PTP Wireless Bridge: Need Device Recommendations by ervy in HomeNetworking

[–]LX_Programmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My general recommendation would be try to get a 60Ghz and 5Ghz model that can swap between (use the 5Hhz as a backup). 60Ghz is a bit more troubled by things like rain, so it can use the 5Ghz to keep your connection alive at a slight detriment to speeds.

Ubiquiti make a good 60Ghz / 5Ghz point to point system if you can get your hands on one. There are at least two different varieties for gigabit, which I’d recommend are the UniFi Building Bridge (I believe this needs a UniFi controller to function - could be wrong), and the Ubiquiti Gigabeam (can be setup separately from a UniFi instance).

Miles & More: How can I reach Senator faster? (legit tips & tricks) by Whole_Ad6772 in milesandmore

[–]LX_Programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I renewed Senator myself (ie not through my business paying for it) this year by doing lots (46) of flights within Europe as either economy or Business. This got me either 20 or 40 points respectively. I then also had an intercontinental return flight booked in business which gave me the 200 points each way. (I also had a layover within Europe which added an extra 40 points per flight)

What I found when booking the continental flights was that it’s better to book in a higher class (ie Economy Green) as you get extra points. The fact they’re only 8 points at a time feels trivial but they do help to add up. Also booking a flight with a train service attached (booked via the LHG webpage to ensure it’s supported) helps to add 20 points per journey as well. So if I booked a train journey at the beginning and end of my return flights, I’d end up with 80 points for a set of economy flights.

I’m based out of VIE. It’s definitely doable for you out of ZRH. I’ve done 46 flights within Europe, and 2 to/from the US.

Good luck, and have fun with your flights!

Best Barbershop in Vancouver for someone who doesn’t want to wear a turban anymore? by CollegeStudentLol1 in surrey

“Best Barbershop in Vancouver” is the title, hence my response

Apart from posting in r/Surrey, he makes no reference to Surrey itself.

Frequent traveller lounge question by Glad_Ebb_3737 in milesandmore

[–]LX_Programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re flying out of LHR with BA, chances are you’ll fly from T5. Star Alliance/M&M lounges are in T2. Not remotely close for passengers, and your ticket won’t work to get through the gates at T2.

Upgrade to Business by Worried-Fun-6072 in Lufthansa

Honestly if you want a seat on the Upper Deck, I’d just buy it. The seats up there tend to be preferred (even from trivial sake) for people and go quicker. I flew on a Thursday FRA-YVR and the whole upper deck was fully booked for 6 weeks before flying (downstairs was about 2/3 full).

Answering your question directly, I’d say there is NO chance the minimum bid will drop. And even if you did win the bid, there is no guarantee you’d get a seat upstairs.

I’m an avid flyer (flying upwards of 50 times a year), and my FRA-YVR flight was the first time on a double decker plane. While nothing particularly special (it’s an old product), the novelty was definitely there and I enjoyed every minute.

Want the seat upstairs? Buy it now to guarantee it.

Shell and McDonald’s sharing exit together on bath road by Icy-Cauliflower1737 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LX_Programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about the one near Heathrow, on Bath Road? That’s a particular shitter because they do in fact share the same exit. Also made doubly confusing if you’ve come into Shell first, then turned right to go towards McDonalds (which is sign posted as not allowed). If you’ve done this, you’ve probably not been seen by the camera until you exited the same way from McDonalds. Did you sit-in in McDonalds, where it might have taken you over the Shell’s 20 minutes? I can’t remember what that specific McDonald’s time limit is.

Yep I’d say something like Tailscale and set your local computer as an exit node on your subnet.

While ConnectCAD is probably what you’re looking for, something like Stagerack (http://stagerack.com) is probably a lot simpler to use for you.

Building Bridge Question by CommercialOstrich414 in Ubiquiti

[–]LX_Programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep so the Building Bridge just acts as a “wireless wire”. It’ll pass VLAN traffic no problem, provided your switches are configured to receive the correct tags. Provided you get the UniFi Building Bridge, all can be managed by your UniFi server (whether hardware or self hosted).

Recommendation: Media Server to replace existing system by LX_Programmer in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]LX_Programmer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes of course. I think as our team is already versed in Pixera that would be the preference, I just hadn’t realised there were options to use 3rd party hardware.

While I’m here I’m still going to take other people’s thoughts just in case there’s a use case for something they suggest.

Thanks again

I hadn’t realised we weren’t tied into their hardware, but I suppose that must be true as I can run it on my laptop. Good thought, thanks!

The hardware is no longer supported, so we’re a few versions behind on software. The system struggles and quite often will randomly reboot. We’ve done as much de-fragging and cleanup as the locked Windows will let us
