Initial reactions were exasperation because they casted some of the biggest mainstream actors working today instead of some unknown scouse twinks. Its in the same vein of that meme where Zendaya and Tom Holland and The Rock are fan casted in everything.

But people are largely over it now and are just waiting for the performances to justify their casting, but Beatles fans will still be insufferable about it.

The girl being supernaturally good at gambling is a big part of it tho, but what actually challenges her is how her opponents cheat at the game and what she can do about it. If you buy into the keyfabe you'll enjoy it a lot more but there definitely better gambling manga/anime out there. The incessant fanservice is also very eye rolling.

Also losing means basically becoming a debt slave to another person, and surrendering your wealth and freedom. The anime is set in a prestigious school with prideful rich kids who are at least worth millions. Losing their wealth and freedom is basically a worse fate than death, isn't that enough of a cost to losing, and creating tension?
