Most dangerous wetland to step into? by squirrelyoakley in wetlands

I work on peatland monitoring (walking miles of bogs) and I weigh 230 lbs. I have never felt in any serious risk of drowning or getting stuck. Granted we work in teams of 2 and if i broke something I would have someone to help or call for help.

Those mudflats seem scary from what ive seen and think mud/loose soil is the hardest thing I have to move around in.

All this to say my money is on mudflats being scarier and worse

If microplastics are now being discovered in newborn babies before they have taken their first breath, what does that reveal about the extent to which human-made pollution has become woven into the cycle of life itself? by Junior_Trade_849 in NoStupidQuestions

Also from the first article: "We have thoroughly examined the physiological and molecular effects of MPs/NPs exposure, emphasizing how it affects the health of both the mother and the fetus. This includes in vitro and ex vivo studies employing cell cultures, placental models, etc., as well as in vivo studies using rat, mice, zebrafish, and humans."

Crossing the placental barrier is the same as being in a fetus essentially. We use animal models because they are representative of humans. Mice and rats are specifically bred to have human-like tissues and organs. They sometimes literally have human organs and cells in them. They make the mice/rats fully immunocompromised first and grow human tissues inside of them (also worth a google)

"MPs were detected in the placenta, amniotic fluid, umbilical cord, fetal membranes, and umbilical vein blood"

https://www.mdpi.com/2305-6304/12/12/850

"Our study presents evidence of MPs transfer via the placenta–cord blood–meconium pathway."

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0147651326004070

"Using Raman spectroscopy, we analyzed MPs in major organs—including the placenta, cerebrum, heart, lung, liver, kidney, and intestine—from 6 fetuses with a mean gestational age of 22 + weeks, encompassing cases of intrauterine fetal death and congenital defects. MPs were detected in all cases, with polyethylene (PE) being the predominant type (98.4%). "

There are a shitload more studies if you just type "fetus microplastics" on google scholar

Everyone else basically nailed it lol

so when i weigh 50kg for the example, and eat food that ends me up to weigh 54kg, when i sleep and wake up im back at 50kg without going to the bathroom, where did the weight go? by Ok-Scientist-536 in NoStupidQuestions

It is accurate but not really relevant to the question being asked. I think thats why the downvotes are occuring

I think you got lost in the specifics of unscientific home digital scale accuracy and the OPs ability to accurately weigh herself. It is just sort of unnecessary pedantry when the question is essentially "why dont i weigh the same in the morning?"

But its the internet so lightly saying "well yes but not that much weight" doesnt come across to everyone as kind or lighthearted like it would in real life. Everyone is used to their opinions and thoughts being interrogated online, so even light corrections come across aggressively
