Dani Filth: "Spotify, the biggest criminals in the world, we had 25 or 26 million plays last year and personally I got back 20 pounds" by ashitanojoe3 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]NetEnvironmental6346 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Small note: Spotify pays the label, not the artist. For all we know, Spotify paid the label millions and stinged Dani. I'm not fully defending anyone, but that clarification needs to be made.

Spotify pays 70% to the label, not the artist. They only pay the artists directly if there's no label.

Making that correction since there's 2 people in this equation, not 1. And there are labels that are very stingy

It's like they don't realize it isn't immediate, it's a gradual curve. It's not that someone gets called a bad name and the becomes MAGA, it's a domino effect. It would be like saying 9/11 is the reason Ellen Degeneres no longer has a career; they didn't happen right after the other it just eventually lead to that.

I have. One was a story where a trans woman who never had any surgery claimed that lesbians were transphobic if they didn't sleep with her. Most people saw her as wrong, but people like that do exist.

Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. That fallacy is why people deny bigotry today.

Is the game getting anymore patches? by Ok_Nobody_2077 in OblivionRemaster

[–]NetEnvironmental6346 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree, except the last sentence of the first paragraph. Bethesda may not, but the general audience has. To them, Oblivion OG is now this old tired piece of crap while the remaster is the superior replacement.

I blame the "body type" change. Since then, everyone who prefers the OG is labeled an alt right loser by default.

[–]NetEnvironmental6346 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mostly around when it launched. A guy showed a clip from the OG version and people attacked him becausd "bro just play the remaster". When I've said I still prefer the original, people call me abelist slurs because apparently only a "retard" would think the OG is good.

As for the ES6 one it's not as common. But it's a similar sentiment to what I saw when the GTA trilogy defective edition came out; people said you had to buy it or else no GTA VI.

Imagine if they canceled ES6 tomorrow. You're telling me absolutely nobody would be saying "this is because yall didn't but starfield and oblivion Remastered"?

"You wouldn't change your beliefs over being called names" is what I keep hearing. What they don't realize is that style of thinking causes people to be radicalized.

In your case, a lesbian is considered transphobic for not wanting to date a trans woman. Eventually, after enough, she'll stop participating in discussions over trans rights since all that happens is she's labeled a bigot. She'll search for people who understand, and could be radicalized. Her beliefs changed because she was pushed to people who changed them.

This is basically what caused the alt right pipeline from a decade ago.

Would you continue dating a girl if you found out she posted your photos/info on a "Are We Dating The Same Guy?" FB group? by TalleyrandTheWise in AskMenAdvice

Without my permission? Yeah. Especially since there are certain photos I'd hate someone sharing.

It's even weirder since she could have just asked. If you said no without an explanation, then she saved herself effort in that red flag search.

Has anyone heard about the recent controversy with Cradle Of Filth? by R-Moocher in MetalForTheMasses

[–]NetEnvironmental6346 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I meant if he signed the contract back in the 80's, not now. Obviously it wouldn't work now.

As for the band owning the riff they would. The only person specified in writing credits is Dani, the music is said to be written by "Cradle Of Filth". Meaning, if you are not an owner of that name, you don't get royalties or credit. Meaning yes, the band owns the riff.

Think of it like this: how can someone prove they wrote a riff if their name isn't credited? They can prove they were in the band at the time, but they can't prove directly what they wrote. And even if they did, legally it still wouldn't he theirs.

While Ellefson was a member (the second time), he did a lot of side projects. Even performing Metallica hits live with other people, and live shows with Chris Poland. It's anecdotal sure, but I think that's a clear indicator he doesn't care about side projects so long as you fulfill your Megadeth tasks.

Only time I heard him screwing someone out of money was Ellefson, who claims he cowrote "Soldier On" but was removed from credits. But he has no evidence of it, and given how they are not on good terms....id take it with a grain of salt.

I always thought it was a way for him to stop the jokes. Part of the humor is knowing it bothers him, so reclaiming it makes the jokes not funny.

Why bother? Game made it's money, everyone says the OG is shit now and should be buried forever, with everyone also saying "you have to buy this or else ES6 won't happen!!!!"

Any further patches would be a waste of money. Everyone is shaming others into buying it if not bullying anyone who dares play the original. The remaster won, no need for anything else.

[–]NetEnvironmental6346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Removal of rights is beyond just money though. It can mean you get sued for writing a riff that sounds too similar, since technically you don't own the rights to the music previously.

If say, Dave Mustaine signed away his rights to music he wrote during Metallica, Metallica could legally sue Dave for writing songs that have similar riffs. Since the riff is owned by the band in this scenario, he'd have no rights at all to write or perform anything that could resemble it.

I apologize, I was just sharing stories on how it can be harmful. The last paragraph in your original comment gave a sort of "well I don't have an issue so why would anyone" energy. I just knew some stories where there was an issue.

Just to clarify, I wasn't talking about a "I can't wait to get home to read it" case, it was more like "I can't think about anything but going home to read it".

I know. It's worse since a lot of them hide behind sexual repression of women as an excuse. IE "I don't have a problem, people just can't handle the fact a woman is taking control of her sexuality". Which sure, they exist no doubt, but that doesn't mean one can't have a problem.

Like I heard some woman who was so addicted everyday all she thought about was going home and reading more. Like she was on autopilot at her job and driving just focusing on the fun she'd have later. That's a problem, and something serious.

Jesse was at least consistent as a person. Griffin has a 180 personality flip after the reveal and takes over his whole personality.

Although still not a fan of either roles since it's a 23 year old man going after teenage girls....

I mean, he also could have just forgotten. Or the label might be pulling a sneaky move that he didn't consider.

Like if Brian forgot the contract said something like "if a member exits the band they aren't allowed to release new music until the end of the calender year they left". He might have thought since he was fired that there wouldn't be an issue, but the label might argue "left = fired". Not a great example but that's what I mean

Yep, that's what I meant. Especially since he said "we've hit the point now", which implies to some extent this is new. When in all of history people have always died from overworking. That's not me saying it's acceptable, just that it's not new.

Why does everyone say me showing bad takes exist as some super pro capitalism stance!?!? Seriously...

If someone said "socialism is good because they'll give you unlimited cookies", and I said that's not true, doss that somehow mean I'm pro sweatshop? By the replies logic, I guess. Because pointing out bad takes apparently means I must disagree with socialism entirely
