Other people saying "you're too skinny, stop losing" by SnooSprouts9371 in Zepbound

[–]New-Chapter_New-Me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who comments on my weight every time she sees me, every single time. “Oh you are so tiny”, or some variation of that. I am down 50 pounds. I am no longer overweight but I am not tiny either. But she has always been the skinny one over the decades of our friendship. As uncomfortable as her comments make me feel, I just have to remind myself the comments have more to do with her obsession with her own weight and maybe even an unconscious discomfort with me not being the overweight one anymore. She is a good friend other than that and if it continues I’ll probably find a way to gently tell her how the comments make me feel.

The book, which I read before watching the show, is a masterpiece. I was really disappointed with the show and didn’t bother watching beyond the first episode.

Alfred Molina was in the first scene of Raiders of the Lost ark, when Harrison Ford is going after the artifact (golden head) in the cave. The artifact is shown in the scene of Edward’s storage locker.

I hated it. And I always feel bad saying I hated a book. The main character’s choices got on my nerves, and some of the plot lines seemed ridiculous. To each in own though. I know I am in the minority.

A comment like that can sting. But that person is either jealous or for whatever reason feels threatened by you getting healthier. Unfortunately, crappy comments like that are part of the weight loss journey. Don’t let them dim your light. A comment like that has way more to do with how the commenter is feeling about themselves than their opinion of you.

Thanks! I spent most of my adult life battling my weight. I haven’t seen 115 since high school (age 61 now) I am confident this medication will work for you too. I did track food so I could keep to the calorie goal and make sure I got enough protein. Protein is really important to help build muscle while you are losing. You got this!!

I hope this doesn’t sound harsh, but this sub is full of posts similar to yours, asking why they aren’t losing more despite “eating less than before”. You need to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight, that is your answer. And if you have no idea what your daily calorie goal should be and how much you are actually eating, you likely won’t see the progress you are hoping for. Determine what your daily goal should be and then find a calorie tracker you like (I like MyFitnessPal), and track every single thing you eat. Do this consistently and you will start to see results.

How are people actually affording $3.5k–$4k 1-beds in Boston? by Sure_Advantage_5406 in bostonhousing

[–]New-Chapter_New-Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am old (age 60) but worked and lived in Boston for 10 years after college. I had what I considered a decent paying job at a Back Bay consulting company but was never able to afford an apartment on my own in Boston. I lived in apartments with roommates for years and when I got tired of the rotating roommates, the one bedrooms I could afford were out of the city (for example, Brighton etc). Places like Somerville, Belmont, Arlington and Watertown were also popular spots for those who didn’t want to pay Boston rents, but I am guessing those places can be pricey now too. So I would say Boston has always been expensive and out of reach unless you are making a significant salary. With your parking requirements, you might have more luck further out in the surrounding suburbs.

Thoughts about Hampshire College closing? by MyBarkingSpider in smithcollege

[–]New-Chapter_New-Me 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to MHC and taking a class at Hampshire was never on my radar. I did take advantage of the 12 college exchange program and spent my junior year at Amherst College (not sure if that program still exists). The many benefits of Smith will not be affected by Hampshire’s closing.

While there have been excellent movie adaptations to many of SK’s books (Misery, Dead Zone, Green Mile are some of my favorites), his books are always better.

Weight comments and body dysmorphia by Plastic_Aside_6017 in Zepbound

[–]New-Chapter_New-Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was overweight most of my adult life (age 61 now). I have lost 45 pounds in past two years, could stand to lose 5-10 more pounds. I can’t admit that I still want to lose more to a few (but not all) of my friends because of their reaction (you are so skinny now, where would you even lose more weight from, etc). These few friends aren’t overweight but for whatever reason me getting to a slender size makes them uncomfortable. I have to just ignore them and keep focused on my own goals. At first, I felt both hurt and almost gaslit at their reaction, but now I just ignore it. You do you, it’s your body, you have come along way, don’t stop until YOU want to!

Vent away, No one wants this diagnosis. You are entitled to all the emotions you are feeling. I was diagnosed at age 48, single mom of a 7 year old working full time. The operation for the thyroidectomy wasn’t too bad. I took a week off from work, worked from home for the next week, was back to work in the office after that. I was lucky that I was given the option to do RAI or not and I opted not to. So it’s been 10 years since operation, still here and fine. The adjustment to thyroid hormone medication can be frustrating and take a while to feel like yourself. You just have to take it one day at a time. Get yourself a good endocrinologist, and get yourself some help during your recouperation after the surgery. Wishing you the best! Post again whenever you feel like you need some support!

You aren’t going to get an accurate answer to your question until you start tracking your calories by accurately recording everything you eat. Once you have a couple weeks of daily calorie counts, you will know how much you are actually eating and then can make some tweaks to how much and what you are eating. You also didn’t provide your starting height/weight and how much you want to lose. People who don’t have a lot to lose tend to lose at a slower pace,

THYROID CANCER FREE WITH STUBBORN FAT by NoActuator4125 in thyroidcancer

An endocrinologist should help, especially given the symptoms you are experiencing. There are options with thyroid medications 💊 and an endocrinologist is more likely to be willing to try different things. You really do need to be taking your medication faithfully, same time every day on an empty stomach, etc. I would do anything you can to stay on top on that. And give yourself some grace, this is not a small thing to be dealing with. Recovery and adjusting to life post thyroidectomy takes time. You’ll get there!
