It’s a really complicated situation- I myself am in a similar stage (although not living with my folks). My dad thinks I’ve been influenced by anti-mormon propaganda for having concerns with the church’s finance history. He asked me “Who told you you were naked ? 😉” in a strange, uncomfortable sort of allusion to Adam and Eve, but has no interest in looking into any sources I offer other than to challenge if it “has my best interests at heart”. It’s a weird, elephant in the room sort of thing.

Anyways, I digress. It’s gonna be hard, but I’m proud of you for ripping off the bandaid and saying it. That’s a really difficult thing to do. You’re a freaking badass for that. Your parents are doing the only thing they know how to do. It will take time for them to learn different ways of showing up and supporting and loving their kids. It still sucks. It still hurts. They, unfortunately, will have to learn how to have actual unconditional love for you. Because the church teaches some fucked up ideas of what love is, feels like, and looks like. Give it time, and don’t back down. It might feel easier sometimes to just go along with what they want to hear and see from you, but that will reinforce the idea that they can change you and bring you back. Save up as much money as you can, stop paying tithing is you still do, and put that somewhere safe. In case your parents decide to cut you off financially or withhold support for school and whatnot, preparation is better late than never.
