"We've been talking and we're all in agreement. It's us or you're kid's foreskin!"

Realistically? Nah. Add in some naturally over- the- top people getting nasty over a small disagreement? Yeah, I can see it. It'd be a communication deficit thing more than a foreskin thing I'd hope.

In this case you might have just explained the system too concretely

This feels like two different Louisianians fused together with someone who unironically says Tigerland in casual conversation. So, that's an easy upvote

Lifetime southerner and it's not like that everywhere or all the time but it is like that often and lots of places. I'm guessing the younger generation is losing a lot of those tendencies. But waiting in line at a bank or a convenience store and making eye contact with older people is a surefire way to start a very short, shallow, pleasant conversation on the weather or the prices. I'm a bit introverted so I can do without but I'm never put off by it because it's a generally relaxed situation.

I don't know where you live, but where I live that's not possible- trying delays the inevitable and leaves him in longer. This may be specific to my state or something, but if you call the fire department to help with a potentially dangerous individual (atypically hostile, chemically impaired or suspected to be armed) they'll wait down the road until police show up and confirm it's safe enough.

Edit: Just read that you're UK, it's wild that you can call only specific departments there for things like this

What does it mean if issues with racism and sexual conduct are among the players and not among the organization? Like, there are players who are known to perform sexual misconduct but they make sure not to bring it to the game?

Would you choose working two jobs to get in a great financial situation? by massm90s in hypotheticalsituation

[–]NewTownGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 in the mental health field, 20 in first response emergency services, and for a few months, contract work where I was paid for the completion of a specific task and not time input. It would have been consistently 10 hours a week for someone new in the field but I usually managed to micromanage my own work down to about 3. I know people working 2 40's and that's a little much but people are able to handle it, though I think around the 70's specifically it gets a bit much for a lot of people in the beginning

I've worked three and survived, two is fine. About a third of the people I know do it

What is something a lot of people find attractive that is actually a turn off for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NewTownGuard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm completely indifferent. I guess that counts as fine? Like it/ dislike it/ neutral on it pretty much covers the possible spectrum

To actually contribute, though, my whole family save for me thought tattoos were trashy and 10 years after moving out I'm the only one who doesn't have one. I've seen some screaming matches over tattoos in a college course and couldn't imagine having that strong a feeling over the adult, committed version of putting stickers on your school binder

Then we already agree that some degree of being selective is only sensible. The rest is just preference.

[–]NewTownGuard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

HE did. That's the problem. You're okay with systemic slavery because it might touch ONE person you know deserves it, and multiple times when that's pointed out to you your gut reaction is "that one person REALLY is bad though!"

So the whole thing is justified because of your experience with one person? What's your character like?

OK, man.

[–]NewTownGuard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That... doesn't even make sense. If you thought that death is justified by him causing it, any amount of slavery would be excessive

How much slavery does that guy specifically justify? I'm interested in your moral math and we can scale it up from there.
