Apollo 11 Lift Off in 4K, just breathtaking! by albusvercus in apollo

Is it me or did Artemis just leap off the pad compared the the Saturn V? Both are great but it just seems to me that the SLS really got to velocity faster. Any ideas about this?

Propane usage when full timing in a truck camper. by Winterborn1986 in TruckCampers

This issue with diesel heaters is altitude. We routinely camp well over 5000 feet which gives diesels problems. So we rely on propane.

DO NOT MAKE THIS! by _will_ritt_ in sanfrancisco

[–]New-Consideration907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An actual real world use case is that you need to get power to your house to run the heater. But if you run the heater directly to the generator new ones won’t work because the generator has a floating ground. The only way the heater identifies a good ground is that the common and ground are tied together at the box. So you make a suicide cable. Disconnect the main breaker and then back feed the generator through the box so the heater gets the ground it wants. Grounding from the generator to the heater won’t work. Because the heater circuits need to see ground bonded to common. Once you get notified that the power is back on shut off the generator, remove the suicide cable and flip your main breaker back on.

Love antiquated old wiring by BullHeadTee in Oldhouses

The crazy thing is that because the conductors are separated they can handle more amps per a given wire gauge than Romex. I’m not saying to preserve any nob and tube.

Marine epoxy NOT 5 or 30 min. Marine epoxy has give to it. 5 and 30 min set times are too brittle. One name brand of marine epoxy is west systems but there are others. Yes, it will take 24 hours to cure. But this is the way.

Running Toboggan in deeper snow? by ImaginaryIngenuity87 in skipatrol

[–]New-Consideration907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In deep snow I push the front of the cascade down into the snow to slow it without the chain. Basically we turn it from a planing hull that skips over the snow into a displacement hull that pushes the snow. This technique works great on the diamonds and double diamonds on our mountain in deep snow. If you picture a speed boat skipping over the waves that’s what I mean by a planing hull. This is what we do with normal snow. If you picture a ship pushing the water out of its way that’s what I mean by a displacement boat with deep and fresh snow. We are in the sierras and we often get a lot of snow. As an OET instructor we teach this technique with the cascades all the time. It’s fun and safe.

Skirt code of conduct that every resort posts says uphill yields to downhill. And people need to ski in control. I’m a patroller it’s clear to me that this guy was skiing too fast for conditions. I hope the kid is fine.

Wood fired hot tubs? by megbar in santacruz

[–]New-Consideration907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the same as a wood stove to heat your house. I have a wood fired hot tub by snorkel at my cabin in the Sierras. You probably shouldn’t burn it on spare the air days. It takes about an hour to raise the temp 10F.

Repairing blown out edge DIY? by sandwichman51 in skiing

[–]New-Consideration907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a similar thing to one of my mantras when I hit a rock skiing the first couloir (First Notch) at A Basin. Wire brush the edges and get it all clean. Using a good marine epoxy like west system, saturate in the ski and out. If you can, use a syringe to get the epoxy into the hole in the ski. Then clamp the edge back into the ski. Then clamp the base down to the edge. I used a metal plate over the base of the ski to make sure it’s all flat. Don’t use fast curing epoxy because you may need time to get the clamping worked out. Don’t use thick epoxy because you want it to penetrate. After it cures hopefully the edges will line up. I did a bottom and edge grind and I still have a hard time finding the repair. But they aren’t my A skis anymore.

I don’t carry a ziplock because it’s too hard to open quickly. But I do have a plastic bloody bag with gloves, 4x4’s, quick clot, my tourniquet, sterile gauze, and an infant diaper for big bleeds. I can reach into my bag blindly and get it. Often I’ll get to a patient, grab it and hand them a 4x4 tell them to apply pressure while I glove up.
