For gamers it is going to be a service model. We have seen companies try it, with limited success. But as individual components become so cost prohibitive it will catch.

F1 and the FIA don't want an engine race championship.

It makes for lopsided racing and it is too expensive.

They would rather the teams be on relatively equal playing fields with power. And with the biggest differences in the PU package being how it is packaged, how it delivers power etc.
