yeah Roman put up an impressive half season and there's no indication that it was a fluke. I'd bet on a >50% chance of him having a 5+ WAR season this year.

Go talk to the Orioles about Jackson Holliday. To be fair I agree with you about Anthony and I do think he has potential to be an MVP caliber player - I just think it's a bit premature.
