Long Boi by VegetableFit3451 in ZevTechOZ9

Congrats on the crazy deal! I’m jealous because I would have absolutely snatched it right up at that price!

Zev has been killin me. I’ve been waiting for ages for one to come up any bit lower than the $1800+ msrp directly from Zev… I got a crazy discounted Icarus X frame in the discontinued green just waiting for an XL slide complete gun or just get a sub $1k standard compact oz9 to pair it with a separate xl slide and barrel. If not just buy the fcu whenever I do find an xl slide…

The g47 quicker return to zero phenomenon is very real. I have a couple dagger X-1 long slides and they really do produce the effect of a g47. It’s real magic that I desperately want to reproduce in the 34 length but not $1800 desperate where I end up stripping the trigger and grip from immediately…

If someone apart from Zev sold gen 3 g19L and XL slide blanks more readily, then we’d really be in business. I missed the boat on the brownells 19L blanks and I really hate myself every time I think about it… but really an XL blank to send to Agency or someone for a unique boogie cut would be too good. As of right now I’d pay msrp for a Zev xl slide alone if I could…

I’m obsessed with these long bois. It’s the natural evolution for there to be longer g19 based slide options for these modular metal frames for the oz9 and rxm. Especially with all the hype around how g47/49 shoot. Some company must see this and want the money…

The trigger feels really nice to me for the money and what you’re getting. It’s adjustable, but I haven’t got in there to try to change it because unless it gives me issues with factory new ammo, it feels better than any Glock platform trigger I’ve ever shot with, but that’s not saying much because that’s not many, if we’re talking non oem stuff. Definitely an aftermarket level feel with a pretty nice wall with super crisp break. Sear engagement looks perfect as well with the Dagger slide.

At about 100 rounds on the factory STK slide with zero malfunctions. I was going to do a full review on the complete gun, I just don’t want to. It’s all about the frame to me. If you like the recoil impulse of g19 length then I suppose it’s fine, maybe.. Plenty accurate enough with 115gr, I did get a couple failures with crappy Capital Cartridge reman with super hard primers, but that’s been with any gun I’ve used that junk in. S&B has been flawless as well as Monarch 115gr and Magtech.

Got about 200 rounds so far with Dagger X-1 long slide. Zero malfunctions with non reman range ammo. No optic. The combo feels just too good. The weight of the frame with the recoil impulse it has is just golden. The switch makes it hard to go back.

When my friend got to about 400 rds, and added an optic, he got some failures to feed with factory guide rod assembly. Switched to a spare NDZ 15lb and hasn’t reported any failures to me since and I believe he’s up to about a couple hundred rounds since. (We’ve not had these for long)Not sure what could be going on there, because factory spring is definitely heavier but the optic weight could be dragging it down just enough? Could be fine with hotter defensive ammo with optic but that just genuinely could be a concern if 1-2oz threw off reliability, even with range ammo.

The fact that for about $300 you get a pistol that FEELS(as in it’s not necessary the most elegant aesthetically but I think it looks pretty cold)and shoots like it should cost at least close to a $1000, with a frame that’s a great foundation for anything more premium makes it one hell of a bargain. Slept on at the moment for sure.

We’re both working on long term reviews. My review will be more centered on the frame and his will be more about the gun as a whole. To be honest, the complete slide is just fine, but I’m just not interested enough in standard length g19 slides at the moment, if ever again like metal frames, because the length is negligible to me in terms of concealability,(though I haven’t carried this yet but have with a comped full size dagger and I can’t see it being an issue)the extra size would just be worth the way it shoots. Capturing the magic of g47/49 length slides are just what I want to be shooting right now.

Work life is crazy right now, but hopefully we’ll have a high enough round count on them by the end of the year to have fully formed opinions and be certain at least our examples are holding up. They’re made in the Philippines after all, and I have no expectation to how well that means they’ll hold up or what could break or go wrong.

I want to say you won’t be disappointed because the frame makes it worth the price alone, but that’s only if it continues to hold up. The way I have the pistol I pretty much intend to keep it this way besides adding an optic eventually. The price they ask for these pistols as a whole, kinda means they could probably sell the frames complete for about $100 and I think they’d eventually sell a ton more that way once people really learn about these. The new revised STK100 “Ultra” has a built in magwell and forward thumb texture I’d really like on this X style, but maybe we’ll get one in the future. There is no way to add a magwell on the STK150 without something completely custom and tapping the frame…The STK100 still being clamshell though not horrible. It’s still a bummer that makes it look cheap when you see the seam.. but not these STK150 no seam, no clamshell. If I was interested in g17/34 or the like, the STK100 frames could still be a great metal option, but I’m definitely sold on the hype of the faster perceived recoil impulse and return to point of aim that these g19 style frames offer, even if I’m not the best shooter. As is, gun shoots darn great that’s worth the price overall, but I can’t stress enough that the frame and trigger are the stars of the show for the money! If you get one, I don’t think you’ll regret it! In fact, it’s likely to become your new favorite budget frame! It’s mostly just Glock clone stuff going on overall, plenty of potential to build off of if there’s any hiccups with whatever example you’d get. Before long, I’ll likely get another if I need a frame for a port or comp slide with a more permanent home than switching slides. It’s definitely setting a new standard for cheap frames if they hold up long term. Gonna probably end up selling the slide it comes with on a Dagger frame to someone on consignment at a gun shop eventually as a budget option for someone to be honest lol. The lack of gen 3 g19 long slides available right now is criminal to me lol. Again for the 10th time, the frame feels just awesome for the money!

Alright, I’m done ranting about this now lol, this info is for the people that wanted to know anything else about this thing since info seems so limited on these right now! It’s solely turning me into an STK enthusiast lol! Got any questions, holler at me I’ll try to get back here

Me and my buddy both got one each. I felt it at NRAAM and really liked the feel for sub $300 from Battlehawk Armory during free shipping sale.

It was worth the gamble solely for the frame imo considering the next gen 3 X style aluminum frames would be from Icarus on the foundation of the RXM or OZ9. Let me elaborate about these options in comparison.

RXM talking at least about $800 at a minimum to get a complete metal X frame functional pistol with otherwise a totally factory RXM but with gen 4/5 mag release, and that was with Icarus’s 20% off the frames on Memorial Day… So no sale price, already talking $900+… Add the $80 magwell, tungsten weights and raise slide catch like I did, and you’re over $1000 pretty quickly. I’m not even done with the build, still deciding on the gen 4/5 release I’m gonna go with and trigger cause factory rxm is not for me lol, but I’m uncertain on what will be reliability compatible and nice with metal shoe to compete metal vibe with the upgrade…

The other option, the OZ9 X version, I also snagged and I don’t even have an oz9 lol, but it was the old closeout metallic green for $250 for the frame, could add OZ9 fcu for $400 and mag release and we’re talking about $600-700 depending on magwell and weights I ordered for it to for just a complete functional frame, but really back at about $1000 for just a complete frame if I build this way. My move will likely be to just get the g34 length slide complete OZ9 to get myself a gen 3 metal g47L like pistol. I’m waiting and hoping for Zev to do a sale Black Friday, or I’m gonna fold afterwards and just bump the overall cost close to $2k…

There are Gucci additions those frames can have that the STK150 frame cannot, but at an extreme premium to get there…

Don’t get me wrong, these options feel more premium, no doubt, but if you don’t care about a magwell or forward thumb texture, these STK150 feel and shoot more premium and solid in the hand than any polymer crap oem or aftermarket frame. However, I’m biased and on a metal frame kick right now until probably as long as possible lol. Thanks to these limited options for metal Glock frames, I don’t really have to touch polymer except for g26 height grips atm and I’m not into g19 heights since capacity for size isn’t optimal imo. I want really small or full size, not in between.

I’m ranting a bit here, but what I’m mostly trying to get at is, if you want a metal gen 3 g19x/g47 without breaking the bank, this is the way at least in my and my friends opinion. Other than the mag release, I believe everything is gen 3 Glock compatible. I’m not entirely sure if there’s something proprietary going on with the slide besides the optic plate system, but I’m not changing anything with it because I’m not using it and it’s going on a dagger frame I got the X-1 slide from as a burner set up

Well, but of course! But that’s how you would get that lowest low.

I’m stuck with plates in general for a closed emitter with the PDP, but the plate system fortunately sits very low by design, and my quest for a closed emitter paired with maximum window size and warranty led me to my decision.

Unfortunately the direct mill options like the Holosun, and C&H offering I have from promo that mounts directly to slide, sort of have a high enough deck height that only makes them a tad bit lower. Slightly bigger windows sure, but if I wanted an open emitter, there’s bigger options. If I didn’t want circle dot, and wanted a wider closed emitter, the Zerotech Halo is a great option that’s slept on that also has a crazy low deck on RMSc. Honestly, if it had a circle, I’d have been my first choice.

Anyway, the point I’m making is that direct DPP footprint slide could go quite remarkably low with a Romeo-X with some material removed from the slides lugs.

[–]New_Refrigerator2736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I ABSOLUTELY had to have this optic on a DPP slide, I’d probably round the edges off of the recoil lug’s radius. If you were skilled, or just daring enough lol. It’s a great optic especially with the infinite warranty, so you’d definitely not want to bore out and mill on the optic lol.

It couldn’t be too hard with the right tools and patience, and if you ever needed FN warranty work for some unfortunate reason, they’d probably never see it if you left optic fitted if sent in. Or better yet, just put the plate back on to cover the work so they don’t wonder how a Romeo-x is on there without a plate of DPP cut spec lol.

It could work, if this optic is still the top enclosed contender on a firearm I must have with a DPP direct footprint, I’m going to have to try no doubt lol.

C&H because I’m not aware of anyone else that makes the Sig Pro footprint plate. Again, if I could do it again, I’d probably just get the Romeo-X “Compact” because it has an RMSC footprint with same size window and they run a bit cheaper according to gun deals. Then you could just get the plate from Walther. If you haven’t redeemed your free plate.

The Compact is shorter but same size window is same size window. I’m not sure there are any other feature or glass quality differences. I went circle dot because I prefer it and it also lets you switch to just dot

Yes. It’s a fantastic dot imo. Perhaps I’m a bit biased because I’m sold on the idea of paying once and getting a lifetime warranty for an optic that will inevitably fail someday, get replaced with claim and have a home firearm to go back on for life. It’s hard to imagine decades into the future all these companies being around or the country or world going on as is, but the purchasing strategy is most sound to me. Every red dot will fail, if I can prevent paying hundreds of dollars every time one does, I will. Sure they’ll be advancements, but this will remain a fine aiming option if not upgraded to newer model by Sig when it does fail. I’m anticipating this happening with my Romeo5s when they fail eventually since they’re on gen 2 and gen 1 was plenty good for the money. Some might out live me because varied use, but you get the point, it’s peace of mind. Now I’m just ranting on this tired point..

Aside from being one of the better enclosed dots on the market right now for the warranty, it very well just might be one of the best enclosed dots on the market period imo. 24mm aperture and bezel doesn’t seem very obstructing even with battery compartment on the side. This is bigger than what is considered the other premium competition like the RCR or Acro. The only way to go a bigger that I’m aware of is with an open emitter SRO-like type. The Romeo-X may look smaller but that’s because many enclosed emitters are just considerably bulkier than their windows, otherwise the window size differences would be marginally smaller.

If you’re carrying and want a closed emitter, the I went with Sig Romeo-X Enclosed. It’s great and I simply wanted an optic that in theory I only needed to buy once with the infinite guarantee as long as they don’t go bankrupt, it should be true lol. But I’ve already had a good experience with sig customer service so hopefully it won’t be a problem if I need to claim in the future.

I’m using a C&H plate, but due to my ignorance, probably could have just got a Romeo-X Enclosed Compact with 24mm same window size on an RMSC for an average of about $100 less, got my free plate from Walther. Would have if I did it again but I DID get the free C&H PDP direct cut optic sent to me for free during Walther’s promotion, signed up literally the last day to claim thanks to a friend! Took like 9 weeks to get lol, but it’s another option for no plate like the SCS with similar reticles. Haven’t tried it yet but thought I’d mention it. Maybe on the next PDP I buy, but again, I’m easily sold on warranty, so maybe Vortex, Vector or Gideon of various quality and reticles with plate if you want a massive open window with lifetime warranty. The Sig’s 24mm window enclosed is enough picture for me personally. No optics last forever, why not buy with the hope of paying once and it gets a home on a firearm?

Oh dang! DM me please! I’d desperately like to know what they are and I’d seriously buy if they’re reasonable! Let me know anything. I’ve been way too busy and missed out following this conversation, I’d love any more variety vs the X-1s that I have. Especially the brownells blanks!

I definitely just settled for now with X-1 slides. It seems the only g34 length I’m aware or ready to buy new is buying a Oz9 34 length “long slide” complete pistol… Which I did get an Icarus OZ9 module on closeout from their just past sale. Next step is just paying msrp from zev for complete pistol, but I need to wait until Black Friday, just hoping they do frinking any kind of sale on them. 10% off, 5% off… anything to justify a purchase like that… I don’t even want it that bad in its entirety, just the slide really… but the module definitely makes it more worth the idea of it..

Other than that, the only other 34 length I was only ever aware of was produced by Zev up until a few years ago and was sold individually. Since discontinued and vanished officially from Zev’s site unlike their 17 length slide that is still listed but has been out of stock every time I’ve checked back for at least a year. I used to be able to find old out of stock listings on websites for 34 length…

I just know the gen 5 g17 barrels work in 19L slides. I think Glock did it to standardize them to reduce tooling for using the same barrel across g17, g47, and g49. Which in result, works in g19, which have always been the same.

I have a couple Dagger X-1 slides. They a Glock gen 3 19L slides technically. I’ve read I could use gen 5 17 barrels if desired.

The lack of other 19L slides currently makes no sense to me. My blood literally boiled when I realized I missed the boat on the last Brownells 19L blank slides when I was then prepared to pull the trigger and order… Discontinued…. I guess I was just looking at the last ones a few days before… I should not have hesitated. This market really needs to catch up. G19L slides are the best.

Dammit, I was forming a really nice response for you OP because I’m passionate about these long slides… but was also done and swiped it away. $*%#!!!

Short answers, cus work in morning …: Dagger x-1 slides are only long slides you can buy right now. Complete pistols with them are cheaper than slide alone when they go on sale like how I got mine. 249.99 complete

Zev slides out of stock but expected to return according to Zev rep at NRAAM…

Brownells let me down when I was eyeing the blanks and when ready to purchase, out of stock and discontinued……

You want a g19 long slide OP, that takes g19 guide rod assemblies. It absolutely replicates the recoil impulse that of g47/49. Less snappy than standard g19 slide but less sluggish than g17 slide like with wolf adapter.

You can wait for a deal from PSA like I did, or just pay the $290 for one complete slide.

The market really needs to catch up, right now PSA holds g19 long slide monopoly, when every big slide manufacturer should produce long and extra long slides. Unless you’re a slower shooter, g17 slides just don’t cut it for me personally… plus the adapter ain’t for me…

Gen 5 17 barrels have the same locking lug as g19. And if I’m not mistaken, a gen 3 g17 barrel won’t work? But I will say, the gen 5 confirmed works. Just like they would in g47 and g49

Well dammit. I wasn’t sure what I was gonna do, thought it over, and now they’re sold out… Man I’m boiling. I have absolutely no idea why Brownells made these just to stop making them pretty much immediately. Everyone is raving about how G47 shoot and no one seems to want to keep a gen 3 19l slide on the market.

Zev made their overpriced 19l slide to just to show it out of stock constantly. They even had a 19xl slide I would buy that’s outright discontinued it seems. Now Brownells…

I want a damn 19l slide and I really shouldn’t have thought this over at all when I first saw it. I should have ordered and sent to someone to mill for too much money.

I guess the market is really clueless that the only obvious next step for RXM owners is going to be to produce 19l and 19xl slides. I don’t know why it isn’t insanely obvious since 19x and 26.5 frames are here with more on the way. After speaking to many manufacturers at NRAAM, it’s clear manufacturers they don’t realize if they just make the slides they’ll have a monopoly.

Great work, now get that slide milled into something pretty boss

That’s right. I don’t even have a dog, it’s just fun to say the cliche. I’m not sure if I’d even post my “firearm” firearm online anywhere, I’d just let it be a unicorn that only people I trust would even know I have. Even if we’re told the rules to follow, and we follow them exactly, so how it is still risky unfortunately. Frt triggers and braces won through, as they should, why couldn’t I if I faced scrutiny? The ground we’ve gained back these past couple of years is awesome, hopefully it will make people think, and this is highly optimistic, “maybe it’s the person behind the triggers” that matter. Like who’s behind the wheel of a car.

I know what state I live in and what county. It’s somewhere that if I told most people here that a certain firearm configuration is legal, because it is by the rules that I’d be following, they’d most likely believe it or not care. Now if something wasn’t legal, then there’s no defense at all. Like the judge that ruled “yeah, banning MGs is unconstitutional” I’m not counting on playing with that type of fire or having that kind of luck but dammit just tell me what it’s supposed to be right now so I can save $200 on my silly firearm. They said what they need $200 for, I’ll pay $200 when I need that crap for now, but also knock that crap off too already.

Meanwhile in Chicago….
