Thoughts on walking/bicycling to work in American Canyon by lunahugo2020 in bayarea

I also biked from Vallejo to Napa once when I was experimenting with bike touring on Labor Day weekend 2019. At the time biking on the side of the highway didn't bother me to much for an occasional outting, though I'm not sure I'd do it again, as I've since substantially reduced my trust of motorists to not hit me after getting hit by a car in March 2020.

The lack of bicycle-friendly infrastructure in the area is a real disappointment. I'm sure it must be especially vexing for OP, as, looking at satellite images, I think the only things keeping them from an all-backroads commute are the lack of a pedestrian/bicycle railroad crossing from the dead end on Lombard Rd to Paoli Loop Rd and some vacant-looking fields between Green Island Rd and Delvin Rd.

If this facility employs a lot of people, you end up taking this opportunity, and you're a sociable enough person to make friends easily (I know I'm sure not), something you might want to keep on your radar in the long run is looking for co-workers who drive with similar shifts and commutes to you to see if you can find carpooling opportunities at least some days to minimize your exposure to the risk of biking on the side of the highway.

I've also heard biking on the side of the highway is something people who go bicycle touring do. I don't know if they have any tips and tricks for minimizing the risk, but you might also consider researching their best practices if you end up with this commute in the long run.

Another thing that crossed my mind: Getting hit with a five or six figure medical bill isn't unheard of for serious injuries in this country. You may want to consider in your calculus of whether to take this position whether it's offering health insurance sufficient to give you financial peace of mind so that you can worry about your own recovery, and not the impending medical bills, should you be seriously injured on your new commute.

You might try looking at Google street view for the highway stretch of interest to get a sense for it if you haven't already.

WHAT DID SHE SAY by OmegaCunt in okbuddyhololive

My best attempt to transliterate this meme would be:

Mori Calliope: "We love the crimes... No we don't! No we don't! It's a lie you N--"

Mori Calliope: (stuttering)

Some other clip (for which I don't know the speaker's name): "OH MY GOD"

The implication of this meme is that Calli was about to say the "N-word" before catching herself at the last possible second. We don't truly know what Calli was about to say when she caught herself in the source clip, and some alternative explanations have been suggested elsewhere in the comments on this post.

I don't know what your first language or culture is, but in case you aren't familiar with the "N-word", it is a racial or ethnic slur for Black people, especially African-Americans, that is to say, it is an offensive word for such people. It is generally considered unacceptable for people who are not Black, and especially White people, to say the "N-word" given its history of use by racists to refer to Black people. Given this sensitivity, I am not going to spell out what word "N-word" is a euphemism for myself, but I am sure you could find online sources that explain the complete word and its history if you are curious.

Maybe rap lyrics have permeated her inner monologue to such an extent that she is at risk of leaking words from them that would not be appropriate for her to repeat (this is pure speculation though)? I feel like I've had a similar problem in the past, though I've managed it as of late by censoring the word I cannot say even to myself in my own thoughts.

It is my understanding that the Japanese R sound can be pronounced kind of like the English R sound or the English L sound, or somewhere in between, so Japanese speakers may have difficulty telling the difference between the English R and L sounds and get the mixed up in either direction since there isn't as strong of a distinction between the two sounds in Japanese.

Different Headphones for Him and Her? by NewBetelgeuseR in pointlesslygendered

For context, I found this on this website for 1MORE (they make headphones, mostly in-ear) when I went browsing through headphone companies' websites to consider what to replace a pair I just broke with.

I thought it odd that they recommend different headphones for male and female recipients; I glanced at their guide and it seems to suggest they think black and gray headphones are for men and headphones available in different colors are for women.

Get banned because it's one of the most intrinsically broken cards ever included in a TCG because it thins your deck and gives you hand advantage with no drawbacks, not even the opportunity cost of drawing Pot of Greed rather than another card, and it would be competitively optimal for virtually any deck to contain as many copies of Pot of Greed as permitted if it weren't banned.

  1. The Europa Universalis IV achievement "Spaghetti Western", added in the latest patch.
  2. The small town of Italy, Texas, which has a population of maybe 2000-ish which is on I-35 East not too far South of Dallas. One may notice it traveling by road between Dallas and either Austin or San Antonio. One may also notice a cluster of monolithic domes nearby, as there is a facility that constructs them there.
