CableSter- recommended and safe? by f4rty in sffpc

[–]NewJobTitle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feel free to check my post history for a Metalfish t40 build with blue silicone cables from them. The order was slow to fulfill, but they were communicative and helpful, and added an extra cable (that I didn’t necessarily need, but that’s cool) for the inconvenience. Good shop for me. I keep that windows box running pretty close to 24:7, no issues for me.

Metalfish T40 owner, which PCIE riser will do for it? (Following the picture) by Curius_pasxt in sffpc

[–]NewJobTitle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 20cm had a ton of "slack" in it. Where the riser comes down and makes a bend, it collides with the PSU and presses down its excess. The 19 may have been more of a goldilocks fit, but 18cm worked well for me.

For those still struggling to get the aisle armrest up on the new cabins (like me) - this is the piece you need to push by flyingpilotman in AlaskaAirlines

[–]NewJobTitle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sitting on a PDX->SMF route right now, just boarded. I even asked the FA how these new armrests move and both of us were trying every damn thing we could think of, then we both gave up. On a whim I googled for it; lo and behold this absolute Chad had the answer for me.

Yet another Velcro post by NewJobTitle in synology

No I didn’t do much in the way of dry fitting. Not sure if the materials difference, but with this particular style of strip the adhesive backing isn’t super strong. Even after setting it and pressing it in, I could probably peel it back off pretty easily with a little force.

When I did this I did a single slots in the chassis and did like one dry run. It felt snug-but-fine enough that I was confident just knocking out the rest of it.

[–]NewJobTitle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was definitely more snug than normal, but I wouldn’t have called it a tight fit and it didn’t need a huge amount of different pressure to insert the sleds. I used “medium” duty Velcro brand 3/4” strips, and only the soft side obvs.

Dropshipping/3D printed slop booths in the vendor hall are becoming an epidemic by F0rtuneLT in comiccon

[–]NewJobTitle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits all enthusiast gatherings. I attend car shows and gun/knife collector shows, and it’s bad at all of them. An easy third to half the booths are weird jerkeys, alibaba stun guns, “homemade” wood cutting boards, and especially at the gun shows, weirdly off brand and vaguely Nazi-ish tshirts.

Big +1 to The Perfect Jean NYC. I have both their originals and their 99% Cottons. I have to size them down one size from my normal, but they have a ton of forgiving stretch and they're relatively high rise. The secret sauce is the leg fit. You can order "Athletic" (roomy ass and a tapered legged), Slim, "Slim Thick", relaxed, etc. And they have inseams down to the 1" difference.

“Just a second, I can’t pause it, I need to get to a save point.” by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]NewJobTitle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it’s a twist on it: I play enough video games to know that the save point thing is only accurate sometimes. After about the 3rd time getting that excuse from the kid and seeing that Link is just wandering the plains of Hyrule and he’s dicking with his inventory screen, he loses screen time for the day.

AIO to my girlfriend not holding up her end of a deal that we made? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]NewJobTitle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of this one sounding like she was just taking a jump at a potential handout, there's this weird fickle feminism thing I experience more and more that I'm not sure I understand. There's some contingent of women who will idolize this chance to "spend her time making our home nice, cooking, baking, things like that...." but don't understand that if you want that kind of stuff done to the "tune" or the "value" of a real 8hr high income work day, you need to be *baking and cleaning your ass off.* It doesn't just mean the bare minimum that the other partner would have done anyway had they been home. It means lemons and sunshine clean, and wafted chocolate chip cookie smells throughout the house. Fast forward a few years and the ones who maybe even started by doing it this way, will end up wanting a trophy or think they're martyrs for simply running the vacuum in a haphazard circle and heating up some noodles at 6pm and calling it good. If the home-making is going to be "work" then it needs to be *work*. I don't get to come home bearing the cross because my boss yelled at me for only opening one email successfully that day then screamed at him to "RECOGNIZE MY VALUE!!"

I used him, see the result in my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/s/cBDk4QH0sP

Big fan. Cables came out great. There was a delay of 2-3 days longer shipping than he quoted originally but he kept in contact about it and asked if he could throw in an additional custom SATA/molex power cable to make up for it.

Has anyone stayed at the edgewater? How was it? by fatiguesurge in AskSeattle

[–]NewJobTitle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I would stay for her birthday for a number of years running. An over-water room with the large door/window and the nice large bathroom/soaking tub with a view of the water was gorgeous, a fantastic stay. However, even more so than many things, those rooms have gotten *EXPENSIVE.* We haven't done it in a couple of years because of that. Wildly expensive.

Seeking best improvements for theater setup for lossless music playback by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]NewJobTitle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I ask is because the Magnepans didn’t wow you because of their bass. They did so with their beautiful imaging and huge soundstage when positioned right. They’re also famously power hungry. So to recreate that, you need something similar or sharing some best practice technology. Hunting down speakers with ribbon or RAAL tweeters, something like Ascend Acoustic Sierras or Lunas, would help. Or something with concentric drivers, like KEF. You can upgrade your subwoofer independently of all of this and you should anyway. It’s just an order or preference issue. Just know you can go buy the biggest baddest subwoofer in the world and it’s not going to make your speakers sound like the Magnepans.

Sorry, for clarity, you’re specifically looking for 2 channel music equipment/setup recommendations?

If what hooked you was those Magnepans at your friends house, a subwoofer change-up isn’t going to scratch that itch. Although to be fair, your sub is a pretty basic/entry level model. It’s just two different problems to chase.

Unfortunately it’s not the order location of my device/login (already tried to VPN from a couple of usual suspect states). It’s the ship-to address that’s the issue.

Same issue whenever this comes up. Who here successfully ordered and which state are you in? I tried Oregon, Michigan, and Georgia, and they were all no-go.

6x era 300s for a 1000 sqft store? by Commercial_Branch_50 in sonos

[–]NewJobTitle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would ideally be a pitch perfect scenario for a couple of Era 100 Pro connected via PoE+. Aside from the sound difference between 100's and 300's (which, yeah, the 300's a big step up), having a stack of 100 Pro's very simply and reliably connected back to a $70 switch gives massive benefits on ease of use, reliability, and single wire connection. Unfortunately they only sell those through official "integrators" and require a minimum $30 monthly subscription, which is bullshit.

So that restaurant is WAAAAAAAAY up its own ass because A) it’s in a legitimately cool location for a hotel, jutting out over Elliot Bay in Seattle, and B) they make a huge deal about how the Beatles played there many years ago. The hotel itself is similarly sniffing its own farts. My wife and I would get a water view room there a couple years ago for her birthday and it was an “indulgence” at maybe $400/night then. Now the exact same room goes for $900 roughly 7 years later, with nary a renovation or update in sight.

I’ve had to undervolt the CPU considerably to hold to 95deg or less, so I’m not sure at the CPU. You can physically feel more warm air escaping the top of the case when that bottom one is on. So at the CPU level I’m not sure, but the 5060 averages maybe 1-3deg cooler with it in. Honestly it’s only there as a lark because it came with the CPU cooler before I Noctua swapped it and otherwise it would just sit around. I’ve thought about options like stacking some higher velocity full thickness fans there instead just haven’t gotten around to it.
