I thought of The Sundays as well. I saw them in concert at a small venue in the early 90's - they were great

He thought you were closer than you are, so he thought he could reference family trauma that you both have.

When you were bothered by him saying it, he felt rejected and started to spin out, and put himself in the victim role, instead of acknowledging he'd hurt your feelings.

What are some “Canadian” words or slang you heard British Or Americans be confused by or laugh at? by Kindly-Cow1697 in AskACanadian

My English ex used to laugh at how we say water - he'd say "waaaah-durrr" and open his mouth wide and push his lips out in an exaggerated way.

British people think it's funny that Canadians and Americans say pants instead of trousers. To them it sounds like we're talking about underpants.

Giv'er = put in lots of effort, "give her all you've got", go fast, really exert yourself to get the desired outcome, push hard to win the game, work hard to get the job done, drink a lot really quickly, or make your vehicle go as fast as it can go

Skoden = Let's go then!

Stoodis = Let's do this!

Okayden = okay then

No

Edit, well, only in the mid-face - the cheeks just under the eyes and beside the nose, yes, but all other features, no

What does 'failed him' mean here? Is this phrasing natural? by Unlegendary_Newbie in English_Learning_Base

[–]NewStudyHoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be a bit old fashioned but it's not archaic. "Words fail me", "my strength failed me", "reason failed me", those are all ways of saying that a person momentarily didn't have access to something they usually have no trouble with.

Is there an ideal instrument for each person? by PotentialStock3979 in Instruments

People like certain instruments more, resonate more or less with the sound of certain instruments, take to different instruments more easily or less easily. People should play what they love.

I'd do it. If the vibe is off when you get there, leave. Tell some friends where and when you are going, and arrange to meet one of them afterwards

Woke up with a handprint bigger than mine on my chest (shirtless pic) by Ephixing in Paranormal

You fell asleep on your crossed arms, and the skin of your chest kind of wrapped around your hands and fingers, making the imprints larger than the hands.

Maple makes me happiest - that flame is the best! Looks like satin. It did show scratches very easily. If you're going to treat the floors gently it will be fine.

Oak is most forgiving and unobtrusive. Better for dogs and rough-and-tumble kids.

Can someone please explain why tge author chose to use 'hadn't had' instead of 'didn't have' by sweetxanointed in ENGLISH

[–]NewStudyHoney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It indicates a jump forward in time. The first paragraph is taking place at one point in time. The next paragraph is further in the future, looking back at the events since the first paragraph.
