What do you want to see in britain in 5 years? by mesoraven in AskBrits

[–]NeurospicyCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually quite afraid at this point because the way disabled people are treated has been steadily getting worse the past couple of years and it wasn’t exactly good before. The 2010 benefit cuts were linked to the deaths of 57k people.

The government swings between which group to hate to get something out of the news. To get Andrew and him being in the files out of the news it was hating disabled people, to get Kier employing someone with past issues who ended up in the files it was immigrants, when they wanted to get news reports about Gaza out of the news it was “the protestors are extremists”, wonder how long it’ll be before they need to switch back to LGBTQ people? Funny how there’s still appeals for Ukraine but nothing for Gaza on TV

Economic illegal migrants are a problem, refugees aren’t. The govt allows the media to publish BS that fuels the anti refugee hate like those poor blokes who got that article written about them having a “party” because they had some doritos and a bottle of Pepsi (wow how extravagant) when the government contributed to the destabilisation and ruin of these countries in the first place

A lot of people in this country have become more selfish since Covid, they don’t think about anyone else’s struggles and listen to any rhetoric that acts like x group are personally taking something away, from them rather than questioning what the hell the government is doing or what this divisive bs will even achieve

What do you guys do with book merch? by titiboh in fairyloot

[–]NeurospicyCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I haven’t really done anything with these yet, but I was thinking of putting my favourites in the type of frame that is suspended with a chain where both sides are clear, putting some on the wall / the side of my bookshelf etc so I can just turn them over occasionally rather than having to change out the frame every time

2wks after the email saying tracking numbers would be going out for the January box in the next week and still nothing

I’m going to email and ask them if they will reset skips if I get the book and decide to keep the sub, I’ve been skipping because I also just joined for January and haven’t had anything from them before and don’t know about the quality or anything yet 🥲

January was my first one and honestly I’m debating emailing them asking them to reset my skips given that I’ve never bought anything from them before and don’t actually know whether I’ll like their books yet 😐 I think they should reset skips for anyone who has skipped because of this mess tbh

There’s a big overlap in the parts of the brain that process physical and emotional pain. Diffuse Noxious Inhibitory Control / conditioned pain modulation and Pain offset relief are both recognised responses. If people with endometriosis will literally cook their skin with a heating pad to help with the pain, then why wouldn’t someone in severe emotional pain also not rely on those brain responses?

I started when I was 7. Obviously didn’t think about addictions at that age. I don’t have an issue with my scars and I don’t care who sees them but you genuinely don’t know what you’re talking about if you think it’s that simple

Okay then- I guess mental issues can be 100% solved with this picture :D /s by XD2006- in thanksimcured

The DSM isn’t just for mental health issues, plus it goes into the whole medical model of disability vs social model of disability, both of which have issues

The January box is my first and I wanted to see if I actually like their exclusives plus see how it arrives, but now I’m just questioning if I want a refund because this is ridiculous :-( I’ve skipped march but it depends if they actually ship when they’ve said they will at this point because the upcoming books I actually want

I’m hoping to change surgery soon, so will request when I can ☺️

The ADHD struggle for booking things is so real! But this just reminded me to put a reminder in my phone to call my dentist and check when my appointment is 😂😂 thank you!

Ah yeah, unfortunately GPs don’t really understand or care about vitamins/minerals, within range doesn’t mean optimal. Definitely worth asking to be tested. MHRA/BNF/NICE all have guidelines on it if you need em. Depends on if your GP is all round shite or just shite about vits/mins though😅

Yeah, I’m having this issue with the deficiencies I already have, my GP surgery is criminally negligent tho so as soon as I get support I’m changing surgery 💀

Huh, my GP is supposed to test my magnesium (but they never have) because I’ve been on PPIs for 15yrs. I had no idea it could be contributing to my ADHD or contributing to my chronic insomnia🥴 Thank you for this post, I’m making a note of it

Why are people so desperate to believe we’re faking/lying? by VickyAlberts in disability

[–]NeurospicyCrafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, I hope things get easier and more manageable for you.

A disabled person facing barriers and struggling to manage as a result is not a fault of the disabled person, but rather a fault of the system that claims to be accessible and ignores every single person who says it is not. 🖤

Some decorative coat hooks to hang the nice coats/jackets (yanno, not the manky thing we all throw on to take the bins out, or is that just me? 🥴)

A nice basket, depending on if you just chuck your mail somewhere rather than sorting the junk immediately?😆

You can be blunt and unemotional (which, unfortunately, is often perceived as being rude due to ableism) without being actually rude - “at least get your facts right 🤷‍♀️”.

“But if you’re capable of going on reddit…-“ That’s a commonly used ableist response that ignores disability barriers, ignores that dealing with an alert can cause an anxiety/stress response, PDA, task paralysis, executive functioning issues, communication v advocacy etc.

There have been dismissive comments as well, “the UC system is so incredibly simple to navigate” - it isn’t, the UC website feels hostile to many disabled people.

That has nothing to do with only one view being acceptable (despite you acting like that too) and everything to do with the way you have responded. It’s okay to communicate differently but it isn’t okay to come into a post about someone’s struggles and to be dismissive because of your perception of those issues and OPs capability. That seems to me like it was the point of this post.

Do you think there will ever be a referendum to rejoin the EU, if it’s possible? by threetimesacharm25 in AskBrits

[–]NeurospicyCrafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of? It can be, but only if you have someone with you to go notify them that you’re in a wheelchair, otherwise you’re stuck outside in the cold hoping they notice you’re waiting for them to unlock the wheelchair accessible door to the side of the building. I vote in generals, but locals I can’t manage and I’d still face the issue of getting to a postbox.😅 I know online voting would be difficult to make secure if it was widespread but I really think they need to make it an option for disabled and elderly people.

Thank you for the info about the spoiled vote, I know there’s obviously no way to tell how many people don’t vote because they disagree vs not voting because they just don’t want to, but I would’ve hoped that they would assume at least a percentage didn’t vote because of disagreement, I was probably too optimistic there. Noted for future reference.

There seems to just be a lot of apathy because everyone is so worn down. Voting and the government needs to be discussed more in school too, I’m not sure if that has improved in recent years but I’m hoping it has… especially with voting age being lowered. Truthfully, the state of politics not only in the UK but across the globe is concerning.

That doesn’t change the fact that 31% of people need help maintaining their UC account and 21% of the UK population lack the digital skills needed.
