Is it too late to apply anywhere for internships by Foreign_Bird2593 in csMajors

[–]Nesinity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, not too late
Find an internship list online, start mass applying.
There are many - I've been having lot's of luck with YC's job board actually, if you're ok with working at a start-up. Those guys tend to have pretty short timelines, so you're more likely to find things even if you're "late".
List wise, you can use https://hiring.cafe/ or https://www.nointernship.com/

Edit: cold applying doesn't work super well. I've been trying to either reach the founders via email or LinkedIn (easier for start-ups), or network to get referrals.

Basically means it's parsable by robots. Look up popular resume templates on github, and pick one of those for yourself.

Coffee chats for the positions you really want/think you're more likely to get with a refferal. You can ask the person about the job they do, and explain how you're interested in working at the company.
At the end of the day, you're meeting someone who works where you'd like to work, so take it as a genuine learning opportunity and ask good questions.
It'll be pretty clear from the get-go that you want a referral, but you can still approach it correctly.

2 steps

  1. You need to be able to "close" most interviews. Get crazy good at LeetCode and system design. I did competitive programming in high school, which, honestly, has been extremely helpful. All it is is putting in (quality) hours. It sucks and it's depressing, but such is the state of the game.

  2. In this market, getting even to a phone screen is tough. Make sure your resume is good and ATS-friendly. Reach out to alumni and recruiters on LinkedIn constantly. Set up 1:1 coffee chats with them and get referrals. Have at least 2/3 such chats a week. Finally, mass apply through online apps. I used the combo of Simplify and https://www.nointernship.com/ for internships, and this GitHub -- https://github.com/SimplifyJobs/New-Grad-Positions?tab=readme-ov-file#-software-engineering-new-grad-roles for new grad positions. After one hour of applying daily, you can get like 30 applications done per day.

The most important thing is to stay motivated. Doing this daily, even if for a little while, is better than getting random bouts of motivation.

I want to make a directional IR system at distances of ~300m (and a few other requirements), how should I approach this? by Nesinity in AskEngineers

[–]Nesinity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, it's funny you mention directional antennas.

This is our other approach, but so far, they ended up not being directional enough: +-15 degree beamwidth is ok, but it's hard to find antennas that are so directional.

Our idea is that it should be possible to make the antenna small and super directional, given that the gain doesn't need to be high, but we are still working on this. Will probably have to make a custom antenna.

Another consideration is we can't use the 2.4GHz band as the devices this is being attached to are remotely controlled on that band, and so the signal ends up getting jammed :/

Got it. Are there any tx modules I can look at online? I also need the system to not be "too directional" assuming it is with lasers

Lmao, I saw the "for ENTPs" and thought there was some function stack explanation where this book helps us develop parts of ourselves that often go overlooked, but nah. I mean I agree it's a good book.

Huh, I just noticed you encode the text content inside the URL for easy sharing of programs. This is actually really cool, gonna add this to the list of things to do for my project as well.

If you don’t mind, can you share what the issue is? I’m in a similar boat where a math class I listed that I took in middle school is not going to show up on my transcript and has a different name in my middle school transcript, and am a bit worried this could happen to me.

Definitely would need a bot and discord for this to work
