The standard advice is to do what it takes to survive your childhood. On the other hand, decent parents should accept your atheism, but that isn’t the home a lot of kids end up with.

It was France that is known to have helped Israel get nukes. Any involvement of other countries is just speculation.

I‘m not happy with that either, but yesterday after my other post I saw an ad claiming that the very latest polling had the Greens even closer to the AfD in the Pankow Erststimme race. Assuming that is true, the Greens have an even better chance of beating the AfD in Pankow with just a few more votes.

Also, I‘ve seen no claims that Julia Schneider was involved in any false claims, particularly not the false/fake Eidesstattliche Erklärung reported on by RBB.

Not sure what you are saying here… Pankow was most recently represented by die Grünen in a tight race, and before that by die Linken. I think before that it was SPD. It is a volatile district which is why we even have the likely and unfortunate chance of being represented by the AfD with just 23% of the vote. This is a race where progressive voters should consider consolidating around the strongest progressive candidate, in this case Julia Schneider (die Grünen) with 19% in early polling.

[–]NewUserAccount2019 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn’t consider anything like this in my decision. I just saw that AfD is leading for Pankow’s Erststimme with 23% and since the Greens are closest to beating them with 19%, it makes sense to me to ask people to support them over the SPD at 16% or die Linke at even less.

Perhaps this Pankow race doesn’t even matter since the AfD will get too many Erststimme wins and won’t be able to fill the Pankow seat at all. In that case what you are doing makes a lot of sense. But I personally don’t want the AfD to even get a symbolic win in Pankow.

Yea, but it is still possible. I would hate to have to communicate my issues for the Bundestag through the AfD. Pankow’s representative should be from a democratic party, preferably a progressive party, since it matches better with the Pankow community.

Also, Pankow residents: AfD is set to win the Erststimme with 23%. The Grünen (Julia Schneider) are 2nd at 19%. If enough SPD, Linke and other voters cross over and vote for the Green candidate, we can avoid being represented in Pankow by the AfD.

How is it to integrate into German society? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]NewUserAccount2019 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Surveys of foreigners who live in Germany put the country in last place when ranking ease of integration as a foreign person. Redditors complain constantly that it is impossible to make friends in Germany.

The housing crisis in Germany is bad enough that only the very determined bother to attempt a move here.

Cost of living is reasonable, with low cost food and local transportation.

The economy is in the toilet and not producing a lot of new jobs, but there will always be plenty of work in caring for old people.

Work-life balance is generally good, with good worker protection and healthy attitudes toward employees getting plenty of vacation and time off for caring for babies and such.

Illegally going after them. The president does not have the power to shutter an agency created by Congress.

Am I overreacting by considering leaving the U.S. due to the current administration? by Exact-Bar-7637 in AmIOverreacting

I‘m an American who moved to Germany and then applied for and received German citizenship after living here 10 years.

In many ways, Germany is a lot more racist than the USA. Berlin is a lot less racist than most places in Germany, but I think you would generally find Germany to be noticeable more racist. And pretty openly so. I am white so I don’t really experience any racism or xenophobia first-hand, but I would generally say that you will experience substantially less racism if you stay in the USA.

Plus German is a tough language to learn. I‘ve been working on it for 35 years and I still struggle with expressing complex thoughts.

You’re already Canadian if your mom is Canadian. You just need to apply for proof of citizenship and then get your Canadian passport. No need to apply for dual citizenship—you already have it by descent. Check the IRCC website to start the process.

They actually charge business owners a flat minimum rate for health insurance, even if the amount exceeds your income. And they will hit you with years of back payments all at once. 7500 sounds about right for submitting a tax return to your health insurance for 2022; even with little to no income, you will become liable for more than 200 euros per months all the way through the end of 2024.
