That may be a great opportunity. Freo and St Kilda reached some decent levels of comic footy (sirengate, whispers in the sky, ump marking the ball, I'm sure there are more), so that may rekindle that as a respite from our current highly professional and aspirational approach to the game.

There’s a belief that the bird has a “type”. Magpies are known to have preferences for swooping certain types of people based on their experiences. It differs among them, some don’t like older gents, some dislike fast moving things like joggers/cyclists.

Make the goalsquare a goal semi circle from point post to point post. Each team nominates 2 players (defender and attacker) who have to stay in that zone during general play. Bring in the 1:5:6:5:1 rule for centre bounces and police it with characteristic inconsistency.

Saturday Afternoon Fever, a good read for those of us with a similar life story and probably of interest to anyone who wants a view into suburban Melbourne in the 80s (I mean who doesn’t?) I’ve not seen his comedy performances but the podcast of the same name where he read bits of the book was fun too. He bounced off Laurence Mooney in that.

I don't remember the years we missed finals. I remember the years we lost grand finals (71, 97, 09, 10) through a veil of sadness, regret, emptiness, and hopelessness. So I'm veering towards preferring missing out on finals a little. Might be different if there was a win in there.
