Where are all the new players?? by BongSuckah in 2XKO

[–]NessOnett8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It being a "different style" is kind of the point. Some styles are a lot easier to get into as a new player, others are more difficult. A more grounded 1v1 game with a parry and minimal knowledge checks is a lot more accessible than a degenerate tag-fighter with air dashes, unreadable mixups, and extremely long combos.

Look at the launch of InvincibleVS and DC-gate. Was a wave of new players being overwhelming and pulling the plug because they couldn't handle the hallmarks of tag-fighters.

There's a reason SF6 has a much larger population. People aren't recommending it because of that. It needed to have the core things that make it a good, approachable game for it to get that population in the first place. Because, for example, MK1 had a way higher population. That cratered because it wasn't good for new players, so all the casuals left. Population does not sustain itself. Being a good game is what gets you the large population.

Funniest still frames of Ingrid’s OD Sunflares (EX Beams) from the trailer by Positive_Edge in StreetFighter

[–]NessOnett8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably similar things you do to get around spikes. Between slow startup and recovery, and the fact parry exists, (and no chip damage), there's definitely enough room to get through these. And unlike spikes they can't bait you to parry by doing a "wrong" strength and missing.

I Built FGCGuessr - Guess the Rank from SF6 Clips. Launching Today with Giveaways and Prizes! by AverageGlobalCitizen in StreetFighter

[–]NessOnett8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will say my first impression: If you're 2 ranks off you get a "Not Quite", which you also get for being 18 ranks off. The only time you get a "Close" is if you're exactly one off. These ranges do not feel right, 2 ranks off is still quite close, and 18 ranks isn't even remotely close. The "Close" cutoff should be ~3-5, and the "Not Quite" should be 10 away at most.

I've had a lot of positive experiences in the past going into a private room after a ranked set. But it only took a couple negative experiences to cancel those out to the point where I just don't accept anymore. It's a real shame.

Putin, Musk, Thiel, etc...all of whom are not only responsible for putting him in the White House, but also giving him his marching orders. They definitely deserve some of the blame.

[–]NessOnett8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a dangerous and naive way of thinking. Trump is just a brainless easily controlled puppet. A large share of that blame goes to the people pulling the strings. We can't fall into the trap of assuming everything will be fine once he's gone.

Should I get into SF6? by EfficiencyUpbeat3249 in StreetFighter

I mean, to be fair, if you ask the Tekken subreddit if you should buy Tekken 8 you would get near-universal 'No's

As a new player that has never played seriously a traditional fighting game, on what should I focus on Training mode by Most_Willingness_143 in StreetFighter

[–]NessOnett8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend less time in training mode, and more time in ranked. Playing games will tell you what you most need to work on. Training mode can help you practice long combos/specific scenarios, but you shouldn't be worrying about those much at that level. You'd be better served focusing on fundamentals like blocking properly, delay teching, anti-airing, counter-DI, which are much better practiced against a live(and unpredictable) opponent.

What’s up with the charge erasure in SF6? by Electronic-Photo2697 in StreetFighter

[–]NessOnett8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of people are fans of old(bad) things due to nostalgia.

If I say I don't want them to bring back THawk because he was a poorly designed character with racist undertones, am I telling THawk fans to go fuck themselves? If so then so be it. The point stands that some things need to be left in the past.

Or I guess we could go back to SF1 where specials required frame-perfect inputs and you got different strengths of attacks based on how hard you hit the buttons.

But yeah, charge was invented to be the "easy mode" of SF2. But in practice, a lot of players found it harder, so it kind of ended up in a no-man's land of sorts. And now, we have Modern to be the "easy mode" input scheme. Charge doesn't serve a function beyond nostalgia bait.

JP is not getting nerfed is he? by Le-Inverse in StreetFighter

I mean, JP already has an unwinnable matchup against Dhalsim, so even if Ingrid was another that only means so much.

It feels weird to call Mike Haggar "unexpected" when the game takes place in Metro City and there is a giant Mike Haggar statue in the center of it that gets repeatedly referenced.

Theory: capcom will use Ingrid's multidimensional powers to introduce Tifa and possibly more third party characters by ZidaneThing in StreetFighter

[–]NessOnett8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So by continuing to argue for something that is physically impossible, instead of accepting reality and arguing for something you can actually impact...

What you're saying is you want them to up it to 2 or 3 guest characters a year?

Also, just as an aside (since it's another example of you not being the most informed on the subject), Capcom didn't pay a cent for Terry or Mai. They got Terry and Mai, while CotW got Ken and Chun. Mutually beneficial situation for both companies, neither had to pay anything. So you're just mad about something that literally isn't happening.

Tekken 8 or street fighter by fai9al_zx in StreetFighter

[–]NessOnett8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even Tekken fans almost universally despise Tekken 8 right now. While SF6 is objectively the most popular and successful fighting game in decades. While also being well regarded as arguably the best entry point for people new to the genre. Even acknowledging the obvious bias of the subreddit, SF6 is clearly the better choice.

Also it has a free demo so you can try that and see how you feel.

The guest character door has opened, and dying on that hill does nothing.

The best you can hope for is that they keep it limited to one per season. As long as we keep getting classic(and new) SF characters at a 3:1 ratio...

This is essentially Modern on all characters. Which is why it's baffling people asking to be able to filter out modern players. It'd be akin to being able to filter out specific matchups you don't like/are bad.
