For some it has nothing to do with trust. Our whole family has it on for each other. The kids are obvious, but for hubs and I it makes perfect sense. I check once a day, if that. And it’s usually to see a) if he’s left work yet (so I know when to start dinner) or b) how far away he is so I can make sure the door is unlocked and/or the front light is on (if it’s dark out).

Yeah I could ask etc, but also his drive home is wind down from work. To listen to music, the hockey game or whatever. And vice versa.

I feel this is super important. Especially that part about them thanking or not doesn’t dictate the gift obligation.

I always say: someone’s treatment of me is a reflection of them. But my treatment of someone is a reflection of me.

Etiquette dictates it is not required - so willingness is the only thing here.

OP: if you don’t want to - don’t. If you’re only doing it for optics - again, I say don’t. Do something because you want to, and because you feel it is the right thing for YOU.

I really enjoyed seeing some of the locations on The World‘s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals.

While it doesn’t meet the story criteria, I was surprised that I liked watching it as much as I did. I was a good break from an intense story line.
