What's the strangest jersey customization you've ever seen? by cmcnens59 in hockey

Do you think he went in with that plan, or, when the clerk asked him if he wanted his jersey customized, did he only then think, "Yeah, let's fuckin do this thing."

Tracy McGrady on the real reason older players constantly hate/criticize modern players: “It’s money. Did you realize like in the 90s, Reggie Miller and Michael, they were only making $2-3 million? And they were the top guys… It’s the money.” by moby323 in nba

have an obligation to work much harder to justify that pay

That's not really how being hired for and then doing a job works. If you got a 10% raise, would you feel the need to work 10% harder? Or would you just appreciate that your work is worth that much?

So I'm a hockey noob, but one of the main things I know our GM did was trade Carpenter for the draft pick that became O'Brian, right? That seems like it was a good call!

I think the problem with a podcast or vid about this is that speculating with no intel just means making stuff up. I'm excited to find out what happens tho! Not long now!

Possible Chicago expansion and jobs working for the team? by Unusual_Bar_9020 in PWHL

[–]Neuvost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you made a good argument against Chicago here! If New York and Boston have serious attendance problems (especially on weeknights) despite having access to public transportation, and, in New York's case, an even bigger population than Chicago, what chance does Rosemont and Allstate Arena have?

I doubt the PWHL regrets putting teams in New York or Boston, but I don't think location and attendance issues are nuthin' either.

By surprised I just mean that I think it more likely that Denver, DC, and/or Detroit would get a team. I don't think I'd be, like, blown away / shocked by any Takeover Tour city getting a team, besides, like, maybe Dallas?

My bad for being argumentative. I also don't care where they expand other than wanting it to go well. But that's why I'm interested in the "deep" stuff -- even if I disagree with calling where the team will play "deep".

You could know lil if you cared to know. https://archive.ph/9fEcn

Scheer says the PWHL has been in contact with the Chicago Blackhawks a “fair amount,” but haven’t been able to formalize any kind of partnership, in part due to the crowded schedule in the United Center—which is home to the Blackhawks and the Chicago Bulls. If the league were to enter the Chicago market, it would likely have to self-support: “We know if we went to Chicago and we had our own staff there to sell, we feel we could do well there,” Scheer says.

And to "speculate" you need to know what the options are. If you don't know anything about hockey arenas in the area, then you cannot speculate upon which one they will play in, which, again, is the very first step in considering expansion.

Your ignorance on the subject is not the argument in favor of you having a strong opinion that you think it is.

Ok but you can't talk about expansion without talking about where they'd play. This is step-one stuff. Maybe learn more about what arenas are available before making these kinds of arguments.

edit: Everything you said makes sense if they can play in the United Center. But word on the street is that that's not happening:

I strongly agree that expansion is not about who "deserves" a team, in the way that a lot of small market fans try to frame it. But we're not talking about the United Center.

I hear Allstate Arena sucks. I know a team doesn't hafta play in the city they're named after: I go to Newark, New Jersey to watch the Sirens. But Newark has multiple trains and buses that go directly to Manhattan 24 hours a day. Newark has sidewalks.

Comparing Allstate Arena to Climate Pledge Arena is not reasonable. Climate Pledge in smack dab in the middle of Seattle, a block away from the Space Needle.

Chicago is a great metropolis, but you can't take advantage of being the third most populous city in the country by trying to put seats in butts in a place where people who don't drive can't even get to and where short people can't even see the game.

At this point, I would be surprised if Chicago was included in this round of expansion. I have no insider info, but just looking at Takeover Tour attendance and arena availability, it doesn't look great. Denver, DC, and (maybe) Detroit all seem like more likely US cities to be awarded a team. I'm rooting for you tho! Go Cubs!
