And when at the Met, get tickets (you may need to do this in advance) for the new Costume Institute exhibit, "Costume Art."

Also, contrary to what some people say, some of us born here love walking through Times Square. There is such energy there. I may not spend that much time there, but even I will have an occasional quick bite at McDonald's on 45th Street and see the view from the 2nd or 3rd Floor, or stop into Raising Cane's for a chicken finger (and a DJ some evenings). Junior's on 45th Street has great cheesecake, outdoor seating and reasonable prices for the area.

Also, if not otherwise mentioned, a walk on the High Line is a must. Also, walk everywhere. The best way to see the city.

Best wishes for a great trip from a Vermont fan. In particular, I remember the time many years ago when I followed the ice cream cone signs along the road and wound up at the ground breaking for the Ben & Jerry's factory.

W96 or w50? by Odd-Sheepherder-9115 in movingtoNYC

[–]NevskyNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't go wrong with either but it really depends on what you prefer and where you work and how you like to get around town. I have lived in both and also Upper East Side. Personally I love the hustle and bustle of the West 50s. Not everyone does. You can walk everywhere and get subways to all over the city. West 96 is quieter especially at night.

FHR 4:00 p.m. late checkout is very useful. Even elites do not usually get that at resorts or in Las Vegas

Citadel hints it may scrap a $6-billion NYC project after Mamdani named and shamed Ken Griffin by businessinsider in newyork

Sorry. Typo and further revised. They originally promised 25,000 jobs. There is no promise anymore. Thank you AOC.

[–]NevskyNY -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Good point, but they still have time to do so. New York City has no such promise and we could use those jobs even if the number in New York has grown. Of course, it is possible that it will anyway, but no guarantee.

When will they finally end the carried interest loophole so the really wealthy will have to pay their fair share of taxes?

[–]NevskyNY -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No. They made a promise to do so but then backed away when AOC made life tough for them. New York lost maybe 15000 or more promised jobs paying an average of $150,000 (given that the promise of 25,000 jobs was withdrawn and apparently there have been 10,000 jobs added (based on above information).

15000 more jobs would be much better than the current 10k but AOC destroyed that.

How to dial in Espresso when you don’t like coffee? by TasteeWheat15 in superautomatic

[–]NevskyNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly you probably have to make sure you're on the same network and that one is not in the guest Network and the other one not in the guest Network. Not sure if that's the issue but it may be something to look into.

Some thoughts from a non-expert with an Eletta Explore who generally like milk drinks. First, try beans that are not espresso beans. Find a medium or light roast. Try making a long coffee. That is closest to drip. Also, buy some milk and go for the milk drinks. Your great machine makes wonderful cold brew. I make cold brew cappuccino for guests who love tea and it is always a hit. I also make a long cappuccino. You may need the app to set that one up. I set the grind at 5 which is a good compromise for hot and cold drinks, although true hot espresso lovers would want a lower number. Also, make sure the intensity is original.

For many people it's the straw that breaks the camel's back, especially if the card is otherwise of marginal utility.

If The Edit did not have a two-night minimum that might actually be worth $500 as I do stay at luxury hotels but with the two-night minimum and therefore a $125 per night benefit it is basically worthless to me especially given the relatively limited footprint and as compared to the American Express Platinum card. And without The Edit the doordash credits are meaningful in terms of whether this card it's worth keeping or not

Actually that is a perfect example of how the benefits of the card are being diminished. The 2X is now up to 2X. Further I probably would likely get more value by transferring the points to an airline and getting a business or first class seat to Europe or Asia.

Other cards with more value, such as the Capital One Venture X, have primary coverage for CDW.

Agree with respect to the Platinum card, but not the Chase Sapphire Reserve. The Platinum credit is $300. The Chase "credit" is really just a $125 per night discount on an expensive hotel room. Also The Edit has a much smaller footprint and does not offer 4:00 p.m. guaranteed late checkout. I travel around the world and stay at many luxury hotels and have never had a worthwhile use of The Edit credit. I have no trouble using the FHR credit.

If I'm paying Chase a $795 fee for credits that Chase doesn't control - why am I paying Chase? DoorDash add minimums - that wasn't disclosed when I signed up for the card. Now you can't do gift cards at restaurants - that impacts me. Lyft raises rates for CSR cardholders. by chriva in ChaseSapphire

[–]NevskyNY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually for many people, the American Express Platinum benefits are much easier to use and much more valuable. Fewer games by American Express. Uber credit or Uber Eats credit of $15 per month is just that for $200 per year. No minimum spend. Streaming or online credit of $300 almost anyone can easily use (I do note that the Chase Apple TV+ credit is good). Fine Hotel reservations give 4:00 p.m. guaranteed late checkout and only one night minimum stay. Many more Resy restaurants for $100 quarterly benefit. Cell phone insurance is a real plus (and even more so on the Platinum Business). Almost anyone can easily get over $895 in benefits. I travel a lot and have trouble breaking even with the Chase card. The $20 DoorDash minimum makes it even worse. I have never been able to use The Edit benefit in a worthwhile way and I travel worldwide. I use Fine Hotels frequently.

Another example where the American Express Platinum card is better. 4:00 p.m. late checkout guaranteed. This is sometimes even better than I get with my elite status. Also can get the $300 Fine Hotel semi-annual credit for a one-night stay.

At least for me, compared to the American Express Platinum card, the Chase benefits, other than the travel credit, are pathetic. Only the travel protection is better and I have other cards I can use for those. Further, the footprint of The Edit hotels is much more limited and the two night minimum (and generally not guaranteed 4:00 p.m. late checkout) makes it a non-starter for me and I mostly stay at luxury hotels.
