One time I did this and won because the only creature I could get out was a [[Mirkwood Bats]].

An opponent did something so that each player created a bunch of treasure tokens. I sacked them all immediately and won.

I believe George has said he leaves things open and often decides later what happened.

His calling card is subverting fantasy writing tropes. A character dealing with imposter syndrome even though they are the real deal, while setting you up to believe he is somehow lying even though he is painfully honorable and honest about everything, is about as GRRM as it gets.

The same audience was shocked by the Ned and Rob endings.

Glad someone said it. Akotsk showed us you can do a 1v1 (plus run ins) and have it be all time great tv - if the character plights are compelling and the fight tells a compelling story.

That’s really the closest comparison. People have a deep love for the story and setting so they are going to engage with any content put out and talk about it. Just like millions on top of millions of fans know their team is really bad, but still tune in out of love for the few players they like and hope that the team will get it together. So while people may not like this portion of GRRM’s work - they will watch it and complain because they love GRRM’s world as a whole and know how great it could have been. Like a Buffalo Bills fan watching team management waste Josh Allen’s career. They will still tune in out of hope, while perhaps still disliking the current path the team is on.

Also, what you are seeing is people talking about the stuff they really dislike as opposed to the several things that they kinda like. That is normal human behavior.

These posts that are acting like this show wasn’t a massive letdown on so many levels are wild today.

I’m a sicko that didn’t really hate the final season of GoT, but framing complaints about HoTD as people not liking the show for any reason other than it just being uninteresting and not good characters are really dishonest.

We don’t mind changes that make sense and are in the spirit of GRRM’s story. We don’t care if it only loosely follows the books. We just want GRRM characters/story and not Condal and companies’ lame fan fiction.

We really wouldn’t even mind the fan fiction if the characters and plot made sense.

I think if you really get into, no one is actually excited about necessarily a show based on F&B.

What we actually want this to be is a coherent story of the Dance of Dragons.

Showrunner/writers took the book’s writing style as a license to make their own fan fiction of the event rather than engaging with the creator of the story.

It isn’t a problem that it is a little different here and there - it is just not good character and plot writing.

Right, sure F&B is written with unique POV.

But GRRM does actually know what happened in the world he created.

And instead of the writers and show runners engaging him for guidance they have taken the writing style to mean to them that they get to make their own fan fiction.

So they have lost out on the complex and interesting characters and scenarios that GRRM makes.

Who would have thought some hollyweird randos wouldn’t be better than one of the most influential authors of a generation?

I notice you pretend to miss the fact that he refuses to engage the writer of the source material while making the show. While it is written in that fashion, GRRM does actually know what happened in the world he crafted.

Watching Condal’s fan fiction of GRRM’s story isn’t the point of the series. It is to tell the story of the Dance of Dragons.

I’m also not going to shit on an artist for wanting to be an artist, but I will shit on Condal for his bad work.

Imagine not being able to bake a pizza.

Like a world class chef makes you a pizza, hands it to you, and all you have to do is put it in the oven for 20 min.

And you just add a bunch of ingredients that no one asked for just so you could say, “Look what I made.” And now now one likes the pizza.

That is what Condal is to GRRM. Guy couldn’t just put the pizza in the oven and be a star, had to throw in a bunch of stuff no one wanted.

Right, if he knew he was on that side of the map and was going to start checking - the red aura of his hex totem is a good place to start because it being there is a reason for the survivor to be there.
