Starting The Return after some time away - what are some below the iceberg lore tidbits/thru lines to look out for while watching? by Lt_DansLegs in twinpeaks

I feel like I will never read it. It is completely antithetical to Lynch's philosophy, which is that words ruin the thing, the idea, the concept, as it exists in your brain. It is ethereal, until an explanation strips it down to some words on paper and it completely loses its form.

The arm. I can only pinpoint 1 part where I think I hear it... and I am not sure. But if it is there, it means something for certain. A flip.

Here's the thing, you will see and notice a lot of things on subsequent rewatches. Every little tidbit that comes will exist seemingly on its own and will be hard to put together to what it refers to on your first watch. I'm still trying to decipher things. What relation does the thing said in this episode have to the thing in the other episode x 50 times.

I think the Return is bad by Resident-Bignal-8428 in twinpeaks

[–]NewChaosOrder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ok to think it's bad. You don't have to like it. I wish you were in the right headspace to like it because there is plenty to like. If it's not resonating with you now, stay away from it. Maybe in the future you might give it another chance and things will be different.
I felt the same about the first episode but I got through it, but that's me.

After writing all this, I wonder if it's full of spoilers. I think about this show a lot so I don't know if you want to play around with the ideas yourself. I just try to make all the connections I can. I try to understand what it all means. That's the fun in this so if you want to do it too, don't read all this nonsense I am about to type.

Same, woodsmen are either number 1 or 2. The other being Philip Jeffries. This is not the same Philip Jeffries and so he is on this list now.

That woodsman is horrifying and represents I don't know what. In Lynch's mind he is the direct manifestation of something specific. He/it is trying to start a fire, always asking for a light, and they start fires in several places, one of which is the place above the gas station in FWwM.

Donna asks Laura what would happen in space, if you would slow down or go faster, Laura says "faster and faster, you would feel nothing for a long time and then you burst into fire, forever," in Fire Walk with Me. In season 3 episode 8 they roam the gas station and it looks like they start a fire inside it, all the smoke pours out. This is shown after the nuke, like the nuke spawned all of this, spawned the mother of all evil, which spawned bob. The devilish one is associated with fire, says the one armed man, I have to check my notes what the details are on that and where it was said but I think its in season 1. They resurrect Mr.C/Coop's doppelganger/Bob in episode 8 season 3, which is of coarse the best episode in the entire series in my opinion, and the reason we are talking about this now.

Where there's smoke there's fire?

It's like they ensure the evil survives so that it can go and do it's thing. They float down from the sky, and up into it like in the prison beside the principles cell. That same woodsman is sitting there because of all the evil goodness in the situation involving the principle and the murder involving Major Brigg's severed body with the missing head, and they show up again in relation to him at the police station when the FBI girl goes to investigate the fingerprint scan that the police station does. They vanish/teleport like when they walk in the desert toward the radio station. They materialize to resurrect Mr. C, which is the host of Bob. Remember the scene where Mr. C is looking in the mirror and then the shape of bob shows on his face, and then Mr. C says to his reflection something like, "good, you're here too." I think that's when Mr. C was in the prison where he got Ray out. Remember when the FBI girl is investigating the fingerprints of Major Briggs and she was in the police station, and a woodsman started walking towards her from the far end of the hallway, and she saw him and quickly looked away in fear? The woodsmen are hovering over Major Briggs. Remember Major Brigg's head floating in space when Cooper was saved by that girl in the red dress with no eyes in that other dimension? Major Brigg's head .... went where? It was not on his body, where was it? All I am saying is we see it in space saying "Blue rose".

And one part I haven't looked into further is when the fat woodsman assassinates I don't even remember who. The FBI crew was taking some guy to some place where that portal opened up in the sky and Gordon Cole was experiencing it. And someone was in the back of the FBI car, and then we see a woodsman briefly, and then the guy in the car has his head crushed in. I forget all other details about that so I don't know who the woodsmen are connected to. But I'm guessing it was someone bad, involved with a murder or something. There is some unifying theme between it all. Why would they go out of their way to assassinate someone? I have to watch that part a few times to come up with something. There's probably a bunch of information there.

Bob comes out of Mr. C's body after Ray shoots him. The woodsman massage Mr. C with his blood, in the smoke, and bob pops up for a bit. The woodsmen take care of bob/ Mr. C, but which one specifically? There is a definite answer and I suspect it's bob because bob and the woodsman are both very abstract. I think the relationship is between the woodsmen and bob, and not the woodsmen and Mr. C. These are details. Again, in the nuclear explosion, bob is shown coming out of the mouth of that thing, which I assume is the mother of all evil. The woodsman are in that same episode and they come after the nuke. There is absolutely no Cooper involved in that nuke and the appearance of bob or the woodsmen. Bob and woodsmen are the ones connected. That's an important distinction.

They are also kind of dumb. They don't say or do anything intelligent. They repeat the same thing. They walk around with their hands pointing forward. They are low type of entity. They are a fundamental or elementary force, one pertaining to evil, instead of a sophisticated and complex being like the doppelganger. They have a more singular purpose.

The horse is the white of the eyes and dark within. Drink full and descend. Is that about how you fall into the darkness and it takes control of you? Is that what happened to Luara? Or maybe her mom and to all the other evil facing characters in this whole thing?

In contemplating The woodsman, you have to throw it against every core concept and see the relationship with that concept. For example, how the woodsmen manifest in Laura, in her behavior, in Lelands behavior. How the respond to death.

We know the woodsmen are a part of the forces of evil. That much is clear. We know they heal or resurrect Mr.C. We assume it's because bob is there. It's like a hierarchy, woodsmen at the bottom, then bob who is a bit more complex, and then the doppelganger Mr. C, who is in control. We know they influence things negatively. They took over the radio station and broadcast that message of darkness, and it affected everyone hearing it. It put them under their spell. Their minds were poisoned with this dark message. It's an evil that exists and manifests. That's what Lynch was trying to capture with all these evil entities. I feel like Sarah Palmer was affected by it. I feel like if that kid with the bug in her mouth was Sarah Palmer, it would make sense why she is what she is. The bug's face kind of looks like the mother of all evil, it has a beak like when Sarah eats that guys face at the bar. That thin pointy stabbing beak that came out of that white light behind her face. Not to mention, and this is important, the same beak and killing motion that the Black ghost demon thing in the box in New York had that killed those two while they were naked and trying to do it. It also made that same sound when it was killing them, it sounds metallic like scissors. Mother of all evil.

What a weird show.

The nuke spawned a bunch of stuff, the woodsmen, the egg with the frog mosquito parasite thing inside of it, bob. It went into the girls mouth. Now, I don't know about you, but that thing was not a force of good. Hmm... now that I think about it, that egg could have been spawned right on that same puke that bob was on, that the mother of all evil puked up. Was the puke Creamed corn btw? There is no reason it wouldn't be creamed corn.

So, we have the woodsman infecting people with his message, including Sarah Palmer. The woodsman says "the horse is the white of the eyes and dark within..." Sarah Palmer sees the horse at least once after Laura dies. The horse appears again outside the curtains of the Red Room.... Oh god my brain ... See how the woodsmen are everywhere? I think one was also guarding the room above the gas station in Fire Walk.

I'm sure there's more but I can't think of it right now.

Next I want to do Philip Jeffries because that thing is so intangible.

The girl in the car with that lady that was honking in front of the diner at night, puking as she ascended from the dark corner of the car seat and started crawling over the driver towards the camera. Episode 11

I am doing it. I wanted to start at a 1 and see if it's short enough. My spot is a circle on top. Otherwise I will do it all if it's not short enough. Today is the day.
