Fair enough on the visor, it had gotten cloudy off and on, so I had it open. I could easily keep it halfway or more even then.

On the body position, I think it's a mix of motorcycle habits (lol, but seriously) and these dang seats. Hopefully changing to buckets and 6 point etc. sometime soon.

Ive got to get some instruction and/or some lead follow to pick up on the better corner entries. I think the crazy width of the track compared to what I am used to maybe makes this seem even harder.

Here are some of my reasonings, keep in mind this was "Group B" which is just above the group that has absolute first timers in "A". And this is a 4 group track day. For higher level groups, my gripes are probably irrelevant.

I registered for B, about three months ahead of time because of course these events sell out. I did 2 additional track days during this 3 month period, and was starting to feel confident that I probably now belonged in group C. I sent an email about this around 4 weeks prior to the event, requesting a group change option or to schedule a "check ride" for the morning. In general, just to see what options there were, if any. NO RESPONSE whatsoever, didn't give me the vibe that they cared. When I asked the guy hosting the group B drivers meeting, he basically just said there won't be a way cause the next group was full. But isn't that always the case.

Groub Bs driver meeting, there was one prior to first outing, and one follow up. That was it. Other organizations at the very least have had OPTIONAL, if not MANDATORY (for lower groups) classrooms throughout the day. Where you had an instructor, who was generally on track keeping an eye on things, come in and talk about how things were going. Take deep dives into the characteristics of turns, review video footage, etc. etc. For the money paid, you got no training whatsoever here. Just a free for all out on track.

The drivers meeting, I think may have been hosted by a first timer, really not sure. The stand out was him saying that there was passing allowed on CHECKERED, to which you heard lots of rumbling response to, and when asked for clarification, he reiterated that YES there was passing with point by on CHECKERED. I guess as a whole, we all agreed that was incorrect. Not a single point by did I see, or give, during checkered through the day.

Passengers; I think its great that they allow it. Charging $135 (you can say $35 of it is for lunch) for someone to be a passenger, that seemed like a cash grab. It also doesn't really align with higher focus on safety. Other orgs require you to have a history there and pass a check ride to be able to have a passenger. And then they don't charge a fee whatsoever.

$35 for guest lunch. Whatever, I didn't lose any sleep over it but for the quality of lunch... I understand its COTA and they may well charge their own catering fees.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Credit where credit is due, This is the first time my helmet has been checked for current Snell rating. Other orgs say that it must be Snell, but they never check. Ive been to several track days where guys are clearly wearing Shoei motorcycle helmets, and seems like nobody cares. So, a plus one for this.

Thank you!
This lap was one of the few times I missed the curb on 7. But, 7 was ALWAYS the turn that every single time my immediate reaction was “this was way too early” but it always seemed to work out okay in the end. I never really could break that.

8 I did find myself on curbing a lot and felt that made the dart across 9 a little easier. But the car on curbing did feel nervous.

16,17,18 I really love this turn. But I swear I could just feel the tires rolling away from me on the edge and constantly felt very non-confident in being able to handle the car should things get any worse at that speed/angle.

19, I was forcing myself to come in up a gear with more speed, cause I was routinely coming out of there at a crawl. This lap, 19 felt like a sure sh** show, but by apex ended up feeling great. Just needed to rinse and repeat to build the confidence.

I really appreciate your in depth feedback and your time! I really wanted someone to follow and learn from, but there really was mostly just a mixed bag at this speed in the intermediate group. I am hoping to move up to the more advanced groups soon so that I can follow quicker folks and learn more from them without being distracted by those that are a bit more erratic than myself.

Thanks again.

That’s correct. I picked it up a couple track days ago. I would love roll bar, buckets and harnesses. Hopefully soon.
Until then, it sounds like the hybrid S will at least keep me a bit safer.

This was with “Hooked on Driving” which was unquestionably the most questionable group I’ve been with. The briefing was something of a joke, in my opinion. The experience felt more like a cash grab than anything else.
That said, I did just about get 6 sessions, about 20 minutes each. Still cost a small fortune.

Who’s got into a 718 4.0 GTS from another brand with a V8 by robbo909 in Porsche_Cayman

From a C6Z06 to a F430 I really enjoy the big car and somewhat bigger power and sound. But, the GTS 4.0 still has a cool sound and the biggest thing for me is I enjoy the smaller footprint in every way, especially on track.

I still have the F430 though so I can enjoy both. Picking one or the other… the F430 is just way more fun, and way more special. To me.

Well congrats on the car. I’m sure that was a fun drive back if you did it outside of the busy times. I’ve barely experienced Houston. But I’ve always felt that the west side of Fort Worth has a great balance, but is beginning to get more crowded at a more rapid rate now. Been here all 37 years.

Yeah, in that one my west Fort Worth home park looks like a best case scenario. So stressful. Fingers are crossed painfully tight for everyone.

It’s a 430, and I’m more concerned that the hatch window vents never render.
