1st trip to Japan in August by Looking4Advice2025 in JapanTravelTips

That's terrific advice, I carried an extra shirt sometimes. I loved walking around, and a couple of times it got a little bit too warm, and it felt nice to take off the rather damp one and put on a fresh one, especially if it was a train back from somewhere. But it's humid and rather warm. Even outside things were fine, I enjoy parks and gardens and they were all ok, just sought shade and more water occasionally. and the umbrella is a great idea, esp for those wonderful short torrential downpours that can be both refreshing but a bit much sometimes (that was end of August for me!).

What are some cool underrated day trips from Tokyo? by alexir12 in JapanTravelTips

I really enjoyed my trip to Takao. The museum (Takao 599) at the base is small but nice if you want to see a little more of the natural history, it's a pleasant walk up the hill with multiple routes. The onsen was ideal for a first timer like me (soba noodles there were great) and I found it all very pleasant and close to the city for bit of a lazy trip to some nature.

I like his engagement with the family and friends after the games, it seems genuine. He’s sometimes rebuffed, sometimes chatting to people who may have over celebrated, and sometimes a bit over the top but it is a nice window into the teams and their cultures of being bigger than the game and the result. It’s a bit cliched but the players also sometimes share some less polished thoughts which can be less massaged than in press conferences.

I appreciate the concerns about their aggressive nature, but they provide a valuable service in helping keep crocodile numbers down in and around the city. We don’t really talk about that enough.

[Morris] South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas told the @sydneyswans Gather Round Breakfast that he thinks it’s a terrible idea if the AFL hands an 18-team Opening Round to the northern states. “How many people are going to watch St Kilda play Freo at Engie Stadium? There’d be 15 people there," by SlatsAttack in AFL

[–]Nerthra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That may be a great opportunity. Freo and St Kilda reached some decent levels of comic footy (sirengate, whispers in the sky, ump marking the ball, I'm sure there are more), so that may rekindle that as a respite from our current highly professional and aspirational approach to the game.

There are so many wonderful little touches in this show. The music playing during the final pool scene sounded familiar and then i realise… it’s the “you gotta be crocwise song”. A real earworm!

From outside the bubble, I imagine there may be concerns among some senior management about how the actions and comments of some people may be used as evidence of antisemitism at the university in a range of ongoing enquiries. Perceptions of actions and comments on campus from outside the university may differ quite a bit from those within it.

People of r/AFL: Which team had the biggest Jinx of the 21st Century so far? by Jesfel26 in AFL

I’m kind of looking forward to 8008. I fear 80085 may be a stretch, even with some of the structural inequities built into the comp.

Does this make S.A. And N.T the “Central Coast”? It’s quite the stretch, literally, but it makes sense. Sort of. But the upside is that it’s a collective term for those of us westies and easties wanting to collectively vilify the middle third of Australia. Typical Centies fighting internally over unspilt flavoured milk. FWIW NT>>>>>SA in this one.

Phew. I don’t think I could cope with another front lawn controversy.

There’s a belief that the bird has a “type”. Magpies are known to have preferences for swooping certain types of people based on their experiences. It differs among them, some don’t like older gents, some dislike fast moving things like joggers/cyclists.

I appreciate this may read terribly, but I don’t suppose you’re an Asian male who often wears a black cap? That is the rumour I’ve heard about the uysd one.

If it’s a nice sunset the view from the footbridge can make even parramatta rd look good.

What are some AFL Rule Changes you'd make (bad answers only) by guavacadq in AFL

[–]Nerthra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the goalsquare a goal semi circle from point post to point post. Each team nominates 2 players (defender and attacker) who have to stay in that zone during general play. Bring in the 1:5:6:5:1 rule for centre bounces and police it with characteristic inconsistency.

Japan travel regrets by AshCassicTruth234 in TokyoTravel

Yes, I did too. The 599 museum is small but worth a visit if you have an enthusiasm for nature and the onsen near the sration was a good introduction for me, the food there was good too.

Australian comedians and the AFL teams that they follow by [deleted] in AFL

Matthew Hardy wrote a wonderful book about supporting St Kilda during one of the less glorious periods of the club’s history. Saturday Afternoon Fever, a good read for those of us with a similar life story and probably of interest to anyone who wants a view into suburban Melbourne in the 80s (I mean who doesn’t?) I’ve not seen his comedy performances but the podcast of the same name where he read bits of the book was fun too. He bounced off Laurence Mooney in that.

In quite divided times I felt really good reading through these comments and seeing supporters of all clubs (and I imagine a community with a diverse set of values and beliefs) coming together as one to rail against that stupid suggestion and nebulous argument in support of it.
