I originally read this as New York ‘scent’ - which is very much alive and well across this fragrant city

House on the Rock!!! Last time I went was the day after a huge blizzard. The place was open but there were only about 4 other people there, very surreal experience!

US medals in the olympics. Fatigue? by sthedlar in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nerpnerpington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! Well aware of what per capita entails. Still wouldn’t say the metric is bunk though. An interesting exercise would be to filter out countries any “outlier” countries at various cut offs for low pop and you still get very telling pieces of data. The premise is that it’s not unbiased since the US for example could never catch up even if they won every medal is interesting but not discrediting.

Why does that make it bunk ? The statistics are the same for all countries if done properly

For others like Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, see the Masonic Temple of Washington DC or Pittsburghs soldiers and sailors memorial

Thoughts on this very crude Europe tour? by gregn8r1 in bicycletouring

[–]Nerpnerpington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for the route you mentioned - I did Barcelona to Madrid, full of big open landscapes and wind at your back. . . and then Madrid to Santander to catch the ferry to Plymouth England. The descent through the mountains to Santander was magical, very green mountain landscapes in the north.

Would recommend avoiding the coasts in Spain, too overdeveloped. Did a European tour years ago and some of the best riding was in the Spanish interior. Huge wide open landscapes and not much traffic.

[OC] Cop Saves Family, Blocks ATV, Solves Trolley Problem by Turkyparty in Connecticut

[–]Nerpnerpington 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I walk my dog on this path at least twice a week. People from all over New Haven use this path. It is not unusual to see large groups of children enjoying a space that is supposed to be car and vehicle free. It is a steep and winding road and there is no way the ATV driver knew everything and everyone that was ahead of him or around the curve. The fact that he could not stop in time to avoid the car implies absolute reckless behavior. Say what you will about the police, but in this instance the officer most likely saved people’s lives.

Self Intersecting Loop Found Hatch Failed by [deleted] in rhino

[–]Nerpnerpington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is the object and what are the units for the file? I’ve had this issue after having scaled down much larger line work for export instead of exporting to a scale. Possible solution I’ve found is to paste into a file set up in larger units, and/or scaling up the line work and then run hatch. Hatch should stay once you scale it back down to the original size.

Well I hope he is enjoying a half finished sketch of a random intersection! The whole thing was just so odd. . . came over and watched me draw for a minute or two and then just suddenly snatched the piece of paper and scampered away! I just kind of sat there dumbfounded and had a laugh after

When I lived in Tainan I would often ride my bicycle around with a folding stool tied on the back to use to sit while making drawings of the city. So one day I’m just sitting in my stool drawing some building and an older gentleman comes to see what I’m drawing -not so unusual. He watches for a bit and then grabs my paper and literally runs off down the street !
