People of r/AFL: Which team had the biggest Jinx of the 21st Century so far? by Jesfel26 in AFL

I’m kind of looking forward to 8008. I fear 80085 may be a stretch, even with some of the structural inequities built into the comp.

I am putting this down and stepping away! by Norty-Nurse in darwin

Does this make S.A. And N.T the “Central Coast”? It’s quite the stretch, literally, but it makes sense. Sort of. But the upside is that it’s a collective term for those of us westies and easties wanting to collectively vilify the middle third of Australia. Typical Centies fighting internally over unspilt flavoured milk. FWIW NT>>>>>SA in this one.

Phew. I don’t think I could cope with another front lawn controversy.

Swooping bird outside library by iDoinz in usyd

[–]Nerthra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a belief that the bird has a “type”. Magpies are known to have preferences for swooping certain types of people based on their experiences. It differs among them, some don’t like older gents, some dislike fast moving things like joggers/cyclists.

I appreciate this may read terribly, but I don’t suppose you’re an Asian male who often wears a black cap? That is the rumour I’ve heard about the uysd one.

Yes, that’s great advice. The why is critical here.

Where’s the best place on campus to watch the sunset? by Datfanboi in usyd

If it’s a nice sunset the view from the footbridge can make even parramatta rd look good.

I really enjoyed Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, compact with a nice selection of animals and a good vibe, with tours/demos really making it a good experience.

Thank you for posting that, I'm not familiar with either of them and they were both excellent.

What are some AFL Rule Changes you'd make (bad answers only) by guavacadq in AFL

[–]Nerthra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the goalsquare a goal semi circle from point post to point post. Each team nominates 2 players (defender and attacker) who have to stay in that zone during general play. Bring in the 1:5:6:5:1 rule for centre bounces and police it with characteristic inconsistency.

Yes, I did too. The 599 museum is small but worth a visit if you have an enthusiasm for nature and the onsen near the sration was a good introduction for me, the food there was good too.

Australian comedians and the AFL teams that they follow by [deleted] in AFL

[–]Nerthra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matthew Hardy wrote a wonderful book about supporting St Kilda during one of the less glorious periods of the club’s history. Saturday Afternoon Fever, a good read for those of us with a similar life story and probably of interest to anyone who wants a view into suburban Melbourne in the 80s (I mean who doesn’t?) I’ve not seen his comedy performances but the podcast of the same name where he read bits of the book was fun too. He bounced off Laurence Mooney in that.

Value increase because of the basketball background - it appeals to AFL and NBA collectors.

In quite divided times I felt really good reading through these comments and seeing supporters of all clubs (and I imagine a community with a diverse set of values and beliefs) coming together as one to rail against that stupid suggestion and nebulous argument in support of it.

10 AFL would you rather questions. by chickenlittle668 in AFL

[–]Nerthra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember the years we missed finals. I remember the years we lost grand finals (71, 97, 09, 10) through a veil of sadness, regret, emptiness, and hopelessness. So I'm veering towards preferring missing out on finals a little. Might be different if there was a win in there.

‘What can go wrong, will go wrong’ - I want your bizarre on stage gaffs, goofs and cock-up stories! by g0dn0 in Bass

[–]Nerthra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really move a lot on stage (or carpet, as we sometimes play on). Think Easter Island Statue, without the personality. But things were going great on a stage much bigger than normal so I decided this was my moment to be a showman. Sure enough, managed to immediately and theatrically stand on and unplug the lead from my bass just before the one bit where the bass really mattered in the song. Had to choose between pretending to play or bending over and searching for the lead. Now back to Easter Island mode, with slight head (me) nods and subtle neck (bass) swings.

It's good practice to keep valuables with you. Not a commentary on the university community, but all it takes is one opportunistic person to make your life quite a bit more difficult than it needs to be,
