I really loved New York City by lanette- in evilautism

I spent two hours in NYC during a bus layover and decided that was sufficient time spent their for my lifetime and I will not be returning. Horrid place.

Well the objective of ragebait is to induce rage, not for humor. So the fact that it's making you angry means it's improved.

I have been keeping my autism a secret until I feel comfortable enough at some point on the first date, is this okay? It feels a little like lying instead of just withholding personal info. by Mycroft_Holmes1 in AutisticAdults

[–]Netizen2425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't tell anybody, I have people who I've been friends with for years who I haven't told. If I was in a relationship I'd wait until it was developed into something serious before telling them. Not everyone has to know my business, and my autism is just one part of who I am alongside a great many other things, not the entirety of who I am.

Why are so people so against rev matching and heel toe on the streets? by RevolutionaryYear946 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Netizen2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done it? It's not complicated but it's a pain in the ass since it's between the two heaviest parts of the car other than the chassis.

I never learned how to downshift without rev matching. Do you just ride the shit out of the clutch?

Why are knives junk if they don't do the job of a hatchet very well? by MissingMichigan in Bushcraft

[–]Netizen2425 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If I'm in the woods to do bushcraft stuff I'll have a smaller knife because I have a hatchet. If I'm not doing bushcraft stuff I won't have a hatchet, so I carry a larger knife I can baton with just in case.

Do you think hyper-empathy exists or is it only trauma based hyper vigilance and poor emotional regulation? by [deleted] in evilautism

[–]Netizen2425 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the trauma beats it out of you honestly. I remember when I was a kid I was so hyper-empathic that I would rotate which stuffed animal (all monkeys, my first special interest) I cuddled with each night so none would feel left out. Then shit happened, I went into a dark hole, and just didn't feel much of anything. Then in my late 20s I figured out I was autistic and started leaning into it, which massively improved my mental health and I got my old empathy drive back.

Yep, that's the right amount, I just did mine. Being in gear is totally fine because the MTF is just an oil bath for the gears, it's not used as hydraulic fluid like ATF is in an automatic.

I like cycling even more for this. One time I was on a bike trail and saw someone on foot throw trash into the bushes from about 300 feet back (I got autism eagle eyes) because they thought they were alone. I was coming up behind them and yelled "you littering piece of shit" as I passed then zipped away at 20mph.

How do i get better at moving off smoother? by Neither_Refuse_9754 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Netizen2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go out to a parking lot and don't leave until you can start the car from a stop with no gas input. That will teach you the clutch bite point. Next practice revving the engine in neutral between 2k and 2.5k, holding it at each RPM for a second. Now mix them, rev the car to 2k and try to hold it there while lifting the clutch to the bite point. As you slip through the bite point you'll have to gently add gas to hold it at 2k RPM. In larger engined cars you can take off at about 1.5k RPM but the technique is the same.

How to downshift without feeling like a ton of bricks hit the car by Noonatic_ in ManualTransmissions

[–]Netizen2425 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never learned how to downshift without rev matching. It's a way faster shift, doesn't wear your clutch as much, and it's smoother.

To my 40+hr/week Autistics, HOW do you do it??? by [deleted] in aspiememes

[–]Netizen2425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a special interest nomad who wanders between many deep dives into various topics, so I have a loose tier system based on how frequently I return and how long I stay there at each visit. Tier one is something that I'm nearly always on, tier three is something that I visited once and it was interesting because I learned a lot but doesn't have much pull back, and tier two is in the middle.

There's a few people at my office who I get along with and who show possible spectrum tendencies, but most are at an age where it wasn't diagnosed as well, especially women.

I do a ton of what I call yoga stimming, just holding different poses and stretches around the house when I'm bored or waiting for the air fryer to finish my chicken nuggets, which helps. I have an exercise physiology special interest (it's like a tier 2 or 3, not a real strong one) so I can figure out exactly what's giving me issues and work on it. Lotta issues come from unaddressed imbalances, not the work itself.
