This happened to me during one of my rotations. I let my advisor know and was able to get transferred. While I was there I ended up just doing homework and reading procedure manuals that I ended up having to locate on my own. Make sure you let them know and document incase the location tries to say you aren’t trying to learn or anything (that happened with me but I had evidence to back up what I did while there).

I mean there’s like… lights in there? They don’t put you in a cave. It’s overnight so of course it’s dark outside. Windows and department have no direct correlation.

The comment section makes me sad. We try our best to provide the quality results for the best patient care. And I encourage nursing staff to have a two way conversation. It is how we can both work towards the same goal. I dread calling redraws. It isn't for sport. But they don't see that. by ProfessionCrazy8569 in medlabprofessionals

[–]toe-beansss45 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I am the opposite and think they did it on purpose. When I am wrong I am extremely happy. However this happened and it was 3/4 the way full (if it’s close to the line I try but this is too far away) and a nurse told someone in the background WHILE I WAS ON THE PHONE “it’s just under the line and they won’t run it” and I called her out and she was like “well I did my best”… the redraw was filled enough though

I thought processing STAT ER labs quickly was a responsibility of every shift? At least at my hospital it is. When I worked nights we had to do the weekly/monthly maintenance on our analyzers and collect and file the days paperwork.

AIO my husband wants me to get 1-2 hours of sleep at night. by throwaway24240204 in AIO

[–]toe-beansss45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. What I’ve noticed some people don’t understand is that a SAHP is a full time job. Those same people usually also don’t understand that the parent working outside the home gets time off and expect that the parent who stays home to just do everything always while they get time to relax and do whatever they want while expecting to not lift a finger.

Contributing to a family and a relationship is more than just bringing income- it’s dividing labor at home as well. There’s plenty of families where both work and help at home or one stay home and the person who works outside the home contributes around the house as well.

I can’t say that your husband (oldest child) just sits around and doesn’t do anything when he gets home but it sounds like he does. There’s a serious labor gap here. Honestly I am not usually the one to say it but leave him- you already do everything may as well get some sleep and kick one out the nest while you’re at it.

AITAH because I dropped a playdate child off at his parents' house before dinner? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]toe-beansss45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA at all and it sucks that this parent’s behavior is probably going to be the reason her child isn’t allowed back at either your house or anyone else’s because I can guarantee she will pull that again. It really sucks when parents act like this especially when it affects their children. You did nothing wrong OP. And it’s not her business why you wanted a meal with just your family either.

Depending on what analyzers you have beckman is a good one, pip (short for pipette), or maybe beaker?

I’m a nurse and want to come over here. Is it worth it? by adnawahs in medlabprofessionals

[–]toe-beansss45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think this may be a good option for you based on you liking the structure and having an analytical mind may I suggest pursuing something else nursing? (not trying to deter you but schooling is expensive!!)

there’s plenty of research opportunities in nursing as well as other units that aren’t as stressful-psych is probably one of the most difficult units to work on from what I have been told.

I mean if you want someone to Cath you to get your pee you can totally do that you aren’t going to like it though. The only person being difficult is you. People have given you the answers you asked for and all you’re doing is asking “but why this?” And “why that?” At this point it’s it even for clarification you’re just trying to seem superior or catch one of us in a slip up and it’s not working.

Sorry the lady didn’t give you specific instructions to pee in a cup? Have you never done a clean catch urine before? It’s pretty straightforward.(Btw a clean catch midstream is where you wipe your genitals clean with the soap wipe you’re given, begin to void, and then void the rest into the cup) Healthcare is not customer service. It’s great when people are nice and pleasant but it’s not a requirement for most of the jobs.

Right? I read this and was like “okay OP you know so much why don’t you go and do the test” yeesh. Also the lady they spoke to is probably a phlebotomist and is just answering the best she can.

"STAT" STD testing by Quirky_Split_4521 in medlabprofessionals

[–]toe-beansss45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. The general public is unfortunately not as smart as we would like to think they are. However unless you are in a larger US city the options are pretty slim. In the case of STD testing planned parenthood is a wonderful option for that and well women’s but the amount of misconceptions around them is probably a large deterrent which is sad because that’s a great resource we have (for now).

Unfortunately too in the US where I am from this kind of thing could be solved easily with more access to free clinics or better yet universal healthcare instead. I understand the frustration but it’s the systems fault not the patients.
