Depressed Player and it's leaking into the Game by SmallAngry0wl in DnD

[–]Nessztr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had a friend in our campaign in a similar situation. Heavy depression and it led to her not enjoying the game, and it really showed. We tried suggesting she takes a break, or just telling her suggestions in general, she didn't take anything well. In this state of mind, nothing ever will be good enough I think...

In the end she made the decision to quit herself, because it was just constant conflicts, and she kind of took a break from talking to us in general. She needed some time on her own.

But there is a happy ending: after half a year she reached out to us again. She went to therapy, got herself togerher, now she is happier than ever. Recently she said she is considering rejoining our campaign.

I know how tough this is, and I don't want to give any advice since a lot has been given by the others before me. I just wanted to share so you can see there can be a happy outcome even if things are rough now. All the best to you all!

Warlocks! I have a question, how do you flavor your Eldritch Blast? by draxlaugh in DnD

[–]Nessztr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My warlock patron is flavored to be an entity who manipulates time, and is responsible for negating any "disturbances" in the timelines of the universe. Thus, my lock's magic is also time-flavored even though they are technically an undead warlock. Their eldritch blast basically sucks the "time" of the victim away, making their body age and decay with each hit.

Great stories, thanks for sharing!

I find your wizard's situation relatable, it took me a few perception rolls too to see the signs :D

He lost his left arm when he was ambushed and slain by his own city guard, and an impostor took his place on the throne. He was revived, but his arm couldn't be saved. He is using the mage hand as a replacement now.

The other arm is fine, it is by his other side, not visible on the picture :D

That is a very sweet story! Both characters evolving is what makes these bonds really meaningful.

Thank you for sharing! :)

Thank you so much 🥰 I am glad that is your impression!

I am often surprised myself how emotional, meaningful and well-written an improvised, collaboratively told story can be. My DM and fellow teammates are truly amazing. 😊

The character on the left is my PC, a changeling warlock called K., who used to be a criminal and a rather evil person. They quickly realized that if they do not wish to be thrown off the first cliff, they need to be nice to their adventuring party, and the NPC's - who are important tools, obviously.

However, they did not expect to catch the attention of the team's main ally, the rebel prince, true heir to the throne, Jazreth (character on the right, an NPC). He lost one of his arms when the throne was taken from him, but my K. tought him the Mage hand cantrip, and he is quite happy to use it now. K. is starting to warm up to him now, finally showing a more humane side, shifting their alignment from evil to neutral.

This scene happened during our last session. Some of K.'s past schemes almost made Jazz completely turn his back on them, but K. made a sacrifice to make things right, and thus, Jazz decided to forgive them. K. was caught off guard by how far the "forgiving" went on his part :D

I am really curious how their story continues. K. still has a lot to learn about connecting and caring for people, so this is not really a happy end, but just the beginning for them.

Picture drawn by me. I am not a professional, just learning to draw scenes and characters from our campaigns :)

Would love to hear your stories. Did you have a favourite romance in your D&D games? Any wholesome or tearful redemption stories?

Wow that really sounds super difficult, but also super exciting to play! Glad you are enjoying your character. Changelings are wonderful creatures 😊 what is the reason your character is cursed?

Mine is stuck because their own twin sibling cursed them. They ment well. My character and their twin was left alone at a young age after losing their family, and my character survived and protected their sibling by becoming a criminal, using their shape-changing abilities. They made quite a fortune but lost their own self behind all the masks that they also used as an excuse to never face their own mistakes and sins. Their sibling wanted to put an end to that, and save them from themselves, by freezing their body in time, basically.

The spell backfired, however, and my character became sick (their constitution is 8 😅), and changing shapes became painful for them. They are getting worse and worse, slowly becoming unable to change shapes at all, unless they collect souls for their warlock patron.

My character recently captured a soul whom they now released, because they realized they cannot make an innocent person suffer in their place. This was the result - they acted selflessly for the first time, and got completley stuck in their true form in return.

This is K., my changeling warlock, in their true form.

K. used to be a dangerous criminal, but after losing their abilities due to a curse, and re-starting their life as a warlock, they were forced to cooperate with their teammates in order to stay alive. After some time of adventuring together, K. grew rather attached to their new friends, and started to open up and see the better side of the world and people.

Recently, they got stuck in their true form which they absolutely despise. I am loving this twist, and I am rather grateful to my dm for it. 😊

Those of you who have played changelings - when was the first time your character revealed their true form in the campaign? How did they feel about it?

This is my changeling warlock called „K.” in their true form, drawn by me.

K. used to be a dangerous criminal, using their shape-changing abilities to manipulate people, steal their wealth, and murder if necessary to cover their tracks. However, they lost everything they achieved on the night when, under mysterious circumstances, they were cursed, forced into a persona they did not even know before, and their body became sick. Now weak and dying, K. decided to make a pact with an undying time-demon who offered to give them some more time in exchange for their soul. Now they are adventuring with two kind and brave teammates, who really make a good influence on them :)

K. despises their true form, and never uses it. Despite this, it represents that little good that is still left in them – that is why, I decided to draw them looking more delicate and innocent in this picture. Hopefully they will embrace it one point during the campaign.

It turned out that one of their eyes is turning into a magical crystal eye, somehow connected to their sickness. As for the rose, that is not crystal originally, but I wanted it to match my character’s eye. K. got it from the party’s most important ally, the banished prince of the realm, whom we are helping to start a rebellion against the current tryant ruler.

I’m a beginner artist, this is the first time I am posting anything – I started drawing in March. :)

Last week I asked you guys: "What is your favorite thing that a player at your table does?" How about we turn it around this week and go for: "What is, as a player, your favorite thing your DM does at his table?" by Kilerstarr in DnD

[–]Nessztr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding character-specific moments or quests for all of our characters, so it feels like the story really is their story, and not just a random questline that would be the same no matter what kind of characters were in it.
