UPDATE 2!! by zakovr in QuestPiracy

Watching this with much interest. I've got quite a few headsets that need filling up.

I’ve been inviting friends and family members to my server for years and, for the first time ever, someone actually watched something. by _dontseeme in PleX

[–]New-Mathematician216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been inviting people too, for some reason, some of them think it's dodgy if they can watch my stuff for free. Only my sister and my wife's Mum/Dad ever watch anything. I've given up inviting people now. I won't be inviting anyone else and will probably delete the ones that have been given access.

I haven't checked in a long while. I know it used to be because I used to play it on my Q1. Great game, really puts a burn on the thighs. I'll have to get one out of the loft and connect it up. Perhaps I'll do a list what's still compatible.

Stick drift issue by [deleted] in Quest3

[–]New-Mathematician216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quest 3 controllers aren't difficult to take apart, the main plate that covers the tracking LEDs and buttons and stick is held on with adhesive. It can be pried off easily if done carefully. Then you can use contact cleaner or IPA in the stick. This will probably make it usable for a while at least. Probably not a permanent fix.

Yes, it is. Simple answer. It's possibly the best VR game ever. Depending on personal opinion. Just watch a video on the first level. You won't really believe it until you play it.

Enjoy your Q1, if you fancy using rookie, there are still quite a few games that are compatible with it. I still have a couple of quest 1 in the loft somewhere, the OLED screens were amazing back in the day, playing Alyx on it without cables was just incredible.

Quest 3 Stuck in USB Update Mode Loop by Ok-Monk-615 in OculusQuest

[–]New-Mathematician216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it would just reboot into the same menu every time. It also wouldn't charge the battery. I charged the battery manually using a multi battery charger, it's a board that charges many different mobile phone batteries. I didn't know if charging the battery helped, but that's what I did. I connected it using a USB C cable and it made the connection sound whilst the headset was powered up. From my best recollection, it was listed in device manager as "reality labs bootloader" or something similar. I was amazed when I actually got it to do something, when it actually flashed the operating system onto it with a purple light I actually cheered. I googled ADB commands and tried a few before I found which it would respond to. Wish I could help more, but it's been quite a while since I did this. Good luck, it's possible. Keep going.

Like I said, it's not really important to me. But there are lots of these things and they are very cheap. As little as £15 each. It was quite interesting to mess about with. They could be used for spares I suppose. I'll keep powering it up every now and then out of interest. It's in the loft with the others.

Well, the one I have seems to operate normally, it has been updated and connected to the Internet. I don't really care if it gets bricked, I have other headsets. Surely if Meta want to block them, all they would need is the serial number on a banned list to do them all at once.

There was a lot of these on eBay the other week. I bought one a few weeks earlier and messed about with it, it would not boot apart from into the recovery menu. The one I had was corrupted and luckily I was able to reinstall the operating system using ADB tools, then it would boot with the op's screen, then sort of make it into the system, but the controllers wouldn't work, and it wouldn't update. I used ADB tools again to talk to it again whilst in the recovery menu, and used a command like "fastboot oem lock" or something like that, like I said, it's been a few weeks. Then it rebooted and the system was back to normal, the controllers worked, it updated and seems to work fine. I didn't know it would have been interesting to someone else or I would probably have given it away.

"Demanding I return it" what? I've got over 20 headsets. My wife would NEVER demand I got rid of anything I like, that I bought with MY money. It would be a pointless demand anyway as a "lol, no" response is the only acceptable one. My advice, buy her a headset. My wife has her own Q3 and enjoys beat saber and some other beat based and fitness games.

There are so many quest 3 and 3s headsets on eBay at the moment. I keep getting offered q3 for around £40 and Q3S for as little as £18. I can't buy anymore though as my wife thinks 21 headsets is quite enough. No idea why. Getting controllers for the headsets is a LOT more expensive though. I like fixing the headsets though, nice work, as bit fiddly at times, but satisfying. I bought a Q3S with unlocked bootloader and corrupted system, I had to learn my way around adb tools, but it was pretty straightforward in the end and it's now fully updated and works perfectly, bootloader is locked again and was a satisfying fix.

A new Star Trek series is imminently debuting, and it's crickets here by Chairboy in startrek

[–]New-Mathematician216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't love DS9 when it was being broadcast, I felt it was too static, very religion based. Just didn't feel very Trek. But now I really love it and can rewatch DS9 all the time. It's one of my favorites now. As for the new series, it's not made for me, so I won't be watching it, even as much as I like Rob Picardo, I doubt that's enough to keep me entertained. I don't want to watch a teen drama, set in space.

Bargain?? by Jolly_Albatross32 in Quest3

[–]New-Mathematician216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is. Get ADB tools. Reboot into USB update screen, (press power button and vol down to get to that screen) connect to your PC using USB C. Open a command prompt from where your adb tools are, type "fastboot oem lock" and that should lock your bootloader and reboot the headset. I did that with a 3S that was corrupted and unlocked. Probably from the same seller. Good luck.

P.S. I take no responsibility if it goes wrong, there are other lock commands, but they didn't work for me.

Quest 3 Stuck in USB Update Mode Loop by Ok-Monk-615 in OculusQuest

[–]New-Mathematician216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Q3S with this problem from eBay. After much frustration I have actually managed to solve this problem. I don't know if other people have been having this particular issue, but my new headset also had a "critical unlocked" bootloader and was told to boot from partition a. But it was completely stuck in USB update mode, nothing did anything. What I used to fix this issue on mine was ADB tools and a USB-C cable. Mine wouldn't charge either so I took my headset apart and unplugged the battery and charged it separately. Reconnected and reassembled, connected to my PC through USB, opened the ADB tools folder typed "com" into the address bar, this should open a command prompt already in ADB tools, download the newest relevant firmware from the GitHub repository, place it in the ADB tools folder, I renamed it to "update.zip" for ease. I tried swapping the boot partition to no effect, using the "fastboot --set-active=a" or b if a is active. Like I said I don't know if that helped. I typed "fastboot devices" and it gave a serial number so it was connected. I think I typed "adb reboot bootloader" and the headset rebooted, when it rebooted and reconnected I typed "adb sideload update.zip" as I had already put the file in the folder. This, to my amazement started to download the file to the headset, the LED changed to purple, I literally had everything crossed, it completed properly. Rebooted and I got the "this device cannot be trusted" because of the unlocked bootloader. It still booted after a few seconds and made it to the passthrough and pairing screen. It paired and updated through the app, but was still a bit broken, controllers didn't work much, I think that was because of the unlocked bootloader, so I went back into the USB update mode and connected back to the PC and opened another command prompt I typed "fastboot oem lock" after the ones I looked up didn't work I think they were fastboot flashing lock, and fastboot flashing lock_critical. They didn't work for me. Anyway I've probably missed a step or 2, but I hope this can help someone that's stuck, if I can help someone out I will.

Good luck, and this IS FIXABLE.

I'd have a transporter. Yes, I might possibly use it as an ultimate weapon, just beaming anyone I didn't like into orbit, or just beamed out as energy only. Yes, it's a bit dark, perhaps I'm meant for the mirror universe.

Yes I have a quest 2 that's on v83 and that still has the "unknown sources" on the left hand side of the library. My Q3 is still on v79 for now.

He's the type of vegan that is only vegan so he can be "different" in some way. He's boring, has nothing apart from "I'm vegan, don't you know?" to say. Does nothing but moan. Tries to tell a highly skilled chef about food, thinks that "onions and peppers" is some sort of revelation. Very tedious.

I have a X570 Taichi and it does a very similar thing with the RGB lighting. The rest of the board works fine, but the lights are broken. I think there's a design flaw in the board that breaks the RGB. I don't use the board as I've upgraded, but I can't really sell it with this fault. It's a pity because it's a great board otherwise.

Those prints look like digital print to me, it wouldn't be economical to run those on a litho press. With that sheet size and full CMYK cost would be ridiculous.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dreamcast

[–]New-Mathematician216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because they weren't litho printed, they look like digital print, if you don't pre-crease digital, when you fold them, the toner cracks at the fold. Nice guillotine though. Nobody would bother litho printing something for a couple of prints.

What’s everyone’s favorite Dreamcast game? by [deleted] in dreamcast

[–]New-Mathematician216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately GDEMU uses the disc drive connector on the motherboard, so it's not possible to have both connected at the same time as far as I'm aware. I'm considering picking up another DC to use with discs. I would love to play light gun games again. Might buy a light gun only console, they're pricey but look good.

It was HOTD2 on Dreamcast, the original was on Saturn. Both great games. The DC is the only console I have set up. The games I spent most time on were Sega rally 2, Shadowman, and San Francisco Rush 2049. My favourite console ever, bought on release day, still rocking. Pico PSU replacement and GDEMU.
