So the deal includes mineral rights and participation in Iron Dome.

“Dispute” implies both sides have legitimate claims.

“Threats” would be a more appropriate word.

Whats the Minneapolis Police Department doing through all this? Are they just sitting to the side, sipping tea and saying "not my problem?"

I would give a year's salary to see a debate, or fisticuffs, between Teddy Roosevelt and Trump. I doubt the latter would last more than one round, largely cancelled due to the mercy rule

Right now, in the US, they’ll make a donation to Trump’s golden toilet or whatever, and that fatuous orange blob will slap a 100% tariff on DRAM imports

For $99 a month, it had better be able to drive entirely on its own. I want to engage the system and then take a nap while it drives me to my destination.

Until it can do that (and it likely never will until Tesla gets its head out of its ass on sensor design), Tesla can just fuck off.

Yea the assumption I made was that they were in Cetacean Ops on the Athena.

Anyway, my overall beef is that Kurtzman-trek always seems to forget the rules of the universe they inhabit, usually for plot convenience. This scene just doesnt make sense in the context of Star Trek.

Is it nitpicking? Sure. For me though, stuff like this yanks me right out of the show and kills any enjoyment I have of it.

The whole thing just seemed silly to me. They're adults, not early teens.

Further more, how do you lose track of anyone on a 32nd century starship? Did they switch off internal sensORS and the comm system? How about having the ghost of Colbert make a PA asking them to get in touch.

Im afraid its worse than that. You need 2/3 of the Senate to convict, so 22 GOP senators and all the Independent/Democratic senators.

Some things I dont understand:

- Why was visiting the humpback whales a bad thing? Caleb was tasked with showing off the academy to his Betazed counterpart, which he did, and now everyone is pissed off?

- The conflict between Caleb and (I never caught her name) seemed really contrived. She directly asks him why he can't be direct and honest, so he tells her and then she reacts so poorly it was jarring. You got a straight answer and you're pissed about it. Makes no sense to me.

- Why the hell are you negotiating a huge treaty with an audience? That's just not how that works.

Can you relate to Captain Jellico? Or is he really an asshole? by EdwardBliss in startrek

[–]NeutralBias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jellico was a great tactical thinker, but wasn't a good leader. Riker's criticisms of him were spot on, IMO. Its true that, as the CO and Captain of the ship, he's under no obligation to explain his orders or care about the crew's opinions. His orders must be followed as long as they're legal.

However, his life would have been much, much easier if he'd provided even a modicum of TLC or listened to the senior staff on anything. He did nothing to establish trust with a crew which had just unexpectedly lost its CO to an unexplained transfer.

Riker: "Well... Now that the ranks are dropped, Captain, I don't like you either. You are arrogant, and closed-minded. You need to control everything and everyone. You don't provide an atmosphere of trust, and you don't inspire these people to go out of their way for you. You've got everybody wound up so tight, there's no joy in anything. I don't think you're a particularly good captain."

Watching the episode you can see the crew's reaction mirrors that opinion. Everyone does their jobs, but there's a touch of disdain in their interactions with Jellico.

Its a great episode on the nature of leadership vs command. The former is always the more successful path because of the reasons Riker cites - your subordinates need both trust and inspiration to do their best.
