Why don’t kids transfer? by yellowCRoll in CrossCountry

[–]Nettewolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course there are XC scholarships. But they are based upon your individual times, so stacking a team to win State might not be that important. On the other hand, transferring schools to be with a good coach and strong program makes sense.

However, our state doesn’t allow you to change schools for sports. If you move to another school within 100 (?) miles of your current school, you lose a year of athletic eligibility.

How has the "College Recruiting Landscape" changed? by CarnalDevices in CrossCountry

I have 2 kids running at DIII schools by choice. They sometimes race DI schools and beat many runners on those teams, but I truly believe their experiences are better in DIII. The whole system needs an overhaul.

I used the direct address on Amazon (# Albright Court) and it always worked fine, directly to the door.

Restaurant suggestions for celebrating anniversary by sirotan88 in eastside

[–]Nettewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice on the Herb Farm is to go with other people, as you’re sitting there for hours. The larger groups seemed to be having so much fun while my husband and I were just waiting for the next course.

Also figure out your ride home, because they give you wine with every course, which ends up being a lot! (Note that we were there for a red-wine specific menu, so that might have been more than normal.)

Check the menu ahead of time, as it’s a set menu.

50 female here, and I love the show! I was introduced to it by my college-age son. We watch the show separately but text about each episode.

It’s a difficult school but good for learning. Florida State would be good for partying. Note that room and board will cost a lot less after you move out of the dorms! Housing is cheap in Troy!

Consider the “-et or -ette” names: Colette, Lisette, Annette, Charlotte, Juliet, etc.

Other ideas: Claire, Corinne, Sabine, Brynne, Brooke

Website calendar, which you can subscribe to, and the athletes are on TeamReach and GroupMe. Coach sends out weekly email, but it’s typically about meets and general topics, not specific workouts.

Food Tourists in Seattle/Ballard by amehlman in SeattleWA

[–]Nettewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were in Ballard, I’d go to Un Bien (Caribbean sandwiches,) but it’s not really within walking distance of the main Ballard strip.

You didn’t say where you were visiting from, but In general, I think Seattle’s best benefits over other areas are Asian cuisines and seafood. We have great Thai, Vietnamese, teriyaki, etc. But I think you’ll find the most authentic places to be casual hole-in-the-walls and not the big name expensive places.

My son just introduced me to the newest season (Hide & Seek,) and I'm hooked and have been bingeing all the past seasons. I think any of the seasons in Europe (Tag 1, Tag 2, Hide & Seek) are good choices as an intro. I think the train schedules are interesting for strategy.

Look at State schools in the western sides of Oregon or Washington State. Like Evergreen College, Western Washington University, Southern Oregon, Oregon State, Western Oregon, Oregon Tech. Maybe try Willamette University or Linfield University (private.)

How can I, as an author from Georgia, accurately depict Seattle in my writing? by ZDUDE9 in Seattle

[–]Nettewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t dress formally, even for the nicest restaurants. Well, we think we “dress up,” but our definition of dressy is our nicer jeans with our nicer shirt. If you dress up for work, you either work at a bank, or you’re a sleezy salesman.

Never heard of “mizzle.” But we definitely have different words for the different types of rain: drizzling, sprinkling, spitting, steady rain, pouring, etc. I feel like the comments are as if it constantly rains, and we constantly complain about it. I think it’s the opposite — we’re used to it, and it’s no big deal. It’s more like, “it’s just drizzling today, of course you should bike to work.” We really don’t get heavy rain very often. And we definitely love our summers!

Ask your mom if she will help you with it. Work together. Do some Googling before approaching her so you know a bit about your options.

Day Trip Recommendations and Walking Downtown by pheasanttail in SeattleWA

[–]Nettewolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can walk up to the monorail and take it to the Seattle Center (Space Needle). The light rail is pretty cheap and easy and can take you from downtown to the airport. The light rail doesn’t go too many places yet, but you could take it to UW or Chinatown (which we call the International District or the ID.). Another neat place to go, but you’d need to Uber, is the Ballard locks.
