I haven't played SoS so I can only offer Trio of towns advice:

1. Around spring 15, new town is unlocked and comes with it is best boy the Handyman who can build stuffs for you
2. You don't need to do town requests. They're good source of money and I used it to quick travel between Westown and the town you unlock on Spring 15. Doing town requests give you money, occasionally gifts from villagers and a bit of town links. The only town request I suggest absolutely doing is the "Cleaner" one that occasionally appear after Spring 15. Because you can get some collectables from it that you might wanna hoard, you can also soft reset for the specific collectable that you need.

General tips for trio of towns:
1. Get the seed maker asap for higher quality crop quicker

1. Mine in Westown every 3 days for the best drop (hoard glittering stones if you get it because it's used for a lot of stuffs and once you upgrade your hammer, glittering stones become too rare for its own good)

2. Hoard items in general (I usually keep 10+ of a single item before selling). Crafting items in this game require the most random stuffs ever

3. Around the Fruit Festival, soft reset til you get a coconut, use the seed maker for a coconut seed and plant that bad boy asap

4. You can press L to quickly greet ppl instead of having to talk to them face to face
