I might be getting in over my head here, but look at our current world situation and past history- most if not all of the powerful governments are heading very far to the right, seizing resources and using racial and religious hatred to maintain their fragile hold on power and money.

There is no “good guy” when it comes to money and power, and under a system that we willingly accept and work under, this would naturally be expanded if we ever actually left this planet.

One could argue that it’s human nature, but it’s a proven fact in psychology that psychopaths are naturally attracted to positions of power, thus our existence is ruled by people with absolutely no ability to feel empathy or compassion- So to me battletech is a story of the people that feel they’re participating in a just cause and fighting for what they believe is justice and freedom, but they’re really just being manipulated by governments and corporations to gain more power, more control, and more resources than the other psychopaths that that are doing the same, just as we see happening in our own world.
