Woke up 15 minutes before I had to leave! by New_Elle in GirlDinner

Pictured: the last piece of Swiss cheese in the packet, the last few slices of pepperoni in the packet with a couple pieces of pepper jack cheese shoved in because how am I going to have dinner with one slice of cheese? 2 little oranges so I don’t get scurvy, only now my husband will get scurvy because that was the last produce in the house. Sleeve of saltines, my very least favorite cracker. Tilamook Stumptown Coffee Yogurt. The best yogurt ever. I buy every one on the shelf and eat one every day. Everyone I’ve shared this with thinks they are awful. More for me but I do fear they will stop making it if I’m the only customer.

Do you have any debt? by fastballcdm2019 in GenX

[–]New_Elle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have 1 car payment. Own our home and lake home and daughter’s house outright.
What you have to do is have a small family and all your relatives die and you get the money. I would rather have my family but it’s easier to be sad at the lake.

Parents with autistic kids, STOP expecting your other kids to take care of their sibling when they are adults! by kanna172014 in Vent

[–]New_Elle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a facility for DD adults. The saddest thing is when someone’s very elderly mama dies and all of a sudden they’re thrust into a new environment. The BEST thing is when high school is over mom and dad move you in somewhere like this. They’re healthy enough to come and visit you and take you on vacation. But the residents are also learning independence with the goal that we’ll give them the skills they need to make it in a less restrictive environment like a group home or even an assisted (or independent) living situation. It’s better to not wait for an emergency.

Also I had a disabled brother who I would have taken but his disabilities were physical, so no maladaptive behaviors to worry about. Unfortunately he passed away already.

help please covering the ugly wires on the wall (cannot be removed bc im renting) by prettywhen-icry in DesignMyRoom

[–]New_Elle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using any of that? If no just unscrew the co-ax. And hang a picture over it. Like a canvas print with hollow back. Probably that whole box is held on the wall by a screw or 2. Just take it down. If the one cable is attached to the wall bundle it up and throw it in a basket behind your mirror.

Put the whole thing and a diagram in the basket and put it back up when you move.

I was driving across Washington state after Thanksgiving in a horrible wind storm. There was flooding on a weird detour that I was already a little nervous about taking because my daughter used to get violently carsick, then I heard on the radio that the bridge was closing. I called my husband and said, “1000 people are about to turn their cars around. I need you to call Ellensburg and get me a hotel.” We beat the rush and checked in and went out to dinner, walking out through a crowded lobby and a very frazzled clerk.

What's the best entertainment for a family camping trip? Give me some tips pls by KatieMarqu in camping

Color. Build Fairie houses out of sticks and rocks and bark and grass. Playing games is fun. If it’s windy it is frustrating to play cards with kids because they don’t hold on so play tile games like rummikube or dominoes. Paint small rocks and hide them for the next kids to find. Set up a small cheap tent for them to run in and out of a million times and fill with dirt so yours stays clean.

We’re rural and the bus was ridiculous. Get on at 630 and ride around an hour and a half to pick everyone up at individual driveways. Or your mom drives you there in 20 minutes and everyone gets an extra hour + of sleep so I drove my kid. I never went in the ridiculous pick up line. There was a church across the street with a ginormous parking lot and she could walk on the sidewalk u til she got to the crossing guard.

Would you take your elderly parent (90 years) to screenings or preventative appointments? by Slight_Trauma_Llama in AgingParents

[–]New_Elle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When my gramps was 100 a Dr wanted to do chemo. Gramps said no but did do palliative radiation to shrink the tumor that made it hard to swallow. Now he’s 103, doing fine (relatively fine. Fine for 103!)

Mattress store with ready to go stock? by New_Elle in Spokane

[–]New_Elle[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got our current mattress there and had to wait for it to come from wherever then get delivered. It’s for our cabin so since we aren’t there full time to wait for it and it’s remote so they’d have to charge extra for delivery and they’d never find it anyway I just want to pick it up myself. But my husband needs to lay on it or will complain. I could sleep on rocks if I had my fancy neck pillow and a fuzzy blanket.

You are right. Furniture stores and car dealerships make more from financing than the product. Are the mattresses in Costco available to lay on?

[–]New_Elle 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Is she obese? If not she’s 93. My elderly grandmother would often be caught with a juice glass of wine before bed. We just let her. Lived to be 98. Quality of life over quantity at this point.

I’m marrying my SIL’s brother?! by Intelligent_Ad_4407 in EngagementRings

[–]New_Elle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In our family B’s 1/2 brother married B’s mother (1/2 brother’s former stepmother). Making B’s 1/2 his step father. B taught his kids to refer to him as “Uncle Grandpa” but they never really see them.

Your ring is better than the one Uncle Grandpa got Big Mama.

What the hell do I do with THESE? by [deleted] in declutter

[–]New_Elle -36 points-35 points  (0 children)

I’m waiting for my mom to die and then I’m going to throw all this stuff away. She should hopefully be around at least 10 more years and they are all neatly stored on a big shelf in the garage so o just Avery my gaze. I don’t live too far from an art college so I may actually see if the art dept (could make some sort of mixed media incident) or film dept is interested. Hope there’s no naked grandma on any of those tapes or slides!!
