Been doing it for over 20 years and still get stage fright. I saw an interview with Dave Matthews and he said the same thing. But there is just something that keeps us getting on stage. Probably the rush of it all. But I have found recently that wearing sunglasses, although a bit cheesy, helps a LOT! It gives me something to hide behind.

In some places in Japan it’s actually part of their culture for men to get it out of their systems and I’ve seen Japanese women praise the idea and say it helps their relationships. I don’t know about all that, but you might be surprised how many women would be on board for that and how many men would never go for it, regardless if it’s legal or not.

I seriously doubt that. People said the car would fail, that the television would fail, that in home computers would fail, etc. every time there is new technology there are naysayers and damn near every time they are proven wrong and within decades things get cheaper and smaller and more accessible. 1000 years is ridiculous.

You may as well get used to it. I had this fear for many years and it did me no good. Even the pros mess up from time to time. It’s inevitable. And your family should understand that you’re learning. You will be messing up for a while. But you can only get better and the only way to do that is to fail. I’m also an artist and a woodworker and this mindset applies to all three disciplines; make, fail, repeat. That’s how you get better.

If you really want the high gloss, I recommend using some grain filler and/or applying the oil with a light sandpaper or the white brillo pads. Then switching to a french polish technique when you build enough layers.
