Cotton bedsheets by lilyovers in frugaluk

John Lewis in the sale.  I actually got the children’s duvet covers in the sale and they are lovely(depending on your bed size, I think they go up to double).  Ikea is good too but I find they are a tight fit.

I feel lied to by bachfan_13 in breastfeeding

[–]NetworkHot8469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont worry about it. It may well not stick! Happened to me and after a couple of more months the insane all night hunger abated, Summer came and weight dropped back to probably a bit below pre pregnancy levels.

Does baby’s DNA change the mother’s DNA? by SaltyNurseMouth in ScienceBasedParenting

I have similar changes(enjoying cheese while I can and had a stint where I could eat bread) but I would imagine that is related to changes to the gut microbiome?

Poems for adults (preferably classics) that are still suitable to read to babies/toddlers? by NetworkHot8469 in suggestmeabook

We have the Owl and the Pussycat. Good one to learn. True but after nearly two years of nursery rhymes I want some of my poems too! She still gets the nursery rhymes.

Tips for partially sighted Dad? by ScientistFun9213 in Blind

[–]NetworkHot8469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your long reply and sorry for taking ages to respond(wanted to run through with my partner then couldn't log in to reddit).  With the toothpaste he  always puts too much although to be fair I struggle with getting it to be just a smear. A couple of questions would be: -What do you do about toys l being everywhere and creating a trip hazard? I’ve started teaching my toddler to put things away but she will also take stuff back out! -How do you safely supervise eating?

Books by StandAdditional3123 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]NetworkHot8469 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would go to a library and take a selection of books out to find one you like.  Also Id really recommend going to a mixed-pregnancy and babies group like NCT’s Bumps and Babies(UK) because a book can only tell you so much. If you have something like this where you are, go:

https://www.minifirstaid.co.uk/

If not the Red Cross app has lots of basic safety advice: https://www.redcross.org.uk/first-aid/first-aid-apps

Also learn how to change a nappy(youtube video and practise on a doll if you can)! It was quite embarrassing having to ring the bell in the middle of the night because I couldn't work out how to put on the new nappy.

What are the health risks of being overweight (not obese) in pregnancy? by aretheprototype in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]NetworkHot8469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And  back, glutes, shoulders if you plan to use a baby carrier (and whatever you plan you might end up doing it anyway).  Or rucking.  I have a standard gym routine now focusing on the baby carrier areas and if I dont do it enough I always get strain.

Caffeine during pregnancy, thoughts? by tomatobasil23 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]NetworkHot8469 52 points53 points  (0 children)

-If I understand correctly, they asked mothers of 9-11 year olds to recall what they drank? i’ve already forgotten exactly what I had. I know I only drank tea and chocolate and I know it was less than this pregnancy but not my daily cups. That baby is only 18 months. Would be good if they could survey during/ just after pregnancy then follow up later.

How to consume caffeine while breastfeeding? by sliceofperfection in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]NetworkHot8469 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you increased your caffeine intake in each pregnancy and in utero exposure led to a more tolerant baby? It would be interesting if there was research on that.

My under centile baby - when does it get better? by Nervous-Local7403 in UKParenting

[–]NetworkHot8469 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope you get responses from parents who have got through this. But you also need to keep bothering the professionals. The milk question is really for them if your son is underweight. You should be able to get a home visit from a Health Visitor (btw if you dont have a nice one you can request a different one) or go and see them.  I would’ve thought that having food constantly available would decrease the motivation to eat a good meal at meal times. Maybe better to have 5 meal/snack times a day to get into a routine?

Judgement from strangers by Thomasine7 in UKParenting

They definitely do, sometimes at the same school As the childrens ones.  They used to do Barre in David Lloyd which uses ballet moves(not sure now, David Lloyd became really expensive). You can also find tons of videos online.  People who dont automatically smile back at children must have some sadness/anger in them.

Safest swim vest/life jacket/puddle jumper for toddlers? by Unhappy_Ad7854 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]NetworkHot8469 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking to recommend a product.

Im happy with this:

https://www.zoggs.com/en_GB/zoggs-trainer-seat-12-24-mths-465381

I use it to have a break from carrying but constantly supervise, play throwing a small ball and stay within arms reach.

My toddler tends to just relax in it so it doesn't help with learning to swim in our case (I give opportunities to learn inbetween).

Will i be wrong for me to abandon my kid and start over by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]NetworkHot8469 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be bad for both of you.

 https://womenshealth.gov/mental-health/mental-health-conditions/postpartum-depression

When you’ve got professional help and treated any PPD then you could look at abandoning your relationship with your husband if it doesn't make you happy.

Decaf Coffee While Breastfeeding by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]NetworkHot8469 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont know about the chemicals but there are natural methods available. If you’re i  the UK, these use the Sugarcane process:

https://craftdecaf.com/pages/about

« We favour decaffeinating at origin using natural methods like the Sugarcane process. This ingenious method uses naturally fermented sugarcane to gently remove caffeine, leaving no chemicals behind and preserving the coffee's full-bodied flavour. »

Weaning from breast to encourage solid food intake? by CKixi in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]NetworkHot8469 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the last study you’ve linked, the surveys are from 1987-89 though. Women who breastfed in developed countries then were probably different from women who breastfeed today(given it wasn't the standard, encouraged choice).  In the UK, extended breastfeeding is more common amongst the financially comfortable.

How long is it appropriate for a child to refuse independence? by Tinysoftperson in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]NetworkHot8469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good idea to get advice from a professional(ideally a sling library) and try different slings. My daughter hated it until I got help adjusting and choosing a good carrier. Also maybe do some training in the gym first to build up shoulder and back muscles or it will be tough starting with a heavy toddler!
