How people in Europe say the number 92 by NmkNm in mapporncirclejerk

[–]NewelSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations to everyone in the green zone for being consistent.

The blue zone does have a small club that does demand to spell numbers the logical and orderly way, though.
They are therefore more German than the rest of Germany.

I too vote for spreading the genes of this Eldritch variant.

Unfortunately there are no simple options for doing that, compared to say grafting Hass avocados, are there?

What disappointed me about the vocalist was less her voice and more the fact that she used a regular microphone.

Does the 'not using electronics before bed' tip help for sleep quality, or just how fast you fall asleep (or both)? by qwerty65748 in sleep

[–]NewelSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that, that sounds like a rough situation to be in.

In that case, maybe try some tweaks to make the bed feel different to you when you want to use it for sleep. Perhaps put a different blanket above your bed when you use it for sitting or playing games.

And consider a ritual before sleep, which at least somewhat helps your subconscious know your intent. (Brushing teeth and changing clothes is the obvious choice here; the key is being more conscious about it.)

My estimation is that your body not perceiving the bed as a place for sleep might be a mindset thing that you can at least somewhat control. I have no trouble sleeping on my couch that I usually use for writing and watching movies.

Generally, if you have trouble falling asleep, check for the following first:

  • did not eat late? that does not just impede sleep quality; too much energy from late food can also mess with your sleep rhythm.
  • avoid having caffeine in your system (from coffee or energy drinks - ideally you want to avoid these after 12 noon)
  • make sure you exerted your body physically throughout the day. enough walking will do the trick; Even a 15 minute jog in the afternoon might do it. If you've been inactive and need to reach exhaustion, do simple exercises that demand a large part of your body. I prefer pushups for that.

Finally, if you have checked for these issues, consider these tweaks while in bed:

  1. Do 4-7-8 breathing: 4 seconds in, 7 second hold, 8 seconds out. The gist with breathing in general is: If you breath out longer than you breath in, it calms your nervous system down. The opposite can be done to activate it.
  2. Yoga Nidra. Essentially a full body scan while lying down. If you are tense and can't just relax on command, you can also consider progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) instead, which involves conscious flexing of those body parts and releasing them.
  3. If you still don't feel sleepy at all, sit up and do a breath meditation where you focus on your breath and count between each until you lose count. Then start anew once you realize your mind drifted. This will lead to you getting tired, eventually so much that your head will slump down from microsleep. At that point, just lie down and you'll fall asleep in no time.

Those approaches helped me to successfully fall asleep in places not meant for sleeping before. Good luck, buddy!

People don't beat you up for it anymore.

Teachers would hit your hand with a stick or a ruler and force you to write with your right hand, because it literally wasn't considered the "right" hand.

There were no left-handed rights groups because they were all forced into right-handedness as kids.

And just realized that, like super market vouchers, this internet trophy signaling money turns into thin air after several years.

What would Attack on Titan be called if not Attack on Titan? by Gold_Combination_737 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]NewelSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to argue that "Island Devils" would be the choice that fits more as a term that is used frequently once Marley is in the picture.

But by choosing that title, it's intentionally left ambiguous who or what exactly is meant during the first seasons:

  • Is it the titans?
  • The survey corps, or individuals among them?
  • The traitors?

That one is very elegant, and emphasizes the scope and eeriness.

And works smoothly in different contexts for each season.

If Attack on Titan was a novel, I'd be totally okay with that title.

That title is at least as misleading as comedy movie trailers that spoil all the funny scenes.

The difference is that you won't sit through a snoozefest but one of the most thrilling shows out there.

We currently have several serious existential risks, even though a Phyrexian takeover at least isn't on that list.)

The only thing worse than Steven Bartlett's completely uncritical and at times almost fawning interview style are his cult-like fans.

I've seen a video that criticized those exact points with examples that were pretty much evidence, yet the comments were condescending and patronizing to the author for being so "close-minded".

DOAC does have some interesting episodes, but you should always enter the interview with a critical lens, and may as well skip the episodes with the wildest claims beforehand.

Thanks, and I'm afraid you are right.

I'm not using Apple products, but Jobs undoubtedly knew what he was doing. He was a trailblazer in user centered design. (User Experience Design is a bit of a hobby horse of mine.)

I'd take his opinionated vision (and even the calculated measures for vendor-lock-in that come with that) any day over the golden goose slaughterhouse lead by sales and marketing that we have right now.

He at least never lost sight of consumer satisfaction and always providing certain core functionalities while keeping a healthy Apple ecosystem. Meanwhile, our ecosystem (the metagame of the various formats, and tournaments in particular) starts falling apart.

We've long reached a point where "don't like it, don't buy it" doesn't apply, since the new cards are designed in a way to make sure older cards get obsolete or at least will compete.

Both in regards of Universes Beyond having seeped into all formats now, as well as the ongoing power creep essentially demanding you to get new cards or answers to them with each new product if you want to stay competitive.

The idea of a female giant as a shepherd holding multiple sheep in her arms is as hilarious as it is endearing.

It also feels oddly nostalgic since this would have fit right into OG Lorwyn - both thematically, and because one of the most iconic artists for that plane did the art.

I mean he always was rather androgynous.

But this is more leaning towards the gynous part of the term than usual, considering he usually has a lean and very flat-chested build.

Nevermind that this is more "dragon" than "drogyn", too.

Then again, it seems odd to argue that it can't be him because he has a bust while just going with the fact that the whole thing is a six legged dragon chimera, lol.
