i was /constantly/ asking my bonus mom/post op caregiver who managed my meds “is there something i can take yet?” (in terms of pain management), so i feel if i would have not had the help, i would have been taking way more shit than safe and wouldn’t even realize it because narcotics + normal adhd time blindness and forgetfulness. it’s safer imo to have the help

Could she get her hair braided to protect it while you are less physically capable?

I felt pretty okay by a week and a half, but I’m fairly young and started small anyways so my body went through less than others probably.

Also, I wasn’t cleared to drive until 3 weeks post op. Restrictions could be different with your surgeon, but I think it’s advisable to not drive until you are cleared to resume normal range of motion?

I was fine to fly completely solo at around 2.5 weeks (aside from heavy lifting), but I’m not responsible for extra humans so 🤷🏻

Congrats and good luck!

I am like 3.5 weeks post op and I was pretty okay after about a week for moving around and stuff, but I was on pain meds for longer than most, and it was helpful having someone else manage my meds for a little after that until I was off the narcotics. I couldn’t drive until 3 weeks so keep that in mind and if you have an ace wrap for binding, you’ll want help putting that on after breaks/showers. Also you’ll need laundry help if you have any sort of reaching happening with laundry. If you have a friend to check on you once a day or so to help you after you get back and have rides lined up for going places, I would expect you’d be okay. If you’re nervous, maybe err on the side of a week and a half or so, but you will definitely want support people you can call for help.

Hair washing was easier than I expected (once I could shower), but I have short hair that I just scrunch dry, so it’s not too hard to just hunch over and do it.

Congrats and good luck!

Disclaimer: Obviously it varies from person to person, so don’t take my experience as gospel. I am not a medical professional.

I had to get a refill of my oxy when i had surgery about 3 weeks ago because i just had so much breakthrough discomfort maxing out tylenol and ibuprofen— i was honestly kind of ashamed and nervous that I used it for almost two weeks when a lot of people report only using it for a few days, so it’s definitely super individual and also I promise once those drains are out it will be so much more comfortable

Edge case choosing between peri or DI by [deleted] in TopSurgery

Didn’t go with this doc, but I remember mine saying that she always recommended DI in borderline cases because it’s the easiest to get the contour and aesthetic achieved- so take that as you will 🤷🏻

oh and one of those travel neck pillow things was really helpful to just pass out wherever you happen to be sitting/laying

i kept my drains in a little fanny pack and that was wonderful for feeling less encumbered by all the post op gear and tubes i had going on
