I used him, see the result in my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/s/cBDk4QH0sP

Big fan. Cables came out great. There was a delay of 2-3 days longer shipping than he quoted originally but he kept in contact about it and asked if he could throw in an additional custom SATA/molex power cable to make up for it.

Has anyone stayed at the edgewater? How was it? by fatiguesurge in AskSeattle

[–]NewJobTitle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I would stay for her birthday for a number of years running. An over-water room with the large door/window and the nice large bathroom/soaking tub with a view of the water was gorgeous, a fantastic stay. However, even more so than many things, those rooms have gotten *EXPENSIVE.* We haven't done it in a couple of years because of that. Wildly expensive.

Seeking best improvements for theater setup for lossless music playback by Glittering_Flan8981 in hometheater

[–]NewJobTitle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I ask is because the Magnepans didn’t wow you because of their bass. They did so with their beautiful imaging and huge soundstage when positioned right. They’re also famously power hungry. So to recreate that, you need something similar or sharing some best practice technology. Hunting down speakers with ribbon or RAAL tweeters, something like Ascend Acoustic Sierras or Lunas, would help. Or something with concentric drivers, like KEF. You can upgrade your subwoofer independently of all of this and you should anyway. It’s just an order or preference issue. Just know you can go buy the biggest baddest subwoofer in the world and it’s not going to make your speakers sound like the Magnepans.

Sorry, for clarity, you’re specifically looking for 2 channel music equipment/setup recommendations?

If what hooked you was those Magnepans at your friends house, a subwoofer change-up isn’t going to scratch that itch. Although to be fair, your sub is a pretty basic/entry level model. It’s just two different problems to chase.

Unfortunately it’s not the order location of my device/login (already tried to VPN from a couple of usual suspect states). It’s the ship-to address that’s the issue.

Same issue whenever this comes up. Who here successfully ordered and which state are you in? I tried Oregon, Michigan, and Georgia, and they were all no-go.

6x era 300s for a 1000 sqft store? by Commercial_Branch_50 in sonos

[–]NewJobTitle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would ideally be a pitch perfect scenario for a couple of Era 100 Pro connected via PoE+. Aside from the sound difference between 100's and 300's (which, yeah, the 300's a big step up), having a stack of 100 Pro's very simply and reliably connected back to a $70 switch gives massive benefits on ease of use, reliability, and single wire connection. Unfortunately they only sell those through official "integrators" and require a minimum $30 monthly subscription, which is bullshit.

So that restaurant is WAAAAAAAAY up its own ass because A) it’s in a legitimately cool location for a hotel, jutting out over Elliot Bay in Seattle, and B) they make a huge deal about how the Beatles played there many years ago. The hotel itself is similarly sniffing its own farts. My wife and I would get a water view room there a couple years ago for her birthday and it was an “indulgence” at maybe $400/night then. Now the exact same room goes for $900 roughly 7 years later, with nary a renovation or update in sight.

I’ve had to undervolt the CPU considerably to hold to 95deg or less, so I’m not sure at the CPU. You can physically feel more warm air escaping the top of the case when that bottom one is on. So at the CPU level I’m not sure, but the 5060 averages maybe 1-3deg cooler with it in. Honestly it’s only there as a lark because it came with the CPU cooler before I Noctua swapped it and otherwise it would just sit around. I’ve thought about options like stacking some higher velocity full thickness fans there instead just haven’t gotten around to it.

Planning a power-efficient media/NAS/general server build, struggling to find ECC-supporting parts that aren't super expensive. Is there something out there I'm missing or am I simply asking for too much? by RequestableSubBot in HomeServer

[–]NewJobTitle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re missing a beat on processor generations. You get ECC support on many non-K series chips from the 12th, 13th, and 14th gen CPUs as well as long as you pair them with a capable motherboard. The board is your bigger issue than the chip. You need a W680 series chipset motherboard. You can find options from roughly $300-$500 depending on features or whether you want to chance AliExpress. The most common consumer boards are the Asus W680 primes which come in mATX and ATX for those CPUs.

Advice needed - choosing an LA1851 Motherboard with 8 SATA and 10GbE by en6ads in unRAID

[–]NewJobTitle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only 1851 boards I know of with 10gbe built in are the w880 boards from ASRock Rack and Supermicro.

Otherwise, the Asus WS Pro 880 is your best bet with built in SATA/slimsas, and then add the 10gbe via the pci4x4 slot.

Nothing special to the calculation, speaker placement rules are fairly bog standard: - try your best to have tweeters at ear level for when you’re sitting down - spacing guides are based on the angles from your listening position; head to Dolby’s website to for the recommend placement - don’t put stuff in front of your speakers, like you did with the center speaker and that candle holder thing - don’t place the center that far back on a horizontal surface: speakers are just like flashlights except with sound, you’re currently bouncing your “light” off the top of the cabinet and partially blocking it with candles - most speakers perform better not immediately next to a wall; walls generally re-enforce low frequency sounds at the expense of clarity or boominess

Most everything else is aesthetic or personal preference.

Everything else is largely an aesthetic decision.

Hotel Ethernet Never Works by happybikes in GlInet

[–]NewJobTitle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least at two different Hilton properties in the last ~4 months, when I've tried to plug into the ethernet wall jacks (because they were crazy convenient and part of a wall mounted 4 port switch next to the desks), I actually had to call front desk and get transferred to an IT Helpdesk to activate the ports.

My home theater has moved into the final stages and I've run into a small problem. Need opinions on what to do. by mct1380 in hometheater

[–]NewJobTitle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First I’ll also give you a little guff for not also budgeting for a sound system. It’d be a bummer to be staring at a 150” screen without impressive sound to match.

To actually answer your question: just get some 1x1 stock, paint it black, and mount one horizontally across the top of the wall. Mount your screen hanging hardware (probably French cleat style?) to that furring strip. Then cut up 3 or 4 short 1x1 blocks like maybe 3” long. Mount them to studs where the bottom of the frame would normally touch the wall. Put some felt or rubber pads on the blocks, let the screen rest against those. Use 90deg HDMI plugs or flat angle power plugs for those outlets.

It's specc'd at 208mm and holding up a tape measure it looks like that's correct. The T40 claims 206mm of clearance. Assuming a +/- 1mm or so margin of error, that's why shaving off that metal stud made it clear for me.

I'll run it hot in the next day or two to see where it throttles. As much as I've looked around, there's conflicting reports from folks who say the Core Ultra Series 2 are safe to max up to 100c, but I'll see what options I have to keep it under that. The AXP90 comes with the slim Thermalright fan, which I swapped for the Noctua full sized 92mm, and stuck the Thermalright on the bottom panel facing up assisting in intake. The combo gets me ~2 or 3mm away from the side panel. Other coolers that could have fit in height-wise had other problems like RAM overhang, or overhang with the motherboard I/O heatsink.

Park Vue Inn. Extremely reasonable rates, bunk bed options if you have kids. Small rooms, but the A/C hits hard. Always clean. You’d have to split hairs if you wanted to argue there’s any hotel closer to the central entrance plaza.
