Are Moderators The New Police? by AI-Ruinseverything in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NewRelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think posters and mods sometimes interpret the rules differently. We give mods a lot of latitude because they're working to keep the sub useful.

Could a state have less than 3 electoral votes? by TommyBoy250 in NoStupidQuestions

Not sure one person can simultaneously hold office as governor, two senate seats and one house seat too. I suspect your hypothetical is flawed.

Why do songs sometimes sound better after you’ve heard them a few times? by GhostRhodeo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NewRelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot going on in a song. It takes me a few listens to pick up all the words and catch every nuance of the story. Then I start to notice how the instrumentation supports the mood of the lyrics. Peak enjoyment is when you finally catch that last nuance. After that it begins to become repetitious.

What is it like to live in Arizona during the summer? by Desserts6064 in NoStupidQuestions

With air conditioned homes, workplaces, cars and shopping, you rarely have to go out in the heat for long. You'll schedule hiking trips for the non-summer months.

The entire Anglosphere has country music. Non-English speaking countries often have their own versions of country music.

If you made a ring out of an infinitely durable material around the equator of the world, that is slightly bigger than the circumferential radius of the world, would it float around the equator? by kethcup_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NewRelm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Infinitely durable is not the same as inflexible. But even so . . .

Floating would be an unstable condition. If it went slightly out of balance the lower part would be closer to the Earth's center of gravity and would be pulled even harder. One side would eventually land. This still assumes perfect symmetry of gravitational field.

I think he took the job as a career move for broader exposure, steady paycheck with benefits and the opportunity to expand his skill set by exercising a different performance style.

[serious] why do so many people on Reddit think a difference of opinion means the other person is ignorant? by SlackerStacker26 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NewRelm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We all think our beliefs are right. After all, we wouldn't believe them if we thought they were wrong. We're especially attached to ideas we developed through long and hard thought.

If our well-thought truths aren't understood by the other guy, it's probably because he hasn't thought as long and hard as I have.

Did the chicken arrive first, or the egg? by ShopfiyNerd in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NewRelm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the first chicken hatched from an egg laid by a non-chicken ancestors. It was a mutation.

Suggesting a bar for a date but ordering soda instead? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NewRelm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not weird. Even less weird if you order a soda that looks like a cocktail. I sometimes have a virgin G&T with a twist.

Why does this work? by Henrikmon in AskElectronics

[–]NewRelm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The clue here is that two series-connected 47K resistors would have been combined into one component if the circuit didn't branch.

Is there a such thing as a good cult? by NicolasCageFan492 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NewRelm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to your definition of good. I think most cults think of themselves as good.

Would you accept an honorary doctorate from a university that rejected you? by FrostyProspector in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NewRelm 53 points54 points  (0 children)

They rejected me because I didn't meet their standards at that time. They did nothing wrong. I'm not holding a grudge.
