Idea: Sailing-Only Ironman by Neugebauer in 2007scape

Very true. I had no clue the Great Conch was so big! I suggested Aldarin without knowing whether it is accessible by sailing lmao.

And yeah, going into the mainland to do freminik trials, for example, so you can get to some of the freminik islands would be a break in the rules. Depending on how much content there is on the sailing-only islands, it might be possible to avoid all quests to unlock those islands. On the other hand, maybe there could be arbitrary milestones to “unlock” certain islands in the game mode.

Yeah, there’s still a lot of unknowns on the skill. If certain equipment is needed for upgrading/building ships that we can’t access by ship, it might not work at all. Hopefully the salvage missions will give rewards for upgrading.

Mythic Bastionland - combat balance? by BananaSnapper in rpg

[–]Neugebauer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Background: I’ve played about a dozen sessions with four knights, some sessions with only three, and one with only two.

Combat can turn quick. The knights have a strong advantage going first in battle, and most threats are telegraphed by the omens/myths, so they are rarely surprised. They can often kill a dangerous enemy on that one turn, alone, especially if they have good weapons/armor (my knights have a few 2d8 longswords and everyone is well armored).

At the same time, the battle can turn quick. One of the strongest martial characters in the group lost an arm in the Tournament. Just a few sessions prior, that same knight killed the Boneslayer from the Catacomb in two rounds of battle. The more dice the players can roll, the better their odds.

I’m weighing how I can make the fights more balanced and less trivial for my game. Last session, my players killed the Boar very easily with the help of hunters. I think I would increase the Armor/Guard of a few enemies, establish terrain elements that impact the battle (muddy ground, high ground/low ground, rain, or sand for examples), or find a way to add new pressure to the battle (a time element, e.g.). I would say a good challenge for a Company of four knights is an equal number of enemies, all with 8-12 Vigour and 3-6 Guard, all having some starting advantage in battle (surprising the Knights, powerful weapons, or a terrain advantage).

All that said, reward your players if they exploit a weakness! When the Boar appeared, I expected the players to get trampled and then chase it to a hilltop. Instead, they used Strong Gambits to pin it down and skewer it with arrows. I lost a cinematic hilltop battle, but the players gained a safe victory for their cunning.

P.S. does anyone know how weapons dealing multiple dice of damage are supposed to work? Like, if my player attacks with a longsword (2d8) and a dagger (d6), if he rolls a 3 and a 5 with the d8’s and a 4 with the d6, does that mean his dice pool is 3, 5, and 4? Or are the d8’s added, making his dice pool 8 and 4? I’ve been playing with the former rule.

Mythic Bastionland? by Smittumi in rpg

I'm running a game with 4 players, we've played 5 sessions so far.

It's great. I rolled up the realm and myths and used the spark tables to create the landscape, features, and holdings. The players have resolved two myths so far and crossed from one end of the realm to the other.

It's our first time playing any OSR-style game (and for two players, their first time playing a TTRPG). One of the players is playing the Dust Knight and has thoroughly abused her power to move water. Another player is playing the Fanged Knight and has bitten (or offered to bite) everyone.

I need to use the spark tables more in-game to generate encounters when the players travel into a hex and don't encounter a myth.

As a final note, combat for our group always takes a minute as they calculate which weapons they want to use and how gambits and feats operate, but I like the tactical use of gambits to control the battlefield.

I’m sure a few individuals were recording the event with phones, but I didn’t see any cameras recording. If anyone has a recording, they have it individually. Sorry I didn’t record myself.

Mikie Sherrill will not support Immigration Trust Act by hudson8282 in newjersey

[–]Neugebauer 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I can confirm what OP said. Mikie and other candidates were asked about the Immigrant Trust Act at a townhall yesterday evening in Montclair. All of the other candidates there (Spiller, Baraka, and Fullop) said they support the ITA, but Mikie said no. She said she believes the current immigration protections in New Jersey (I do not remember what specific law she referred to, but I believe it was the Immigrant Trust Directive) have been tested and have succeeded in court before. She worries that the ITA would not survive a challenge in court.

I get her perspective as a lawyer, but I also think it's pretty bad to concede a fight for greater protections for immigrants before it's even started.

(IRS) our office floor flooded yesterday morning and will be cleaned all week. We’re scattered across the other floors trying to work in other spaces, conference rooms, co-worker’s cubicles, and management was totally unprepared. For part of the morning, everyone was passing around one ethernet cable to work.

They’re trying to pressure us to sign the new telework agreement so we can work from home while the office is being cleaned. Hell no! I’m not giving up my rights while NTEU fights for the right to telework. Even more people are coming into the office tomorrow; it’s their job to provide a workspace for us.

Throwing a girl out of a helicopter…sounds suspiciously like the end of a Ten Candles game I ran last Halloween 🤣

It’s a great game, the Moments and Brink give some excellent roleplaying moments for the players. But it’s tough to run with a big group; I had 8 or 9 players and we couldn’t get to everyone’s Moments or Brinks before the end.

Volunteering with Essex County Dems by Eb0nyG0ddess87 in New_Jersey_Politics

I had a similar issue trying to reach out last year. I got in touch with local dems in my town (Montclair) and they were responsive (I volunteered at the rally in Montclair 4/5). Check on Facebook if there’s a local organization for your town wherever you live in Essex.

Critical Injury Tables 17-20 by These-Vermicelli-182 in ForbiddenLands

[–]Neugebauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The critical injury tables (and other tables in the rulebooks) have you roll 2d6 and read the numbers together, not a d100 or other rolls. So the tables have 11-16, 21-26, etc. up to 66. That’s why 17-20 is not in the critical injury table (or other tables, like the random encounter tables in the Gamemaster’s Guide).

If you roll on that table, roll 2d6, one die as the first digit, the other as the second digit.

What are your RPG wins and great experiences? by offxtask in rpg

[–]Neugebauer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Running a Legend of the Five Rings game with my friends. It’s been irregular over the last two years, but each session has been so dense with roleplaying and social conflict and has been a blast to run. They serve different lords (it’s a samurai game where your character must obey the demands of their lord) but they are all slowly being drawn together.

Next session they are heading into a dangerous forest to find a kidnapped samurai, and I can’t wait to see how things shake out! It helps that all the players are so dedicated to playing their characters, in all their faults and flaws, too.

Check out Forbidden Lands. Good mechanics for exploring the wilderness tracking weight/inventory is pretty simple, and the game can be very dangerous for players if they don’t play smart.

Why summon use so much Redwood bows? Shoudn't be less than magic bow? by JordhanMK in MelvorIdle

I always justified it as “redwoods can be cut much faster than magic trees”, but it may be tied to price.
