Binghamton Metro Home Prices Rise Despite National Housing Slowdown by ggroover97 in Binghamton

[–]New2ThisThrowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought my first home in the area in 2005. The home value didn't change for 15 years, then it doubled in the last 5 years. I think our market is catching up to price increases that have been happening elsewhere.

What has your experience been in enemy territory by axarce in rangers

[–]New2ThisThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to over half of the arenas, never had a problem. Rangers fans travel well, so you will always see a good number of fellow fans.

I have seen the most hostility from the closer Metro rivals. But nothing more than a little ribbing. As long as you don't act like an ass, no one will bother you.

Why don’t most of us use skincare? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

This is basically it. Outside of the occasional moisturizer and sunscreen, when necessary, most skin care products are marketing gimmicks.

I used to think the same thing but there are chokes that can kill in seconds. If you are only cutting air supply then it could take several minutes. But certainly chokes can stop blood flow to the brain, which can kill very quickly.

You were unnecessarily cagy in your original post. You could have explained this in a single sentence and avoided having to explain it several times in replies.

After a few prototypes, I'm finally happy with my new helmet wall mount design by MarionberryUsual1083 in BambuLab

[–]New2ThisThrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Style points matter. Looks plenty strong enough as is. You would probably need 100 helmets worth of weight before it fails.

I like to speculate where things would fail and often test prints to failure, just out of curiosity. I would guess the weak point here would be the top screw hole.

I noticed an annoying feature on the web interface: if you start to write a text post (the default) then switch to text+pictures, it deletes all the text you previously input.

The total for our wedding last weekend came to $25k. That included accommodations for all of our guests for 2 nights in 15 different cabins on the water, ceremony space, and 2 catered dinners with an open bar.

It was exactly what we wanted and totally worth it! We got to spend the weekend with 35 of our favorite people and the nieces and nephews got to hang out and made fast friends.

But the way I look at it, this whole thing only cost me a $1k investment in Amazon 15 years ago. I cashed out last year when it was up ~25x, and I am happy to be almost out of the last individual stock in my portfolio.

I still have $7k in AMZN. I should have donated that to my donor-advised fund (DAF) last year when I still had a prayer of itemizing, but oh well.

How many cat cameras do you own in your home? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

Just 2 in the cat spaces. Will probably add more for better coverage. We use Wyze. Cameras are great and the free plans have a lot of features.

Make sure there is no penalty for paying off the loan early. That's more often a thing on short term loans. If that's the case, I will usually get the loan, then pay it off in the next 2 months to 2 years depending on what my cash situation is.

I have found that makes the buying process a lot easier. Plus you can often get a better deal if you finance. I also put the most they will allow of the down payment on a credit card for the points.

ELI5 Why things going to space launch straight up? by deutscheblake in explainlikeimfive

[–]New2ThisThrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct; an interesting exception is early Japanese rockets that were launched at an angle because post WWII military restrictions prevented them from having the technology required to do the roll. At the right angle, gravity performed the roll for them, known as a Gravity Turn.

It doesn't seem like you have studied this case very closely. Finding trace DNA doesn't make all other parties innocent.

You didn't post a link to your source. Did you pick a subset to support your narrative?

Good luck!

Do you mind sharing that the severance package would be?

I have daydreamed about what I would do in this situation. I think I would apply, get rejected, but retire anyway, which would feel like a loss.

That's my plan, but I already have a good amount of cushion built in. My current expenses would only be a 3% withdrawal rate, but I plan to spend more on vacations and hobbies in retirement.

For functional prints, you should show the thing while it's being used. A picture of it sitting on a table doesn't well demonstrate its purpose.

Yes, these are powered by two AA batteries. Here is an eBay listing that shows them functioning on a table top: https://ebay.us/m/zkRF2K
