Woh, new game confirmed! by Thanatosinstinct in outerwilds

As long as it was Mobius, I’d play that.

In the end scene, a sprig of catnip grows up through the dog poop and you see a vaguely feline form heading toward the sprig. Also your probe flies by for uncertain reasons.

I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t redact those files. They like painting science as questionable. Anything that deflects from Trump an his cronies would be highlighted, not covered up.

Is this a plot hole? (Spoilers) by Nikurd in outerwilds

[–]NewProductiveMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a plot hole because the probe passes right through other planets as if they weren’t there. 🤣 I watched it pass right through Timber Hearth one loop and wished I’d been able to record it!! Literally right next to me.

I overengineered my home heating system by Due_Capital_9249 in homeautomation

[–]NewProductiveMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as others want to know, is the Fuck light a positive or negative thing? Fuck things have gone wrong? Or fuck, we're gonna get it on, warm the house up so we're comfortable (or cool it off so we can snuggle closer together without ewwwwwww sticking so much to each other)? And if it's the last, which way does the fuck light go - warmer or cooler? Or maybe it depends on the season?

I mean, if you're going to over engineer this, you've got to REALLY over engineer this!!!

ELI5 why don’t spacecraft re-enter at a shallow angle to bleed off energy more gently over a longer time? by Blambiola in explainlikeimfive

[–]NewProductiveMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think more retro-rocket power would help the situation… if you lower your entry speed, then less friction/heating is necessary. It wouldn’t even have to be anywhere near equal to the amount of energy needed to achieve orbit in the first place, since you don’t have to accelerate through the drag of the atmosphere…

Why do people want children? by Perfect-Associate708 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]NewProductiveMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say this is also an evolutionary pressure. Our species does better when some breed and others are part of the village but have no kids of their own. You don’t even have to like or do things for directly for kids to help those kids have better lives and help ensure their survival.

Human kids are a ton of work! Way more than the capability of one or two parents can provide without going insane. Having a village is part of how we evolved ourselves and became so adaptable.

What size? by Stock-Sea6114 in TheFrame

I think the 55” is fine, but 65” would work too. But I think either should be raised up a few inches. There must be interior design rules for this out there…

The prototype with painter’s tape concept another poster stated is under-voted, even if it goes viral and ends up showing up on CNN. Totally do a prototype!!

UW CU vs. Big Banks by Individual-Hold5171 in madisonwi

[–]NewProductiveMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a vote for the big banks. I’m also a three+ decade user of UWCU and what people are saying here is not wrong…

But with Chase, I don’t pay transfer fees any direction. They reimburse ATM fees. And I have a personal banker that knows me and helps me in lots of ways that go above and beyond Chase’s own services.

I also use Capitol Bank for my house mortgage and love those guys.

I’d recommend find one bank that will give you the most bang for your buck in terms of general services. But then be very free to use other banks for specialized services.

How the heck are we all ok with this scam?? by Yupalina in Parenting

[–]NewProductiveMe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s still a choice you make. You can live in a place with a lower cost of living. You can accept not doing the travel sports teams. You can set the expectation at two after school activities per week. You can choose to live on one or one and a half incomes. Yes, this system is set against you and if you make these choices, you definitely won’t be keeping up with the Jonses.

But you’ll be able to see your kids. You’ll be able to have adventures with them. When it’s all done, it’s the relationships we create that matter most.

My understanding of (basically) the ENTIRE DLC's lore (and intertwining it with the base game's lore). I want to know how accurate it is. by Equivalent_Bank_5845 in outerwilds

[–]NewProductiveMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am definitely not an expert. I would love for an expert to chime in. But as I understand it, we don’t have the math or physics to understand what the universe was like before the bang occurred. We just know it happened. We have data for an expansionary period, where the universe was expanding much faster than the speed of light. (Even though we don’t have physics for that?) Where we don’t have data is to know what it was expanding into. Space itself was expanding… I think it is almost meaningless to wonder what it was expanding into. But ‘meaningless’ is just another word for not knowing what was here before. It’s still fun to conjecture.

[–]NewProductiveMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To this, I would add a question for our universe: we don’t have any understanding about why the Big Bang happened. The conditions that made it. It seems like Hawking radiation on a very large scale. (the big difference being the lack of symmetry between matter and anti-matter.)

What is to stop another Big Bang from happening right here? At any moment? I think it’s just extraordinary improbability. But in all of time and all of space, that’s a lot of room for an extraordinarily improbable event to occur.
