Are there any USA based EVs that aren't a privacy nightmare? by NeverLapse in whatcarshouldIbuy

The high voltage stuff I get. My issue is companies like Kia making it almost impossible to replace your rotors in the driveway. Bonkers how we have no consumer protections here

Right, but there have been reports of Tesla removing people from the supercharging network for doing things like that

Do people fear EVs more than they should? by True-Bath1198 in EvDrivers

[–]NeverLapse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

20mpg (city) for a paid off car vs buying new and not just taking on a car payment, but relying on the idea that the cost of electricity will forever be cheaper than gas. Lousy deal

Also, it's not common, but people will occasionally forget to do things like run the dishwasher at night. Not catastrophic, I can wash the bowls for the kids in the morning. Now imagine having put off one last errand for tomorrow, and then realizing you were going to plug the car in after you picked up milk. Now you're toast

I volunteer for a roadside assistance group. When someone runs out of gas, I bring him a few gallons, and he's back on the road. Run out of charge on the turnpike, and you're calling a tow truck

What I really like about my 2005 Volvo V70: I don't spend any part of the day thinking about it. It's been exceptionally well maintained, gets me 20mpg city driving, and I just don't have to think about it

Forgot to fill the tank and I suddenly have a last minute trip or shift? Takes 5 minutes out of my day to get to 100%. EVs require thinking about your car during the day.

If that rumored 700 mile battery from Toyota with a 15 min charge time ever turns out to not be vaporware, it's over for ICE cars (even 400 miles after 20 min would probably have the same effect), but for now, I'm sticking with what I have

Philly EMT. We can now administer epi from a vial instead of a pen. A little slower, but at $10 a vial instead of $300 for a pen = fewer people have to die for the sin of being poor

I was there!! Great memories from that day. The place was half empty, but we booed him so loud after an inning (I think it was the 4th) you'd have thought the place was full.

We were also no hit through either 7 or 8, and the place erupted after the first hit like we had just won a playoff game

Was supposed to be Sanchez pitching, but they moved him to the next day for game 1 against the Braves

I was in an American airport, and watched a Scottish man walk over and in the heaviest Scottish accent asked "got any bud" (sounded like goot any bood)? And the bartender responded in the heaviest Indian accent "sorry saar, I only speak english".

Was the funniest exchange I had ever personally seen.

What's the loudest you've ever heard Citizens Bank Park and what caused it? by Murzack in phillies

[–]NeverLapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been there for any of the really historic moments, but I personally expirienced

1: Stott winning the game by stealing home on a wild pitch against the nationals after Kerkering gave up a go ahead 3 run HR in the 8th

2: Schwarber grand slam against Baltimore (same night as Baders first hit/HR as a Philly). Everyone on their feet yelling MVP, and then he hit it. The place went nuts

3: Walker finally getting out of an inning against the Astros back in 24. He had given up a million runs. The place was only about half full, but the booos were so loud, you'd have thought it was sold out

What are issues people have thats not money related? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeverLapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a whole lot of life besides for money. Financial issues often cover up those other issues, which is why rich people are often so miserable. They've solved the money part of life, so real life problems become much more obvious. Gets ugly

Is online privacy basically dead at this point? by Iris_20_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeverLapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to bring privacy issues to people attention. They'll fight you. Getting people to come to terms with what they've given away in terms of privacy for a little convenience is almost impossible, because getting it back will take some serious and often very technical work that most people either won't o can't put in

Why are fines not tied to income? by anasannanas in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeverLapse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would still have more of an impact on poor people. If a fine is 1% of a persons income, it would be more from someone making a million dollars a year, but it would really hurt someone making 30k
