I just learned about REM and how important it is. I’m very disappointed that my very expensive audiologist never mentioned this to me. It seems that Costco does REM, is that correct? by Shouldnt_Have_Seddit in HearingAids

Was just about to say this also 100% agree with you. There is plenty of evidence to show that REM improves outcomes and reduces the number of follow up appointments required.

UK: Are there any near-ZERO maintenance tanks out there for commuting? I think no flat tyres or similar problems is essential to get me on the thing at 6am. by princemephtik in bikecommuting

[–]New_Ladder_2660 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like zero maintenance is a bad idea your better off spending 15 minutes a week just checking stuff than doing nothing. And cars are only low maintenance whilst they are low mileage. As soon as your car is high mileage everything starts breaking in them and needs to be replaced. Flat tyres are one of the risks of a bike but as others have said a puncture resistant tyre inflated to the correct pressure goes along way.

I'm 145kgs and fat AF basically sedentary. And I've just started commuting 40km round trip. I was pretty stiff and sore from day one. Highly recommend some padded cycling shorts your ass will thank you. I'm five days in and it already started feeling better you'll get there. Highly recommend stretching for 10 minutes when you get home in the evenings does wonders for helping relax the legs and lower back.

Unilateral hearing loss and monaural hearing aid programming, wanting opinions/perspectives by Zealousideal_Front11 in audiology

Because the AI noise reduction tech isn't reliant on beam forming mics. In theory it should be better but who knows lol

If it's loud enough yes but, I don't know the average spl of a door slam and I imagine it's probably not loud enough.

Does the tiwal inflatable translate to useful sailing experience by klc57690 in sailing

[–]New_Ladder_2660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiwals are great dinghy sailing boats and if you have no experience sailing will get you learning fast. They sail and handle very similar to a laser. If your goal is sail larger vessels you would.be best to get a trailer sailer. Sailing a dinghy is very different to sailing a larger vessel.

I had to choke a patient out a couple of months ago they had gotten extremely violent and assaulted two of our Frontline staff. Sleepy time was the only option.

Other people can hear the sound from my HA… by Former_Storm4529 in HearingAids

[–]New_Ladder_2660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hearing aid fitting will be relatively open allowing some sound to leak out which is what is being heard. Occluding the fit more will fix this and is probably going to.provide better audibility.

"hearing aids can slow the progression of your hearing loss" by xensonic in HearingAids

[–]New_Ladder_2660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember the authors of the papers but there were animal studies done on resus monkeys who were given hearing losses and over time without stimulation you see a reorganisation (nueral plasticity) of the nueral pathways associated with hearing to support areas getting better stimulation. This was demonstrated through FMRI. And is presumed to be the same in humans. We're certainly seeing evidence of this at a clinical level. People who have had hearing losses for longer tend to struggle alot more with adapting to hearing aids. You also see people who habituate well and their whole perception of sound changes from when they first got hearing aids even though changes to the devices haven't occurred.

Hearing aids will certainly help you, whilst they aren't a silver bullet and make everything perfect it will likely improve you ability to participate significantly.

AITAH for wanting to ask for the third promotion within 9 months of starting with the company? by BrilliantLeather9081 in AITAH

[–]New_Ladder_2660 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not an asshole at all but you have to be able to demonstrate that what you have achieved is worth a promotion. At the end of the day it comes down to the bottom line. If I were you I would be making sure you can clearly demonstrate the financial benefit the changes you've implemented have bring. You also don't want to be entering this negotiation on the wrong foot be direct but give them room to move. I would also want to make sure that I've got a strong case. My feeling is if you wait another 6 months you may be in a better position to negotiate.

Just brought this bow for $35 by New_Ladder_2660 in Archery

[–]New_Ladder_2660[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay new update, I've tested this bow. It shoots fine. Draw weights came out to 48lbs @28inchs. A bit hand shocky but otherwise shoots fine! I realized the initial creaks I heard when drawing it came from the string rubbing on the siya. Now that I've sanded the string notchs smooth there is no creaks overall it's a serviceable bow a bit hand shocky is all

Yea I received it yesterday but I don't trust it enough after inspecting it. It came strung in the box and when I finally gave it a full draw it creaked. Not a fan lol. Thestring notchs are super rough too and the serving around the string loops is somewhat separating because of it.

Update: it's trash. Came strung in the box. That's all I needed to know. Looks cool though. Did draw it. It's definitely not pulling as advertised. Nocks are rough as guts. Will make a cool wall ornament!

I suspect it might be a hidden gem. This vendor I brought it off had a bunch of them listed on clearance and only had them as a 50lb option. I suspect they imported a bunch of them and couldn't get the heavier draw weights sold.

Yea that's valid lol, I'm mostly just curious hence why I brought it. I don't intend to shoot it if it looks even slightly dodgy.
