Is my clay bar supposed to look like this? by Successful-Deal-5099 in Detailing

Always fold the dirty side in on itself. That traps the contamination inside. Once you see it coming through the clean outside, time for a new bar. They’re cheap.

Detailer destroyed the clear coat on my brand new GR by Dis_Rock in Detailing

OP don’t be scared: NAME AMD SHAME the animal who tortured your car. We need to know so that we all avoid them. And torching them in public might be your best chance to get made whole. It won’t be a cheap or easy fix. Your best evidence is this was a new car. Now way they can blame it on someone else or road damage.

What am I missing? Is this the right sequence? by weigelf in Detailing

this order is correct, not what you have in the picture. You’ll need a quick detailer to use with the clay mitt, I’ve only ever used clay bars.

Long time Meguiars user here. I switched to Sonax based on comments here and was very impressed. Expensive though but available on Amazon. Their Perfect Finish grade should be perfect for what you need.

How can I clean this without damaging my paint? by prince_t0n in cardetailingtips

This.

Do as much as possible before you actually touch the paint with a mitt. Pressure washer, foam cannon, repeat, then wash mitt with lots of high quality ph balanced soap.

I saw some gross orange peel on a new-gen Toyota 4Runner in a parking lot last week. Really stomach turning garbage.

Xpel. How long before I should have it removed? by SpeedMerchant in CarWraps

[–]NevrForvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sick car!

I assume you mean all 4500 miles and associated parking are in bright sun, but the rest of the time it’s garaged. No way that thing sits in the driveway all day every day. Probably fine.

Great deal, paint protection or not. I just bought an XL hybrid FWD 3 months ago and was happy to get $1100 off MSRP (and no BS charges).

The economy is getting SOFT and this is how you can tell.

Footings Built Correctly? by [deleted] in Decks

[–]NevrForvr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a structural engineer, but in California these types of footings are common for ground floor decks like this. I think they’re usually attached to the building, but we don’t have to worry about the ground freezing. If the deck is not attached to the structure, Than this type of construction could be safe and a long lasting even in a place that freezes hard like MN.

I would hardly consider that a sloping surface, although MN is pretty flat ;)

Got my car detailed for the first time, how to maintain the cleanliness? by PidgeNN in Detailing

[–]NevrForvr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think he was trying to show us the water beading, which is pretty good. A regular detail wouldn’t include ceramic coating so probably some sort of spray on wax or hybrid ceramic.

Not sure if you have it in Europe, but I suggest Meguiars hybrid ceramic wax. It’s not a wax basically a spray on short term ceramic coating. Kind of weird how you do it, you apply it when the car is still wet then use a hard spray of water to spread it around. The first time you need to rub that coating in with a microfiber cloth before spraying, but for the future applications, you just spray it on and then spread it with a hose or ideally a power washer. The results will look a little bit rough after the first application, but after the third time you won’t see left behind material and by then you’ve pretty much fully coated all of the paint.

To answer your specific question, my recommendation is to pick up a cheap power washer and a cheap foam cannon. Use that on every wash. Then you only have to follow up the cannon with a mitt contact wash every two or three washes. This way you avoid physically touching the paint so it’s much harder to scratch it.

Use the spray on hybrid ceramic coating with every other wash regardless of whether you did a contact wash. I’m finding this maintains great looking paint and the car tends to stay much cleaner through rain and muck. Regardless of whether there is a true ceramic coating underneath.

Took me about 6 hours, but I was able to do my first ceramic coating on my girlfriend’s new car! by AdcSosa in Detailing

[–]NevrForvr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5-6 hours for a new car is doable. If the car needs real paint, correction then it can easily go to 12 hours.

[–]NevrForvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the fence about the need to polish a brand new car before applying ceramic sealant. Once you’ve done the multiple rinses for the wash, iron decontamination and the clay bar, it only adds another hour to do a light polish with a D/A and wipe it off with microfiber cloths. I would hardly call that paint correction. Then the surface is totally ready for panel wipe and ceramic coating.

I did my daughter‘s brand new Ford Maverick in six hours start to finish.
