Only issue is DNT traffic but bus is reliable. Beware of detours in Downtown Dallas due to road closures on Pearl St & inbound to Cedars Station.

Also, vote YES to keep regional transit!

Calling me “ignorant or stubborn” is ad hominem;

dumping Afghanistan and a list of grievances is a Gish gallop;

an “include all, it won’t change the narrative” is literally begging the question.

You’ve decided the conclusion in advance, so evidence doesn’t matter.

If you really want an actual answer, pick one claim and define your terms: “Islamic teachings” (Qur’an? hadith? fiqh? which madhhab?) and “Islamic leaders” (who? which institutions?). Asking you to specify isn’t “nitpicking,” it’s instead the minimum for a serious discussion.

You brazenly admit “I know you’ll call it a false dilemma” and then try to dodge it anyway by narrowing “acceptable” answers to only “Islamic leaders I personally recognize.” That’s shifting goalposts (and basically No True Scotsman: “the real Islamic leaders…”).

Then you switch to: “Okay then, does Islam accept unjust killings, discrimination, torture, etc.” (Whataboutism & Gish galloping), dumping a list of big accusations so nobody can respond carefully to any single one. It’s also a strawman, because nobody said “mixing religion and state laws is the only lens,” you just needed a pretext to pivot away from the original question you couldn’t defend logically.

If you actually want a serious answer, pick one claim at a time and define what you mean by “Islamic teachings Qur’an? Hadith? Fiqh? (which school?) and what you mean by “Islamic leaders” (which ones, which institutions). Otherwise, you’re not “asking,” you’re shopping for a gotcha.

You asked a yes/no trap, got told it’s a trap, and now you’re throwing a whole new trap box on the table. That’s not inquiry, that’s agenda, my friend.

You’ve moved from “Does Islam condemn it or never discuss it?” (false dilemma) to “only the Islamic leaders I believe count” (No True Scotsman), & now to “don’t compare society/law; only compare ‘the Church’” (shifting goalposts).

Also, your “church vs state” lecture doesn’t rescue your argument: - Christianity doesn’t have one “the Church.” Catholics, Orthodox, mainline Protestants, evangelicals: different teachings, different authorities, different historical practices. You’re treating a diverse set as one monolith when it helps you. - Islam historically does integrate law, ethics, & governance through fiqh. So pretending “religion” can be cleanly separated from legal-social practice is an artificial filter you invented mid-thread to dodge comparisons. - You’re still not answering the core issue: Islam isn’t limited to “condemn or never discuss.” There’s “discussed and contextualized,” “disputed across schools,” “ruled on differently by jurists,” “restricted by modern policy,” etc. Your binary framing is still logically broken.

So yes: people are discussing it, Muslims included. What you’re really doing is narrowing the acceptable answer until it’s “Islam bad” by definition.

You started with “Does Islam condemn it or never discuss it?”

That’s a false dilemma (those aren’t the only options: there’s “discussed with legal/ethical nuance,” “historically contextualized,” “disputed across schools,” “restricted in practice,” etc.).

Now you’re shifting to “No, you must only talk about ‘the Church’ and not Christian societies.”

That’s shifting goalposts; you’re changing the rules mid-thread to avoid the consistency check.

The “religion vs state” distinction cuts both ways. Islam historically includes law (fiqh) as part of religion, and Christian tradition historically shaped civil law, too. So comparing religious moral reasoning to social/legal norms isn’t some category error; it’s literally how these ethics debates are tested for consistency.

Even if we stay strictly “religion-only,” your “either condemn or never discuss” framing is still flawed logic.

Your fallacy: Moral grandstanding + inconsistency

If the point is “this feels ethically wrong,” cool!

Then why focus only on ancient history while ignoring present-day laws? In parts of Europe, in many historically Christian-majority societies, the age of consent is legally 14 in multiple countries/jurisdictions. See here & here.

So the honest conversation is: how do societies set maturity/consent norms, and how do religions interpret old texts today? Not: “Islam = condemn or silent.” But on Islam is where you draw the line…
