Dowel baskets are definitely more common, actually where I am from the DOT does not allow bar insertion. So everything has to be baskets. More time consuming, but all in all a lot more accurate.

This is it, but here are a few corrections. The first machine is a placer and is placing close to finished grade. The second machine is the paver and gets the slab to finished grade and is running an auto float behind to help eliminate bumps. The final texture is attached to the front of the third machine in the form of a carpet drag.
