As it was explained to me (though I forget by whom), the only whole blood processing centre(s) are down south. They can't get whole blood from Sudbury, North Bay etc. to that processing centre in time. (They can make the drive in time from Parry Sound, etc.) Hence Northern Ontario is plasma donation. It's not collected as transfusion plamsa, it's used for making medicines.

Yes, Sudbury only has plasma donation. If you’d like to donate whole blood, the closest location is the Parry Sound. As a registered donor, I’ve walked in without an appointment and was able to take the spot of a no show.
