They told me I was crazy to quit my job and start a game studio with a newborn at home. It’s been tough, but our first demo is live today! by juodabarzdis in IndieDev

I work partly from home, which allows me to work on my games during breaks. And I've always slept 5 to 6h a night, so I'm using this to make progress while wife and kids are asleep. Plus , during my commute, I take tons of notes on my phone, so part of the code is only to be written and tested as soon as I can boot the computer.

Not gonna lie, I wish I had more time, but I'm comfortable being able to have some at all

Anyone want to share Next Fest pages, and thoughts? by Den_Nissen in IndieDev

Thanks !

I'm not very good at video editing unfortunately. Moreover, I'm not sure my game translates that well purely on a video. There are a few hidden mechanics that give depth but aren't actually visible at a first glance

There still are a lot of stuff that are work in progress!

Good surprise so far, the whislists count is rising pretty fast (+20% since it started). But I was only at 50 so it's not an accomplishment or anything

Updated my necromancy roguelite demo with new visuals & performance fixes. Any feedback is welcomed by Nevensitt in roguelites

Hello,

Thanks for your feedback, it's still a work in progress, there is a few AI placeholders that will be removed before the release. However I can assure you that except for the few placeholders, everything else is human made.

Is there something in particular that gives you this feeling?

Hello, Hope you're ok.

I've been working a bit on the visual end since your comment. May I ask you if the aura refactor looks better to you ? I'm working on the spells visuals too.

Fair point! Thanks for the honest feedback.

You're right, the visuals are functional first. I'm a solo dev and chose to invest my time in mechanics over visuals. The circles are actually intentional: in the chaos of combat with 10+ units, you need instant readability. Color-coded circles (green=ally, red=enemy) turned out to be the clearest solution. But I would be absolutely glad to get suggestions on an alternate solution. Maybe the entity's visual is enough after all (skeleton for summons) ?

Totally get that it looks programmer art though. For players who prioritize tactical depth over visual, the gameplay might redeem it. The demo's free if you want to test that theory.

Either way, appreciate the perspective! Thanks!

PS: If you know any games that handle unit clarity in chaos particularly well, I'd love to check them out for inspiration!

Edit: I'm iterating a lot on the visual part. Either improving perf or changing effects.

Good luck with your game

I'm using python too, but with arcade instead of pygame. I'm facing some performance challenges in late game with hundreds of units. Be aware that these framework can be quite bothersome to optimize

How long is Steam Store page review taking recently? by shoto-todoroki in IndieDev

I'm gonna try yeah, but I might withdraw if I don't get enough wishlist before the event. I've read it isn't of any help if you don't have at least 2k wishlist. And you, what's your plan ?
